Steelers offense

We love their passion,............... Knee jerk reaction............................ we need to get our mojo back...............

Perfect microphone answers from a head coach

Typical coach speak for offensive offense.

Nothing will happen in-season, O'Canada will be here through the durration of the season.

Just incredible - from the article you posted.

“We’re not going to have knee-jerk reactions in terms of trying to make wholesale changes in an effort to change that outcome, but we do acknowledge two is a pattern,” Tomlin said. “We’ve had two outings that are not up to snuff in that regard. It has our attention as we’re preparing for the next one. We’re all in this thing together — we’re not assigning blame for anyone. Obviously, it starts with coaching — we’ve got to coach better.”

Okay, fine - if we're not going to make wholesale changes, then coach better. It's not rocket science.

And that is why sites like PFF fail… two people can look at the same tape and see different things… without knowing the intricacies of the play design, we are just guessing…
Which is another reason for fans not to get to locked in on Kenny. There is a lot at play here. Inadequate time to throw, ****** run blocking, ****** play calling. Unproven receivers, number 1 or 2 WR hurt depending how you view DJ.

His inaccuracies and happy feet need to improve. But will this team help that improvement or hinder it...

He was a late bloomer in college perhaps his third year under a different coordinator will be the golden ticket for his improved development.

Just too many unknowns.

First, one is an accident, two is a coincidence and three is a pattern. But anyways. If I read between the lines if Canada doesn't shape up I would assume someone else takes over play calling duties. Hopefully, Tomlin. That way he has no one to blame but himself. But likely it ends up being Sullivan as he has play calling experience.

I realize the article is somewhat of a flash article but it does sho a lot of reality as to Coach Tomlin and his lip service. I don’t expect him to open up and give us the full truth, like any other NFL coach you get coach speak. Coach Tomlin is a master at it but my biggest concern is that nothing ever happens.

I was REAL excited about this season and had very high hopes……. I still do and just would like to see some sort of adjustment to the team in regards of the poor coaching along the way.

When a reporter asks Canada how the offense can get it's mojo back like Tomlin said in his presser, and the response is essentially, You tell me...
That short bus captain is incredibly arrogant and really thinks he is that much better than everyone else. It just blows my mind.

And after 17 years Tomlin admits he needs to coach better.

So are you saying, in another 17 years he will admit to needing to HIRE better ?

You should have given him a joy ride in the luxury S10 in the preseason...to fire him up.

He wouldn’t have survived———- he’s a LOW RISK taker, and in the LUXURY S10, you’ve got to be willing to give her it all.

Pickett is getting a lot of blame, and while some of his decisions have been questionable, he is getting set up to fail 90% of the time.

And that's not just a made up number, that's a legit 90%. On another steelers site, they broke down the steelers offense, and it's not pretty. 90% of the time they are under center, it's a fun play. 83% of the time they are in shotgun, it's a pass play.

The defense doesn't need to steal signs to play against us, just look at the formation. That's as bad as it gets. No wonder Pickett doesn't trust the OL, he knows the defense knows the play call.

Here is tge thing about this O… the issues that are most perplexing have predated Canada… so you can certainly blast him for some of tge designs and some of the playcalls and you can blast Pickett for some of the reads and harris for some of the runs…

Tomlin and Arians ran Whiz’s offense that first year, but that was when we really started to move away from a traditional Fullback… hell we cut John Kuhn, (who was nominated for the HOF last week) and would have cut Dan Krieder had the Rooneys not stepped in… save for a brief part of the Todd Haley era with rosie nix, true fullbacks were rarely used since then..

That also marked the virtual end of play action and screens for us… and suddenly safe bubble screens started showing up more… and slants and short crosses faded out too… in the second year of Fitchner, all the deep middle stuff died off… leaving us with the perimeter crapfest we have now..

And complaints that we advertise what we are running by over specific formations and personnel groups date back to arians… its just gotten worse and worse…

I mean the second play in this season was a play to Calvin Austin that they basically telegraphed from the preseason…

I have maintained that micromanaging Tomlin has pushed this style of offense because he wants a slow strike, time-eating offense… it just doesn’t work like he thinks it would…

This is the problem. It is more than two. A lot more than two.

This is largely the same offense that started 11-0 in 2020 and Tomlin just cannot seem to let it go, despite opponents adjusting to it by the end of that season and the team being among the league's worst offensively in the three years since.

Fixing systemic issues in a timely manner is not exactly a Tomlin strong point. The OL struggled under him for years until they hired Mike Munchack and struggled again once Munchack left, though the wheels seemed to fall off Pouncey and Decastro a bit sooner than expected.

Fans had their issues with Haley and Arians, but at least they were legitimate NFL OCs who had coordinated in Superbowls and had been or would become head coaches in the league.

Fichtner and Canada seem like coaches who maxed out as positional coaches at the NFL level, but Tomlin saw something in them and might still with Canada.

Even if they fired Canada, I don’t see where the offense improves. They’ll promote Sullivan who will really have no choice but to run the same offense. Maybe the situational play calls improve, and that may help, but all in all there’s just too many jacked up parts to fix in season or over a bye week.
I read somewhere that in shotgun the Steelers throw like 80 something % of the time. When Pickett is under center they run like 70 plus % of the time. Teams simply know what we are doing. We had one play action pass play against the Browns. Teams just know what we are doing. We easily could mix stuff up...whether it is Canada or Sullivan. If by the bye week we don't see substantial improvement I don't know how you hold onto Canada. Of course since Art ran the team they have become very tight we their pennies.

Yes it is. And I'd also like to have a dollar for every time I've heard "we acknowledge" in a presser. Well, if you acknowledge it, quit doing it altogether or fix it so it's not a problem. I think that's probably my biggest gripe with this team. They admit to certain problems, and just keep doing the same thing over and over.

I could be wrong but I think its under center they run 90% of the time… and for the record the 70+ yard td pass Pickett was under center…

I acknowledge that Tomlin is a mediocre coach. I acknowledge that Dione Sanders adorns himself just like Tomlin. Hat, shades, cross. Sanders will be HC of the Cowboys some day.

I said this last week. KP seems to have an anchor on him for some reason. I don't know if they don't want him to run, roll out, scramble, etc. They had no designed run plays until the end of the first game which was a dumb play and then the even worse run play on 3rd and 1 in the Clowns game. He's not rolling out or moving around which is bizarre since he is good at it. I think it is a coaching thing and he needs to get that out of his head and play more natural and Canaduh has to allow him and even plan for him to move around.

About Najee, I have been a big fan and still think he can be a beast but damn, it looks like he lost a step this year if that's possible. I don't know how he was training but he looks slower even though he is averaging more YPC this year than Warren but on a small sample size. He needs to do maybe lose 10 pounds or so like Bell did but Bell had some pounds to lose whereas Najee has very little body fat. I don't know if he can gain any speed or quickness at this point.
Pickett has a lot of anchors right now starting with his happy feet and lack of accuracy. Factor in Matt Canada being overmatch at OC, Mike Tomlin being scared to turn the ball over the wanting to win defensive battles, an offensive line who can't block, the slowest starting RB in the NFL, and wide receivers and tight ends who have a lot of potential but lack the production to match.

Please be true… that would end hilariously
