Steelers trade for Justin Fields

Pickett was an enigma. Fields is more cut and dry... his issues are ball control and game management.

The thing is the physical ability is there, the problem is you basically cant give him the option money. Its 25 million guaranteed. So he needed to start this year, and he isnt beating Wilson out in a play action heavy offense. He is still really bad in no huddle/ hurry up offense... if they can keep him on the cheap he might be ready in a year or two... which if we are lucky is how long wilson lasts

I will say that even as a Buckeye's fan, I'm not exactly "giddy" about this move. Fields' has about as many issues as Kenny Pickett had. Just different ones. His propensity for turnovers is one I find alarming. It's kind of Trubiskyesque.

I mean for a conditional sixth he is absolutely worth the gamble
And that is the answer to my discomfort. It's not even a 6th this year. It's a 6th next year, which on a trade value chart is what ... an undrafted FA?

We’re paying Russell Wilson NOTHING to be QB1. I’m sure the Khan-artist has something clever up his sleeve for the salary implications. When most starting QBs are making 40-50 million/year, and we won’t be paying 1/2 that for 1A and 1B - I’m ok with that. Hopefully Russ goes one and done and Fields gets the proper attention to go year 2.

I'm assuming (and it's a big assumption) that they are planning to extend him to avoid the 5th year option. I'd like to hope (yes, I know what hope and $3.00 gets you) that this was discussed with Fields' reps before the trade occurred. We'll see.
What would be his incentive to not sit behind Wilson this year and see what the market does next. He has the Steelers over a barrel. How much would you pay him to see wtf he is. Just like you should have seen what Kenny Pickett was but he was free this year.

Tack on paying Mitch and Kenny to not play. And it's not huge but it's not nothing.

A few weeks ago I did not love the idea of trading for Fields, but that's when we were thinking it may take a 2 or 3 to get him. Getting him for peanuts changes everything.

In terms of talent, Justin Fields is elite. He has shown flashes. He had two 4 TD games last year if i recall. He is an absolutely perfect fit in Smith's offense.

He gets to sit behind WIlson for a year and learn the offense. In that year, if you find he's a dummy who isn't picking things up then you let him go. But if he shows promise then you give him a year to audition to be your franchise QB.

They should come up with a package of plays for Fields, maybe redzone RPO stuff.

So Khan got two former starting quarterbacks for a conditional 6th round pick and a million and change.

THAT is incredible dealing right there. Each have their issues, but you have to hand it to the Khan artist.

Next year I want to see Khan obtain Montez Sweat from the Bears for some magic beans.

So pay him the 20 million for 2025 and tell Russ right now he is a one year rental. And you do know that Wilson is one of the top Red Zone Qs last year and most years. I really couldn't maje this **** up if I tried.

This is not your Father's Steelers. It's your Father's useless brother who ****** away his inheritance and bought a Corvette Steelers.
Nah, they are taking chances with very little risk on both of these moves. I didn't want either when I still thought Kenny had a pair, but then when the price came down and Kenny decided to prove he is a whiny little Gen Z *****, I am fine with these moves.

He is 10-28 and everyone is applauding. So what money is he due in May and as it looks Tomlin is showing his true color this off season.

The maneuverings of Khan.
1. The Eagles wanted Fields and inquired about him. As did the Steelers.
2. The Bears' asking price was too high for either the Eagles or the Steelers.
3. The Eagles inquire about Pickett. Khan makes the trade (taking away the only other team asking about Fields)
4. The Bears are forced to lower their asking price since the Steelers aren't going to bid against themselves

Not sure what you mean by that, but I am not liking what I think you may be insinuating. I wasn't on board with these moves but as Fields doesn't have to start i am not too worried about his record. His physical talent is undeniable and maybe with some seasoning we will be good.

Fields stinks, but at that price, completely worth it. He'll be fine as a backup. I really don't have much hope that he figures it out, but at least he has the physical tools if he does put things together to be very good.
