Hey Idioteque - I open this thread to read about any latest Archer news. Not really interested in reading your non football related rants. Seems as if you aren't starting a ***** fight, then you are easily baited into one. You also, lately, seem to immediatly reply to any positive Archer post with a high impact, contrarian opinion? You seem like a smart, knowledgeabe football guy that has let this get too deep under your skin. Things seem to be getting kindof exciting in camp with positive news about our new draft picks coming out each day. Perhaps you could lend some positive analysis to the goings on here. I realize that you can just tell me to **** off, but thought that I'd make an attempt to get a good poster find his way.

Tunch Ilkin was the guest just now on the live training camp video report (on the official site). He was simply giddy about what he saw from Dri Archer thus far. Said Archer has been fielding punts "like a center fielder catching fly balls." Soft, soft hands. Labriola chimed in that Archer has been catching everything clean thus far, not juggling the ball, showing a lot of confidence. Of course, now they'll want to see him do it in pre-season games. If he holds up, he'll be the punt and kick returner for sure heading into the season. Ilkin said the Steelers will be moving Archer all around on offense trying to get the ball in his hands. Ilkin: "I know, and you (Labriola) know, any time he touches the ball he can take it to the house."

I hope the Golden Flash keeps developing at this pace, he may very well turn into the difference-maker, splash playmaker some people around here have been hoping for.

What is the deal with TMC? Did I miss something?
A couple of guys, I think it was Idioteque and Vader, threw some jabs his way regarding his less-than-optimistic evaluation of Archer, so TMC got upset and stormed off into the sunset.

Nice picture, thank you. I'm looking forward to his play of making everyone (except timmons) look like slow motion.

Salute the nation

It was neither of those two guys. They both agreed with TMC's evaluation of Archer.

Wow you guys are really latching hard to the nuts of a grown man who got upset and quit this board because people disagreed with him. I don't care how knowledgeable he is if his vaginal secretions are left all over the threads he posts in

What you don't get is that he was like the tough guy in prison. Everyone was always taking shots at him or his evaluations etc...

Maybe he didn't handle it well. Doesn't change the fact he was normally the voice of reason, and treated others with respect if he agreed with them or not. That is what is missing.

I would disagree 100%. TMC had his opinions and sometimes I agreed but when I did not (in the case of Archer) holy hell did he toss up the holier than thou, I am right you are wrong, and try to jam his opinion down your throat. You can look back I said Archer I hope turns into a Sproles type of player and that is his ceiling. His floor I agreed with him and it could be Rainey. My argument was 12% of your third round picks become starters, not every day starters, just starting experience so taking Archer in the VERY late third was not a huge gamble. And the fact that it was between Bryant and Archer and we still got Bryant in the 4th makes the pick all that much better. It will be a few years before we know but the fact some people have sworn off this kid like he has no chance is just assinine to me.

I couldn't keep up with this giant thread. However, I think TMC was disappointed that CB wasn't addressed and we instead reached for an really small guy. I hope he ends up being wrong about it all as I'm sure he does also.

That is fine if you are upset we didn't draft a CB in the top three rounds but that's no reason to write off Archer as a contributor and I don't know how anyone can say he's a reach. There's a reason why we went fron picking Bryant to Archer so who knows maybe we got wind that someone else was going to take him if we didn't.

Who knew Communists could be so funny?

TMC is quite knowledgeable when it comes to evaluating specific players. He put a helluva lot of work into watching tape of prospects and assimilating information on them. But he could get quite nutty when it came to putting himself in the shoes of Kevin Colbert. He really thought it was a feasible course of action to tank the rest of the season when we fell to 5-8 last year. Like you could just tell Tomlin to bench Ben and lose games on purpose. Like they would just meekly agree to do that (in reality they would probably team up to choke you until you admitted that it was all a big joke). Like the Rooneys would be fine with that happening. That's what happens when you let the draft take over your life...you lose all perspective, forgetting that there is more to that job than plucking "hidden gems" from the draft and ordering the team to go into Operation Shutdown as soon as you lose your 4th game of the year.

The difference is if Archer is able to do some of things he is doing in practice in games, if he is able to become a player for us TMC will say I was wrong on this one guys. Others will never. Thats if he comes back at all.

His coaches and team are saying he is a player, will be interesting to see him in games and hear how he does against the Bills in those joint practices next week.

For the record if he doesnt pan out I will say my bad I also I had it wrong.

The problem I've got with someone coming out and going "oh, I was wrong" is that we've all spent 2524 posts now discussing this, and the second they are proven wrong, they'll just say "oops" but the very next ******* year, it will be the same ******* thing, but with some other player. There is a reason I don't try to predict who the Steelers will take, way back I wanted Kearse and we took some douchenozzle WR named Edwards. I had followed all the draft talk and was sure we'd get Kearse. I was pissed, and it colored a lot of my viewing of Steeler football for a while. That being said, I'm not insane, and I don't enjoy watching a team and dwelling on the guy we didn't get, so I put all my hopes behind Edwards, and he did have one pretty good season. Then, well, he sucked. It happens, and I've come to realize it's going to happen every year most times, there will be a guy that's selected, and even if all the gurus say he's the real deal, he might suck. The thing is, there are usually other guys that no-one expects to do well, who make the team, and end up starting. It's just the way it is, and I think it's stupid to make following your own team a miserable experience due to the fact that they might draft someone who doesn't live up to expectations.

Hell, I KNOW it's going to happen, every draft, we all do. I think the problem is no-one had us picking Archer, and that's the kiss of death, because all the "I told ya we should have taken Lenny Von Schmoe intead of that bum Archer" crowd just comes peeling out of the ******* woodwork like roaches after the lights go out.

Joe
