Steelers release Mason Cole

So Slash we have had this discussion so many times in the past. This really shows how poorly this team is mismanaged. Kicking dumb salaries down the road to build paper thin house of cards teams. This team is on the books for about 3 million in QB room and is a measly 9 million under. I bet the Chiefs have at least that much. Honestly it's criminal.
I think they have been kicking less down the road lately but I hear you. I think the two I mentioned will be cuts as well.

But yeah I prefer a little more space too, just a fine line of in the process being competitive.

I'd wager Spencer Anderson would've been a better option than Cole was
Hard to not be able to jump over the hot garbage hurdle that Cole was

And bout time Steelers!!!

an obvious move that needed to happen

Don't answer the phone this week Peterson or Robinson, just sayin'

I really do doubt they cut Peterson... the dudeplayed almost 100% of the defensive snaps last season... by far the highest on the team... since they ate already thin at CB, they probably retain him

Maybe they are not the same old Steelers..... usually they would have kept Cole until after they signed or drafted the replacement

Embarrassing. A franchise Qb takes up close to a 15 percent of a cap. The Steelers don't have one and are still up against it. What happens when you always want to "compete". But hey never a losing season. Is there a trophy for that?
I'm guessing KC doesn't have 5 players on defense making $98 million. Wtf? Steelers should never allow a TD with that payroll.

Teams planned for this season to be at 245 million and it actually came in at 255 million... so basically everyone got a free 10 mil
The Steelers cut the Centre the Backup QB abd the Punter and are 9 million under with same free 10 million. And compared the results have been a joke.

i doubt it too, but if it rings it certainly isn't anything good as overpaid dead weight is geting cut recently

why fix mistakes has been the mantra of the Tomlin/Colbert era...just hoping Khan has some new tricks up his sleeve in regards to roster construction and wants to build something worth while

They signed an average g/c and asked him to do stuff that prime pouncey could barely do... and he was so focused on getting off the snap to his blocks that he would botch a snap or two, then focus on the snaps and miss blocks...

I blame scheme more than the player... you cant expect Vinnie testaverde to run the Lamar Jackson offense... you dont ask Hines ward to run Mike wallaces speed routes and expect the safeties to back off... sometimes fitting the plays into the strengths and weaknesses of the players has to happen... Cole wasnt going to chip a guy then get two gaps over to make a block... And as for a backup.. we have Herbig on the roster already... we dont need overredundancy

Did the scheme change from year 1 to 2 when he went from serviceable to blowing chunks?

I dunno if I can buy this used car. I think it is leaking oil, it may need a new paint job, the drums are rusting, the interior has a few spots on the upholstery, the radio only works half the time.

😁

You are not factoring in tge UFA status of both teams...
the Steelers have to add a backup QB, a punter, resign the third ILB, fill the Center position. And probably add a tackle... and of course get a starting CB

The chiefs top six UFAs are expected to get a collective 70 million dollars... the steelers will patch their holes for under 20 million.. the Steelers are likely in a better overall cap position...

Cole wasnt horrible, but he didnt fit what they wanted.. kind of like when they tried Sean Mehan ...
Ahhh.....his habit of rolling the football back to our QBs when they were in shotgun formation wouldn't fit what anyone wanted. 🥴

We signed Watt and Fitzpatrick to ....at the time the highest contacts at their position. It is what it is. Unfortunately we ran an offense that limited our QB....or our QB limited our offense. And our D is a run of the mill D with ONE star player. With a scheme that has been proven over the last decade simply sucks.

restructure Peterson and if the intent is to sign Boyd then cut Robinson

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on Minkah. Returning Minka to his FS role and allowing him to create havoc on D, makes his contract on point. Relegating him to a LB support roll does not get you your money’s worth.

That was NOT the question

No it was a statement by me and Tomlin is stupid for running it. He should honestly stay out of defense and they should get a top notch DC.

But with that not going to be the case, then we will get a bunch more of the same.

Keep Peterson. The remaining cuts s/b Ogunjobi (saving $6.9M), Robinson (saving $10.0M) and Nate Herbig (saving $4.0M). That's another $21M for the cap. I don't even remember Herbig getting on the field.

Together Watt and Fitzpatrick are a Franchise QB price. Where is the rest going?

Why peterson? He can't play outside due to speed, he can't play Nickel due to lack of tackling, he is only a glorified back-up FS/CB at this point of his career.
