Steelers VS Raiders #Immaculate game thread.

You don't draft a QB in the third thinking he is the heir apparent. They had a real close look at him when Ben went down. As well as training camps. If that doesn't impress, your period of time they are willing to give you to develop shortens quickly.
A third round pick is a significant investment especially when a team has other needs. Rudolph’s selection was criticized given that Ben hadn’t yet mentioned retiring. I think the Steelers did see Rudolph as a potential heir apparent. Didn’t they say they had a first round grade on him?

The first round pick is a sunk cost, everyone should hope that that will have nothing to do with Pickett’s tenure a couple years from now.
That’s not how the NFL operates, especially Tomlin.

A young QB who you invest a 1st round pick on to be your QB of the future should get at least 3, if not 4 years to see who he will become. You definitely don't label him after a few games (like many have) or less than a year (like many more have). All players typically take a big leap from years one to two. QB's have a lot more to learn and process than other players and they typically get their entire rookie contract to see if they will stick or not. So, KP will and should get his rookie contract to see what he can do. So far, with the poor O-line and terrible OC, he has shown some promising signs. He is a studier and is intelligent like some of the greats. So, let's see what he does with a true offseason and hopefully a new OC next year. My guess is he will have improved significantly and he will continue to improve heading into his 3rd and 4th years. If he doesn't, then they can look to draft another QB with a top pick, if they have it.

That's my take as well and hope it proves true. As for the second sentence, I don't think we'll ever have a top pick (1-10), Mediocre Mike is just good enough of a coach to get 8-9 wins a year resulting in picking around 20-22 year after year.

THIS !!!

That is a part of why I am willing to exit him and bring in new.

Sure, we know what we have with Mike Tomlin and a “NEW” coach could fail miserably BUT, the new guy could just as easily excel.

Salute the nation
