Steelers select Dri Archer in Round 3

Great point, along the way, there were many many good discussions about Dri & Co.. The fact that there was drivle along the way, is no different than many other threads. Let the world be as it is. If there are parts some don't like, take it away from yourself personally. Don't change things, just to make you happy as many others may be just as happy as is. Thanks to all, whom have contributed, good or not so good, as we all know, it take a lot to keep the world turning.

Salute the nation

It is just a shame the thread cost us TMC, as he said that he has no intention of returning.............

I will miss his evals /perspective.

If someone leaves a message board because of a thread they may be a little thin skinned. If you don't like a thread don't open it. We all have different opinions, do any of them really matter in the big picture. No. But because they are all different that's what makes it interesting. I usually enjoy the back and forth of both sides of a topic. If I don't like it or get bored with it I just quit reading it.

The thread didn't cost us TMC, TMC cost us TMC. No one forces anyone to come on here and read anything. Sometimes it's frustrating having discussions with people who don't share your point of view, if that frustrates you to the point of leaving a discussion board, then that's your choice, but it most certainly isn't the fault of the board or the thread. It's not like anyone was going on telling TMC he was a worthless piece of ****, they were arguing the merits of a football guy who hasn't taken a preseason snap for the team yet, which in and of itself I would argue is a bit premature, but it's the offseason, so it's what we do.

TMC is far from thin skinned. He's a good guy. Hopefully he'll be back.

Wait... a poster left the board because people disagreed with his opinion on a player?

Oh, I completely agree, always loved talking football with TMC, and his analysis is as good as anyone's, but I just don't think you can accurately predict based just on size if a guy will make it in the NFL, especially with the new rules protecting guys that weren't there in the past. Much much smaller guys might start to find success in the next few years. We will see as time goes on how this pick plays out.

And I too hope he comes back.

Joe

The funny part is, TMC was getting a large amount of compliments on his football knowledge amidst all the silly arguing, from myself included. He seemed insulted that he wasn't getting his due but I didn't see it.

TMC is uber-sensitive because in his mind he is the all-knowing, all-powerful GM of the Steelers who answers to no one.

I agree I respect TMC's opinion and if he is gone I will miss our little debates... BUT he does take this **** way too seriously! In his mind he is ALWAYS right and will argue to no end to prove he is right. I can go back to JJ Watt and Troy Polamalu being busts because Watt was too slow and TP was too short. Or Dave Ragone and Lee Suggs would be first round gems that he wanted. I'm not saying I am always right by ANY means but what I am saying like my opinion his opinion is valid but far from infallible.

My opinion on Archer is as a third round pick it was good value for a guy with his speed and production at RB and WR. I do agree there is some validity in questioning Archers height and weight making the leap to the NFL. But as a very late third round pick I am able to overlook his short comings. (pun intended)

maybe he's on vacations, tired of the board a little.

After Muggsey Bogues had success in the NBA, I gave up on thinking a persons size would determine their success in any sport.

David Meggett, that's what I'm thinking for Archer.

My hope really is a Darren Sproles for offense. Then in the return game be a Dante Hall. That is my hope for him. He could be Chris Rainey or Dexter McCluster or even Reggie Dunn for that matter but my hope is on offense he is a match up headache for defenses and in the return game a guy that can take it to the house a few times a year.

Point being there is a spot for these little guys if they can hold up physically. Chances are they end up getting blasted and hurt. Rainey washed out because of his off field actions, not that he turned heads his rookie year. If this kid can protect the ball and get into open space he will be a weapon of great use to us on offense and special teams. The argument about where he is drafted, man this ain't ******* Madden. Unfortunately for the FO they've not done well in some recent drafts and now everyone is extra skeptical when they take a player like this. Call it a luxury pick for an 8-8 team that doesn't really enjoy the luxury of having a 3rd round pick miss. That's how I see it and I hope he does well like all our other picks.

This was the worst possible year to take this risk being a much deeper draft than normal. And for that it irritates the hell out of me.

I'm sure I've heard people say that the 32nd pick is really like a high second rounder. This was a 3rd round compensation pick which was at the end of the third round. Why not equate that to an early 4th? It was, essentially, the 1st pick of the 4th round.

A 3rd round pick at 97 isn't the same value as the 3rd round pick at 65. I don't know who I would have picked, but, probably, not a RB. I won't pretend that Archer didn't have some value there or that the FO didn't have some idea what they wanted there.

Not at all. TMC stated very clearly why he was leaving the board.

By the way, did you project that he was leaving before he left, or predict that he was leaving before he left?
