Tariffs

I'm afraid two things are going to come back and bite him in the *** come mid terms. Student loans and Social security. he barley got his big beautiful bill passed in the house. 115-114 where they hold a generous advantage and I wouldn't be shocked if it failed in the senate.

He appointed someone to head social security that admitted he had no clue about the job and had to google it, not only does that not elude confidence; add to that that he is the fifth person appointed to the position this year so people on social security are getting nervous

The student loan scene is just a **** show. I was looking at his proposal and it looks like for new borrowers it could be a good plan but for existing borrowers it could be a nightmare. add in the back and forth with the Tariffs and the fact that the ten wealthiest Americans have added 360 BILLION dollars to their wealth in the last few months, it just seems like we could see a huge shift come mid terms.

I voted for the guy three times and I will continue to hold out hope he has this and support him but I definitely am not liking the vibe I'm getting.

Trying to speculate rarely translates into reality. While this bill still reeks with increased spending, it does contain some good points, tip tax, child care, etc.

As for the student loan crisis that the Federal government, banks and universities created, just make them interest free as long as a certain amount is paid back each month or at rates no higher than the current prime. It's the interest that's killing people.

Also, I've been on SS for a while now and I'm not nervous.

As far as the tariffs go I haven't a clue and the only information we get is usually biased based on the ideology of who's presenting the information, it's likely not as great as those that are cheerleading or as shattering as the doom and gloom crowd reports.

For me, the last 4 months have been better than the last 4 years, so I'm going to take a wait and see attitude, but the arrow is most certainly pointing up.

The Democrat party seems to be doubling or even tripling down moving further left, dumb, but who am I to judge, so at this point I'm not all that concerned with the mid-terms. Something factually bad would have to occur to change my mind and not just the relentless whining from the MSM that Orange Man Bad.

My fix for student loans, and I've emailed the White House, is 1) Make them interest-free and 2) Put the colleges on the hook for whatever they haven't paid back in ten years.
That will end the gravy train of expensive degrees in stupid **** that you can't earn a living with.

But you would buy the made in USA one, right? RIGHT?

So your concern is about Trump and the midterms, not what his policies could do to the country? Sounds like unwavering fealty.

If someone borrowed money as student loan, pay it back under the terms you agreed to. It's a contract. Honor it.

No other person should bail you out . Whiney b!tch.

Right, so why do USA-made things often cost so much more?
Hint: When the Pubbies try to cut regulations to reduce costs, the Dims scream bloody murder.
But it's okay for China and India to pay slave wages and have no environmental and worker protection regulations.
And if President Trump wants tariffs to level the playing field, the Dims are against it.

I buy American when possible. Once I went shopping for a fuel filter for my truck and there was one made in China and one made in USA that cost like $1.00 more so that was no question. On the other hand, Bill's Khakis are made in USA but I don't have $215.00 to spend on a pair of pants.

yes those are my concerns. the problem with the people of this country are they are to damn impatient to let things play out. and half this country wants others to pay their way, I think thats the half you fall into.

Trumps policies will turn this country around and maybe we can get back to the days where people can actually afford ****.

was this to me?

No. It's to anyone who whines about paying back money that they knowingly borrowed. Don't take it personally. It's just business.

just for the record I agree, I was just pointing out what I see could get us in the mid terms. These are two big issues that could cost votes. I don't know what the answer is I just know a lot of voters are paying close attention to this ****.

China, India, Canada, the EU….

How much you want to bet I can find a Republican that is against Trump’s tariffs? How many times do you want to bet?

My federal taxes support the poor **** hole red states.

Nope. Tariffs are a tax that get passed on to consumers. **** is going to become less affordable.

Never said there wasn't. Plenty of establishment Pubbies who like things they way they are. We call them Democrat Lite. We're doing our best to primary them out.
See, one of your many problems is that you assume Republicans operate in the same monolithic way as Democrats.

But increasing corporate income tax (that the Dims love) doesn't?
Let it be known that tariffs are the only tax Democrats don't like.

All but five did on the budget bill vote. I’m sure many who voted for it didn’t want to.

I haven’t experienced the problems in lige you have shared so I must be doing something right.

Maybe they want to return to the good old days of the 50’s and its strong and prosperous economy.?

We didn't need tariffs in the 50's because post-WWII we were the economic gorilla in the house. Nor did we have tons of regulations increasing the cost of doing business. In 1960 imported vehicles made up about 5% of the US automobile market.
If we go back to 1950's standards on environment, labor, and crash protection, then we can get there. I'm all in favor of that.

Hasn't this been the Walmart/Amazon business plan, doing an end around American products, for the past two generations?

Right, but that gets back to my point about WHY do American-made products cost so much more and what can we do to fix it?
If it was up to me I wouldn't even do tariffs, I'd completely ban imports from countries that have have lower environmental and worker protection standards than ours.

The simple answer is that America's best brands have systematically reduced their costs via cheap imports.....to the benefit of the US consumer, at the expense of the American worker.
This only works because of the very stable dollar (stable because of its use in all oil & drug trades-Nixon- and the 7 aircraft carriers)

So Americans have been having the cake and now Trump wants to eat it too.
