TMC's issues were not just this board.

Well I always looked forward to and read his post(s). Agreed with a lot and felt he was pretty solid in his skin. Sorry as to what ever got to him and will miss his input greatly. The board will go on and yes, it would be great if he were to drop in and contribute again.

yeah, dude was pretty thick skinned. hell, he'd have to be to post his opinions here for 14 years.

I always say what's on my mind then go to something else. All of the fighting and debating is a ******* waste of time and energy. Don't worry be happy. Enjoy the ride.

I admit to thinking of Spike when I heard the Saturday announcers say with an excited voice "the Steelers are lining up with 5 wide!"

and the SHOTGUN, NO-HUDDLE 5 WIDE is here to stay *******!

jus like I perdicted

Watch and learn, people. The trademark holder of "5 WIDE *******!" has typed it correctly. Note the proper capitalization and only one exclamation point after the word "*******." My only critique would be the awkwardness of the phrase "is here to stay" in between the words "wide" and "*******." But as the trademark holder you get a pass this time.

This post almost made it off the first page. It has another 67 pages to go, at the very least.

I really liked what I saw these past couple of games. As soon as he catches the ball in some space, the whole place holds their breath because of what could happen. I think he'll be an interesting watch this year.

yeah he had some life issues as well.... so we do not know the extent of the things he faces, but I wish him well.

TMC get it all figured out one day, yinz know we would want you back here. Your real football home. :)

Dri Archer said the Bills paid him a lot more attention than the New York Giants did the week before, yet he added another 40-yard pass reception to his preseason resume. “I've noticed out there, they started (defending) me more,” Archer said. “When they cancel somebody out, they leave somebody open.”

This kid is "rare" fast.....its gonna be psuedo-orgasmic to see him get the edge on a defense and take it upfield. Call him a gimmicky player or a special circumstance player or whatever but i think folks around this league are gonna know who this kid is before the season is done.

Sir, I do think you are correct!!!!!

Ok this is what I think. First pick Shazier and second pick Tuitt the Steelers brass are sure are starters, maybe this year maybe next but starters. Third pick 97 overall there's Bryant, McGill, Richardson and Archer. Maybe they aren't even close to sure about any of them starting but Archer they know will touch the football in the return game and will have nitch plays to try to use his speed. So is it better to draft a guy thinking he won't start or draft a guy you know won't start but will touch the football? And my guess is Bryant, McGill or Richardson will be there with our 4th pick but maybe they knew Archer won't get past Oakland in the 4th.

Man I was smart back in May. It's fun to read the old posts of the people hating on Archer.

Heard all the same **** with Chris Rainey. All of it. Same arguments. Basically had people stating I was not a Steeler fan, blah, blah, blah.

I am still here. Where is Rainey? Everyone does realize that Chris Rainey would only be in his 3rd season right now. He did not make it to a 2nd season, much less 2nd contract. Then, they bring in LSH for the role. Where is he? Lost for the season. Two tiny backs in 2 seasons, both one and done.

And we think they will use Archer in a way that protects him? They will magically find some way to make him productive?

If this were the combine, many here would have tested positive......

It looks like TMC and Rainey must be hanging with each other right now. lol

I haven't said a thing about Archer other than his size. I don't tout the organization and I certainly don't have my opinion spoon fed to me TMC. I explained my position in my last post but you are too hell bent on proving your worth and stroking your ego that you try to paint me as a cheerleader. My basic point is that you try to pawn yourself off as an authoritative expert. You are no different than Kiper or mayock or any other outsider acting like they're an insider. The fact is, the Steelers should ignore their scouts, strategists, position coaches, head coaches or anyone else who dedicates their lives to evaluating talent and simply come to you and Vader and anyone else who reads a few articles and watches youtube highlight reels set to bad rap music for a ******* evaluation. What is Colbert thinking? Why waste all that time, energy, and money on scouting staff when he can simply register to this forum and get the REAL deal on players for ******* FREE!

The crime isn't that you study film and read up on players as a hobby, but rather that you feel that your knowledge is superior to that of a professional organization and scouts with whom have countless years in this game and are instructed to find talent to fit certain schemes the organization would like to run.

I can't believe I missed this one. BEST POST IN THIS ENTIRE THREAD!!

IIRC the issue with Archer was twofold... first off that we really seem to need CBs and RBs are typically a dime a dozen, and secondly that he is fumble prone and his size makes him a natural injury risk. As with anyone with his lack of size but outstanding speed, it is all keyed on getting him the ball in space, which is easier said than done. My opinion is that they took him as a punt returner to free up Brown, but then I prefer a more sure handed guy fielding punts. Perhaps he is able to hold onto the ball better in the pros, but it is a concern that is valid until proven otherwise. Small superfast guys are not new to the NFL, but the Steelers havent really ever utilized them well, so we tend to overlook them. Guys like Stephan Logan and Chris Rainey and Lerod Stephens Howling never made the impact here that preseason play predicated.

Can Archer break that trend, sure, but then again we still havent seen him take the big hit and hold onto the ball yet either

You are arguing with/baiting someone who has been gone for a month?

No, I am just having fun being amused at some of the past posts.

Rainey took one hit which I was sure would break him in half. He wasn't injured (may have fumbled, but I don't remember). IIRC, Rainey wasn't booted from the Steelers because he was injury prone or fumbled too much. His off-the-field antics got him cut. He may be gone by now anyway, but that is neither here nor there. We don't know, for sure.

I think a lot of 3rd rounders are gone from their drafted team by the 2nd contract. Most may still be in the league, but not with their original team. I don't know the breakdown, so that is just a guess. However, keep in mind that this pick was, really, after the 3rd round. It isn't fair to compare pick 97 as a 3rd rounder to someone picked even in the top-5 of the third round. It is, probably, better to look at the picks just before and after 97 for several years to see how those players. I think this should give you a better feel of the value of the pick and whether that value was wasted. I'm not sure that I consider the 97th pick so valuable that I consider it wasted on Archer. You expect your first and second rounders to be around and contribute, especially earlier in those rounds. By pick 97, how much do you expect the player to contribute during the first contract?

I've already stated, I wouldn't have even looked at Archer, even if he had played every game of his college career injury/fumble free. I felt like we needed to take as many shots at finding a CB as possible. But the kid does seem to have some tools. I hope it pans out into regular season games and I give the FO the benefit of the doubt over my opinion.

What a mature thing to say about evaluating draft picks! I think you're on the wrong message board.

why thank you brother, we visionaries are rarely appreciated in our own time.

Lol @ fordfairlane you did nail it! the other two posts were classic. I bet it would take at least 8 hours to read every post on this thread. Archer can't field punts Bryant should instead... Oh wait...

This board is now a desperate attempt to talk Dri Archer smack, and not much more.

You'll have that when you spend a few thousand ******* pages telling people how stupid they are for saying such brazen things like "let's wait till he takes a ******* snap before we say he can't return a punt".
