Should Minkah be the DC?

Minkah has a higher football IQ than the entire staff together. Unfortunately his skills are desperately needed on the field.

While there is historic precedent for a player / HC (Johnny 'Blood' McNally - Pirates 37-39), the league has since evolved into the scoring machine (driver of gambling) that it is today. Amusing Johnny Blood legend. Johnny was MIA for a home game. The Chief located him at the Bears game in Chicago. Johnny told the Chief "it was a better game".

Minkah is a good idea though. I'll go a step further. Pick the top 15 or so football minds on this board. Way better staff than the clown car that occupies our sideline.

I just was reading about many of the top coaches and coordinators in the league listening a lot to their top players, whether it be the QB on offense or top defensive players.

They see things out there sure why not. Unless it is Emmitt Smith giving the viewpoint. Then I might second guess it...

I thought he was asking about the ping-pong table being put back into the locker room when I saw this clip the first time. Props to Fitz.
I think it is time to put the ping back into pong. It can help with catch coordination and paddle grip ability for a WR to hold onto a football. When the ball is in the air it helps with a 50/50 ball . They either see it or miss it. Simultaneously it helps the wrist not go limp. As the Steelers WRs can look limp wristed at any given moment, obviously.

It can help Kenny with his accuracy when attempting those corner table throws. We can place an extra ball on the table signifying a CB in close proximity. You know the normal. Then when Kenny tries to squeeze it in we can compare him to whatever ping pong specialist performed well that week. Followed by a list of all ping pong greats and where Kenny ranks in comparison.

He is no Fan Zhendong I'll tell you that.

Steeler coordinators are below the line, if you will, obviously, but the seats are still filled and merchandise still sold.
Coordinators are tasked with implementing the philosophy of the HC, unless they are given free reign. Does ANYTHING in Tomlin‘s past make you truly believe that he is giving free reign to those coordinators?

The Minkah trade is going to go down as one of the top trades in Steeler history. Right up there with the Bettis trade.
Meh.....I don't think it is anywhere close to Bettis' trade. Just my take.

Players have always communicated with coaches. The unique part of this is his passion or frustration was showing.

I think the players know the hand they are being dealt and in this case, Fitz. Was trying to better it. On the field he can’t do much about the play called, on the sideline he was being vocal and contributing emotionally as well. He is vested ion this team full in and definitely has the ability to speak up.

Salute the nation

Minkah obviously has situational awareness that is greater than the Steelers' staff.

That an injured player has better insight, in the moment, than a paid professional team of coaches clarifies the real problem.

This is very similar to Ben drawing up sandlot plays. The inflexible coaching style, with few in game adjustments, needs upgrading to modern NFL strategic decisions, in the moment. The players, naturally able to react to changing conditions, are way ahead of the coaches.

It's most surprising that this inflexibility has not been brought up more by former players; its kinda obvious that this resides with Tomlin. Just watch the replay with Minkah and Austin; Tomlin was deeply involved at the crucial moment and would have been ok with Austin call before Minkah erupted.

This is a really easy fix, for those willing to adapt.

Yeah I just don't think either coordinator is all that good. It will be interesting to see how well they do in arguably what is shaping up to be the most important game of the year for the Steelers.

I think Shades made the original call, Austin relayed it and then Minkah got upset. So Tomlin had to hear, agree and then ok Austin to change the call.

That is what it looked like to me.

I wish Minkah had worn a headset the past couple games while injured.

Yes, make him DC now. Possible promotion to HC next season.
