Week 10 arrives with the Pittsburgh Steelers sitting at 5-3 and eyeing down the 0-8 Detroit Lions coming to town. After a 1-3 start and being written off for the dead, the Steelers are winners of four straight and look to take care of business vs a very down NFC opponent. The Steelers offense moved the ball fairly well early Monday night vs the Chicago Bears but struggled to move the ball and more specifically run the ball late. The Steelers finished the night with 105 team rushing yards and 280 total yards (to the Bears 414 total). The Ben Roethlisberger led offense looks to rebound against a Lions defense giving up the 2nd most points per game at 30.5. With giving up that many points per game, there is fantasy gold to be found!
Dionate Johnson has been and will continue to be a WR1 fantasy must start every single week. He is matchup proof. Coming off his worst fantasy game of the season, he gets a bottom 3-5 defense this week in the form of the Lions. Johnson had 11.7 fantasy points off his 2nd lowest target mark of the season so far with only 6. 11.7 fantasy points and around 6 targets are a great floor.
Najee remains a set it and forget it as well. Questions about Najee’s availability arose after he appeared on the Steelers injury report with a foot injury. He was listed as a full participate on Friday’s practice report and looks good to go. Najee had 16.8 points on Monday Night Football, his lowest fantasy total since Week 1, and found the endzone for the 5th straight game. The Lions give up the 4th most rushing yards per game and the 2nd most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs.
Muuuuuuuuth is coming off a monster fantasy game for the TE position, catching 5 balls in 6 targets and finding the endzone twice. This play is a bit concerning in fantasy when you realize Eric Ebron will be back Sunday. Freiermuth, who has at least 6 targets in 3 straight games, will probably need to find the endzone to have double digit fantasy points. However, he still cracks my TE top 12 at 12th, so he is very much worth a streaming option.
Washington saw his fantasy stock rise on Friday with the news confirming Chase Claypool will miss the Lions game. Increased snap count may not guarantee fantasy success for Washington, as he has 18 targets through 8 games as the WR3 in this offense, but he does have in his favor the trust of Big Ben Roethlisberger. We’ve seen in previous seasons, crucial moments and big-time 3rd down plays, Big Ben is not shy about looking Washington’s way. He is the definition of an optimistic play this week.
Big Ben is coming off his highest scoring fantasy game of the year, 16.2. Ben remains an optimistic play in deeper leagues or super flex two QB leagues. He could be a sneaky good play in Week 10 if the Steelers offense can move the ball. I don’t expect Ben to throw it a ton unless he must, but Ben has the potential to toss a couple scores from in close if the Steelers control this game. The flip side if it’s close or the Steelers struggle, Ben will have to start throwing.
Let’s get to the most important part now, the projections.
(QB) Ben Roethlisberger – 13.4 pts
(RB) Najee Harris – 21.5 pts
(WR) Diontae Johnson – 17.0 pts
(WR) Chase Claypool – OUT
(WR) James Washington – 7.5 pts
(TE) Pat Freiermuth – 8.0 pts
(TE) Eric Ebron – 5.0 pts
