Steelers sign Herbig to HisBig extension

no qb contract obviously allows us to do weird stuff like this. All these contracts will be off the books before we have a big QB contract unless we make a big splash in free agency next year. Paying 3 edge rushers that much is not ideal but it's manageable without the big QB contract. I think less is more with Herbig, I think once he's a full time starter he won't be nearly as good, just my opinion. Still wouldn't be shocked to see Highsmith moved.

The Buccaneer QB comes free agent after this season, could be the next “vet” QB, he will be bigger money though and less aged……………………

Meet the new Steelers QB……Baker “Dozen” Mayfield

I say this in jest, the above.

The Steelers have the target set on one of the young-ins or a up coming drafted rookie.

Salute the nation

You conveniently left out the second part of the post to make your statement seem valid? Well played, are you familiar with the straw-man fallacy? Right there, that’s what ya did. That’s it. Afterwards, you added in a little witty barb disguised as word play. So… you just took a page from the sleazy, untalented lawyer handbook and called me a $hit bag? Well, that’s an acceptable mistake if you’re sixteen and arguing with your post-menopausal mother, it’s ok. It’s ok when you’re drunkenly bantering with your buddies at the bar. If you’re past that point in time or forum, it’s not really excusable. Regarding this situation, I’m beginning to sweat. I better call Saul on it. You’re beginning to press. I don’t think I can handle the stress. This is getting very droll. Was that a troll? Your post was such a brilliant critique. Good one, I needed a laugh. It’s been a rough month.
The second part is irrelevant, because there is no "after" to a deal that has zero chance of actually occurring. Your trade suggestion is about as inane as any ever offered forth in this forum, genius. Which is saying something.

And your drunken, post-menopausal mother and I get along just fine. At least she has half a brain. You must've gotten yours from the mailman.

That isn’t what led to mediocrity. Bad drafting on the tail end of Colbert’s career and bad coaching, lack of X and O ability. That was in the drivers seat of a decade of mediocrity. Their free agency approach wasn’t great either. Bringing in players clearly on the down side of their careers. You can get away with that if it is random not for your main approach.
Their supposed "long history of figuring (the cap) out" helped lead the Steelers into mediocrity, because it was part of the overarching plan. Calling it fantastic is a reach.

We will have to agree to disagree. I think it is one of their few strengths and continues to show they are very capable.

You think that the Steelers have managed the cap well on defense lately? They've had the highest-paid D in the entire league every single year, starting in 2022, and these are their final rankings in those seasons: #13, #21, #13, and #26. Overspending annually on the defensive side of the ball has clearly handicapped the offense, and not produced anywhere near what they paid.

Sure, the coaching was bad. But somebody in the front office (along with managing the cap) should have noticed that and done something about it a lot sooner. Many of the players remain from those overpaid teams, so we'll see what McCarthy and his staff can do about it. I'm hopeful.

That is the route they chose not the result of bad cap management. That is what Mike wanted heavy emphasis on defense. He targeted the outdated players.

Sorry just strongly do not agree with your take.

Part of good "cap management" is proper budgeting of how much you spend on either side of the ball. If they listened to Tomlin and managed the cap in accordance with he wanted, then at the end of the day, they still failed. A front office doing a fantastic job would keep the head coach in check when he wants to overspend in one area. Or realize that his philosophy was just wrong.

We certainly are in disagreement. But we can both look forward to the changes coming now that MT is gone.

So they are supposed to ignore their HC? Were they constantly over the cap? Were they not able to retain their own or bring in free agents?

Sorry no way did they fail…

Part of the reason Omar got his promotion was what he was able to do in managing the cap. You don’t promote a guy bad at cap management to GM.

I get you are locked into your opinion for me it just isn’t supported with facts.

No, you work together with the head coach. However, they let Tomlin dictate the team's direction, and they constantly overspent on defense. Obviously. The Steelers paid out the most in the NFL on defense for four years straight, yet that unit never finished higher than 13th. That is absolutely a failure and a clear misallocation of cap spending. When you spend the most on defense, conversely, you can't spend as much on offense. That's why, since 2022, the QB position has been a parade of cheaper options which have only helped compound the mediocrity.

The facts are above. It's pretty simple, really.

Signing who the HC wants you to sign is following directions. Their cap was fine they just chose the wrong players. Which again is your head coach choosing washed up bums. So it is your opinion not facts.

It is pretty simple really. Which again is why I said we can agree to disagree.

No need to draw out a conversation where you are locked into your opinion and I am mine.
