Steelers release Mason Cole

Keep Peterson. The remaining cuts s/b Ogunjobi (saving $6.9M), Robinson (saving $10.0M) and Nate Herbig (saving $4.0M). That's another $21M for the cap. I don't even remember Herbig getting on the field.
over ruled, Herbig MUST stay...he has a brother on the team and we all know that is ALL that matters in roster construction
The team with the most brothers gets the non-losing season
We have standards around here
Lets get those Davis boys back here stat
Maybe Derrick too, they were never used properly

At this point the word "havoc" and Minka should never be put in the same sentence together. Sorry.

Another example of Tomlin’s D scheming a player out of their strengths.

I think the coaches have shown they are getting things wrong. Dotson was played wrong, a few corners are playing well elsewhere. TJ was played wrong. For me it seems they aren't evaluating, putting these players in the best position to succeed. They know Minkah is multi position capable and I think they like using him to cover deficiencies. Just not convinced that is the best way to use him.

I will say as I said elsewhere their defensive results within the last 5 playoff games are showing a trend for bad decision making and or bad schematics.

Something is rotten in Denmark, I think that is a fair assessment.

I know you are talking defense, BUT ———— Jones is another good example of bad decision on where to play players..

1) Minkah, as previously pointed out, isn't playing his "natural" free safety position because he needs to help every other deficient secondary position.
2) Where is his Chris Hope / Ryan Clark to help him?

We're wasting Minkah because we're asking him to be something he's never been, and because our HC and DC are retards that couldn't scheme a successful trip to the bathroom.
And please spare me "good players find a way and can learn new things, blah blah blah" nonsense.
How good would Troy have been playing Left Tackle?
How good would Ben have been playing Right Cornerback?
I mean, it's almost like taking your number 1 LT pick and putting him at RT for........................reasons.

EXCELLENT POST & thanks for all your great ones along the way.

I’ve been preaching about this coaching staff scheming players out of their strengths. Minka is definately one, but TJ WATT is also another major one. That 2DL set allows multiple blockers on TJ. If there was a 3rd DL, it would hold that OL more accountable. It would also allow PITT to call different blitz packages with some surprise, instead of everybody and their uncle….. knows TJ is coming on 3rd down.

We are good at that playing players in the wrong position or running schemes that clearly don't fit the players. On the former, there are so many examples. One very recent example goes by the name of Dotson. I wonder if we could have used a good guard playing on his natural side. Hmmmm.

At least Khan is moving faster to cut some of the dead weight but even so it will take at least two years to reload and even then we will be no better than 6th in the AFC.

Is that based on retaining Shades or even if a different coaching system was brought in ?

I don't get all of the Herbig hate; I thought he played well when called upon. In fact, that may have been part of the Steelers' thinking when Cole was released -- maybe Herbig is in for a bigger role.

I think he allowed them to move on from cole without worrying about having to make a move there.

But the Steelers still have zero C with NFL experience on the roster, and zero C with C as their primary position. Seems like FA then draft need very early.

Not the Steelers way not to have experience at a position. We will see a C in free agency. Book it.

Daniels and Herbig have both played center in the NFL. Granted, it isn't much, and in Daniels' case it was 5 years ago, but it's experience nonetheless.

I hope we get a good one. A real meat and potatoes guy.
