Steelers trade for Justin Fields

Is bermuda sharing those gummies with everyone?
I wish. Wilson was a former MVP, Fields is a gifted physical talent. They cost next to nothing this year and we can figure out something with Fields. I wasn't at all on board with these two at what I thought they would cost but for this? "Let's ride!" lol.

Two 7ths in 2025 basically equals a 6th in 2025

So essentially Pickett and move up from 120 to 98 for Fields

Lmao Khan artist making moves

As much as I didn’t want either Russ or Fields can’t argue those 2 > Pickett/Trubisky (our top 2 heading into last season)

About the same cap allocation taboot
May
The Steelers are taking a big chance with Fields. I have not seen the compensation yet. What I'm wondering is what do the Steelers do if Rus has an amazing year and wants to sign a four year contract at a reasonable rate going forward? They then have to pay Fields the fifth year option at 25 million as a backup next year. I wonder how Fields is going to feel about being a backup. I guess competition is a good thing, but Rus isn't coming to play backup. At least we have significantly upgraded the QB room. Now, will they have anyone decent to throw to or hike the ball?
Russ won’t command a 4 year extension
IF Russ wins job maybe a 2 year extension and kiss the 6th for Fields goodbye

We’re paying Russell Wilson NOTHING to be QB1. I’m sure the Khan-artist has something clever up his sleeve for the salary implications. When most starting QBs are making 40-50 million/year, and we won’t be paying 1/2 that for 1A and 1B - I’m ok with that. Hopefully Russ goes one and done and Fields gets the proper attention to go year 2.

If the Bears didn't have to foot the bill for 38 million, he wouldn't be on the Steelers. It's a free rental. The same with Fields who sucks.

The Steelers don't develop people ,so what you see is what you get.

I kinda get this vibe we're the island for.

This is all smoke and mirrors for Khan to move up in the first and grab his franchise QB

They’ll never see it coming

Then we have two cheap QBs to bide some time while the franchise gets ready

I just have a hard time seeing the silver lining with this one. Wilson was a step up, but at 35 our line better be light years ahead of last or I think Fields is going to see a lot of playing time. I see Kenny 2.0.

The new OC will help both with his system. Come on drink the gold koolaid, I did. at least I hope it was koolaid.

The maneuverings of Khan.
1. The Eagles wanted Fields and inquired about him. As did the Steelers.
2. The Bears' asking price was too high for either the Eagles or the Steelers.
3. The Eagles inquire about Pickett. Khan makes the trade (taking away the only other team asking about Fields)
4. The Bears are forced to lower their asking price since the Steelers aren't going to bid against themselves

He's certainly a savvy negotiator. I'm crossing my fingers Wilson has a few years left in him. I think Fields is what he is.

The cool part I'm impressed with is both guys cost around 5 million bucks total for the season and there's no commitment past that.

That's a win win situation. Now draft a **** ING center and tackle.

While I don't see Fields as the answer, with both Wilson and him essentially on one year deals, the cost of acquiring him was a steal.
Now, will he play this year and if he does can he overcome the turnover issues that have plagued him?

Maybe he'll be the first QB this staff develops. It's going to take a lot of kool-aid to buy that one. But hey, all we can do is cheer and hope for the best.

Here is the best possible spin I can put on this. You guarantee Fields 12-15 million for 2025 and if he is on roster for 2026 he makes like 30. Seeing what his trade market and he us going to be a backup to Russ Wilson next year maybe he realizes his market is soft.

I don’t study Justin Fields. I follow him for fantasy purposes. That being said, he is head and shoulders over Kenny. Will be interesting to see what he can do with a team around him.
For fantasy, sure... but not for winning football games...

He has a 10-28 record and has only 2 4th quarter comebacks in his history... mostly because he has a terrible completion rate in the last 4 minutes when trailing, as well as in no huddle anytime... his no huddle completion percentage was under 50% last year..

Dont get me wrong, this guy has better physical talent than Pickett, but isnt better than him on the field despite having more Tds.

He has way too many picks and fumbles and basically isnt much of a pressure qb...

again, worth it because it was so cheap and guys do develop in year 4 or 5, and he does have talent... but this guy isnt really starter material yet..

He better, or Cool Shades will absolutely freak out over it.

damn my prediction of moving up and getting McCarthy just took a big hit to the nutz
McCarthy would have been a great pick and move, instead we will be in QB limbo for at least 2 more years unless Fields just becomes a whole new dude, unlikely tho

Wilson will turn 36 this season. He's 100% not a long-term option for us, and we're paying him jack **** this year. If we sign him for a multi-year contract, it will likely be after this season, with the complete sell that he's going to be Fields' backup - or during a transition period to Fields. Shouldn't be a hard sell considering his age and he'll be making coin holding a clipboard.

Fields, at even a 4th next year, is a ******* bargain.

Other than Jayden Daniels, there's arguably no other QB in the draft I'd have wanted to get. I've been pimping Jordan Travis, and we could still take him.

The problem with Fields is that 5th year option at $25mil. I'm sure there were already talks to sign him to a new deal, as he's essentially a backup to a Super Bowl winning QB at this point in his career. And the sell is that no other team wanted him. Going from 11th to being traded for as low as a 6th, that's gotta hurt an ego.

*edit - thanks @topseed
