After seeing Dirty Red’s lack of speed and making too many tackles away from the line of scrimmage, and Bostic missing a tackle that lead to a long run and what looked allowing a rookie tight end to beat him for a touchdown, my short answer is yes.

Timmins knows the defense. He might only be 70% the player he used to be. Okay, make him a two down run defender. Our middle is run defense is suspect for both run and pass defense. If he’s a shot player, we have nothing to lose. Just cut someone with no chance to make the practice squad and give #94 a try out.

I disagree as even though I loved Timmons it was at a time he was actually good. I defended him in many cases but alas,....... age has caught up to him so I would say a "SOLID" pass weather they used him properly or not. You say he may be 70% of what he use to be well that 70% just won't cut it in my opinion. sorry coach but this is a fail.

I watched the game too Coach. I know the exact play you are talking about. But Bostic came back I believe on that drive to slam Ajiya for a 3 yard loss. Everyone misses tackles. Give the guy a ****** chance. Metakavich had several solid plays too. Not everyone is all pro. Sometimes solid is good enough. If Timmons is still on the street there is a reason.

I go on what I see.

Bostic had a chance last week and I saw a blown tackle that lead to a lot yards and a coverage gaffe that lead to an easy touchdown pass. Extrapolate that over a full game and you've got 4 key mistakes. If he was a rookie, I’d judge him on flashing potential. He’s a veteran. Bostic has been on quite a few teams, and has had injury issues. If he is the best we have, it’s not good enough.

We must have been watching different game because Matakevich in my opinion didn't exactly do well. He’s short and slow lacking change of direction ability. Okay, he’s smart enough to get in on his share of plays, but they are too far past the line of scrimmage for my linking as a full time starter.

So why not see how much Timmons has left? To find out, it will only cost one camp roster spot, a player who’s going to be cut anyway. We have something to gain by giving this a shot and zero to lose.

Iron,

Living in the Miami market I sometimes watched Dolphins games when the Steelers were not playing. Timmons can't cover anyone anymore, but he's still a physical man who can tackle familiar with the Steelers. The Dolphins released him due to his cap number, and skipping out on a game. They did not have a better player behind him.

Ability wise, the player I saw last year is better than Bostic or Dirty Red as the other ILB in a 3-4. If we are talking nickel, maybe Fort is our best option. Edmunds, so I heard will be give a chance to be the dime Linebacker.

I'm not going to **** on a guy after 1 preseason game. Decastro got blown the hell up at least once as well.

The Timmons ship has sailed. Let him come back and retire as a Stiller.

Let Bostic settle in, learn the D, build some rapport with the other guys on 'D" ... that's what preseason is for. Bostic > Dirty Red ... not a contest.

It was his first game in a Steeler uniform on a Steeler defense...you judging a body of work after 25 or so snaps? He had some splash plays and yes he missed a tackle. Burnett did too.....guess Colbert struck out on that FA signing and Morgan should be cut/replaced right now.

Typical misinformed knee jerk reaction.

BTW, if Timmons was a better player, he would already be signed. It’s reported he has lost A LOT of his speed and doesn’t have the range to play side to side. Bowman on the other hand would be an improvement, but his $ is too high. He’s waiting for an injury to occur.

It is what Coach and many others on here do.

Still NOT buying coach. Timmon's is done and will not be on anything STEELERS (unless to retire). His speed isn't there and you need that to even be in position to make the tackle. If the RB were to run dfirectly at him then maybe he would look good but what's the odds of that happening every down. SORRY no money no purchase no problem.

Agree, that ship has sailed.

Hey Coach, do you Timmons back on the team so you can finally say he was a bust and a waste of a first round draft pick? ...Again...

the only reason I bring Timmons back now is if someone goes down for several weeks and we need a vet in a pinch. Otherwise, we should be done re-treading.

Missing a tackle as a 4th year pro at ILB doesn't impress me Ike. But it wasn't only that, there was also a coverage mistake that lead to an easy touchdown pass. Two major red flags in 25 snaps. While you are right its only one game, my counter is both the Patriots and the Bears cut Bostic. The Colts who are bad on Defense didn't want to retain his services either. Not this guy is the best we have?

Colbert picked him up for cheap.

If Timmons lost some speed and rage, he still might be faster than Dirty Red, plus he knows the defense, something Bostic apparently does not. I saw Timmons play last year, did you? He's still a good tackler. I think Timmons is better than some of the LB's the Steelers will be cutting, so on that basis, if he's willing to play for the veteran minimum, why not give him a chance?

Fans have anemic memories. The Steelers were gutted vs. the run in the last six games, and killed by it in the playoffs. NFL coaches know where to attack. Our offense will need to put up points, otherwise teams will attack our soft and slow middle via the run.

Although they finished the 2017 season ranked 10th in rushing yards allowed, the Steelers were 28th in yards per carry. What truly is concerning is how the run defense performed over the last six games (including the playoff loss to Jacksonville), after losing Ryan Shazier to injury. The 133.5 yards per game allowed during that stretch would have the Steelers ranked 31st in the NFL, while their 5.1 yards per carry would rank dead last.

??? I loved the Timmons pick. You have me confused with someone else. For 2-3 years, you could argue he was the best player on our defense. I do believe Timmons is a top 50 all time Steeler as well.

In 14 games played last year, Timmons had 84 tackles and 3 passes defensed. The Dolphins played him outside in their 4-3 base. You need a bit more speed as a 4-3 OLB. But inside in our 3-4 as a 2 down player, I think he'd do better.

The only way to see if he's better than Bostic or Dirty Red is to sign him for one year at NFL min. Then we can find out.

Name 50 better.

You don't; know what your talking about

Timmons did the following during his tenure as a Steeler

100+ tackles 8 times
35.5 sacks
12 interceptions
13 forced fumbles
Played in a pro bowl

I'll start to laugh in your list once you get into the 40's. Now go!

no, you made the claim you go ahead with your 50.

I think you just want to see my list because you'll have trouble coming up with 50 players. I have mine ready to go, and can PM it to a 3rd party in advance for proof.

You move. You laughed, I called you out based on that. No go!

I have at least 7 linebackers alone ahead of him. I laughed at your dumbass. I do it daily when I read your garbage.

Yet your too afraid to list your own top 50, because you know I can easily show Timmins belongs. Okay, I get it. Nice duck.
