The reality is that HCMT can't do much for the offense as many have said. You simply cannot install a new offensive scheme in the middle of the season.
HCMT needs to admit that he isn't the smartest man in the room in ANY facet of this team and let the coaches HE hired call the plays. If we miraculously get better (especially on defense) then we are happy. If not, you can get new/more help this off-season. IF HCMT must interject in the real-time play calls, he disrupts the team, chemistry, timing and understanding. This causes us to have too many on the field (check), people lined up wrong (check), and a failure of execution (check). HCMT's real-time meddling has lead to all of these things happening in games. We have the most unplanned time-outs of any team in the league because of this.
We look unprepared and unorganized because we practice all freakin' week, then, on game day, have some random calls coming from HCMT screwing everything up. Granted, once in a while it works out but mostly, it just causes confusion.
Our offense only works when we do the opposite of what the play design calls for. Why? Because everyone at home as well as the defense which prepared for us, knows the play, the ignorant progression, where the blocking is coming from, etc. This makes an improbable outcome exceptional. Up-tempo and 2-minute offenses worked with BB and to some degree 4QK because it forced the defense to speed up their practiced recognition of this chickenshit scheme...which, in some cases, made it successful. HCMT calling plays (usually after a time-out) gives the defense plenty of time to recognize our 'set' and most likely our intent. This puts our players at a disadvantage.
HCMT either cannot hire great coaching assistants OR they refuse to work within a hierarchy which they know the HC will be calling the plays. Lebeau resigned because of it, Butler retired because of it, Arians left, Haley was fired for Fichtner, who was not-renewed for Canada, Munchak left, Klemm quit mid-season, Sarrett left...We get the picture.
Leaders often see their followers "take on" their leadership style. This is why Minkah called out that some players "expect" to just go out there and win...without the benefit of hard work. Celebrating routine expectations should never be ok. This is who we are now. When we don't meet those expectations, we are dumbfounded, but not humbled.
We need to be humbled. Humility is a motivator. Hubris is a killer.
