Philip Haney, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) whistleblower who was an outspoken critic of the administration of former President Barack Obama, was found dead Friday, about 40 miles east of Sacramento, Calif., local authorities said.

Haney, 66, "appeared to have suffered a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound," the Amador County Sheriff's Office said in a release. Sheriff and coroner Martin A. Ryan shared the initial details of the case.

"On February 21, 2020 at approximately 1012 hours, deputies and detectives responded to the area of Highway 124 and Highway 16 in Plymouth to the report of a male subject on the ground with a gunshot wound," the release read.

"Upon their arrival, they located and identified 66-year-old Philip Haney, who was deceased and appeared to have suffered a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was located next to Haney and his vehicle. This investigation is active and ongoing. No further details will be released at this time," the office added.

Gangsters! Another guy who said he was not depressed in any way and would never kill himself.

The Amador County Sheriff’s Office said the death of Philip Haney, a former Department of Homeland Security official during the Obama administration, is still under investigation and has not been conclusively ruled as a suicide.

“Unfortunately, there was misinformation immediately being put out that we have determined Mr. Haney’s death to be a suicide. This is not the case. We are currently in the beginning phase of our investigation, and any final determination as to the cause and manner of Mr. Haney’s death would be extremely premature and inappropriate,” the office announced Monday night in a press statement. “No determination will be made until all evidence is examined and analyzed,” it added.

Haney, 66, was found dead with a bullet wound on Friday morning about 40 miles east of Sacramento, California, in a park-and-ride open area immediately adjacent to state Highway 16 and near state Highway 124, according to law enforcement authorities.

“Highway 16 is a busy state highway and used as a main travel route to and from Sacramento. The location is less than three miles from where [Haney] was living,” the sheriff’s office statement explained.

Sheriff’s investigators conducted a neighborhood canvas and interviewed Haney’s RV park neighbors on the day of the incident. They also examined “key areas for any video surveillance that may exist from that time.” A forensic autopsy has been scheduled to be performed by forensic pathologists from the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

“Additionally, we have reached out to our law enforcement partners in the Federal Bureau of Investigation to assist in analyzing documents, phone records, and a laptop that were recovered from the scene and Mr. Haney’s RV,” the sheriff's office said, adding that authorities are also in possession of his vehicle, RV, and the firearm located at the scene.

The FBI was called to process these items as evidence as well, and the investigation is still active.

Haney was a government whistleblower during his time at the DHS. He testified in 2016 before the Senate Judiciary Committee that his agency ordered him to erase hundreds of files on people with connections to Islamist terrorist organizations, arguing that several terrorist attacks could have been stopped if certain files were not deleted.

You hush your damned mouth. Tibstardlodyte told all of us, Obama was not a terrorist, not a terrorist sympathizer, not a Christian-hater.

Instead the man was was an open-minded, peace loving, racially-unifying force this country so desperately needed. He was the one Great Salve of Healing this nation needed.

'Tis been decreed.

  • Philip Haney, who spoke out against his own agency during the Obama administration, was found dead in Plymouth, California last Friday
  • His body was found in a park and ride area near Highway 16 and Highway 124
  • The Amador County Sheriff's Office initially said the 66-year-old was found with what appeared to be a 'self-inflicted gunshot wound'

Authorities have backtracked on initial reports that a Department of Homeland Security whistleblower committed suicide after his body was found with a gunshot wound by a California highway.

The sheriff's office has scheduled a forensic autopsy to be carried out on Haney's body.

They have also enlisted the help of the FBI to analyze documents, phone records and a laptop that were recovered from the scene and Haney's RV.

'We are currently in possession of his vehicle, the firearm located at the scene and his RV and we will be requesting evidence processing assistance from the FBI on those items as well,' the sheriff's office said.

Authorities said they are also checking for surveillance video from the area.

The area where Haney's body was found is less than three miles away from the RV park where he was living at the time.

Several months before his death, Haney - who formally retired from the DHS in 2015 - told the Washington Examiner that he was considering a sequel to his 2016 book that detailed his experiences within the agency.

He had intended to publish it in mid-spring ahead of this year's election.

Source have also said that Haney had been in contact with officials about possibly making a return to the the DHS.

Haney gained national attention in 2016 when he criticized the agency - which at the time was under the Obama administration - for its handling of radical Jihadists and Islamic extremists.

He testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that the DHS ordered him in 2009 to delete hundreds of files that showed links between people and Islamic terror groups.

The whistleblower testified that several terror attacks in the U.S. could have been thwarted if some of those files had not been deleted.

In an opinion piece for the Hill prior to his testimony, Haney wrote: 'It is very plausible that one or more of the subsequent terror attacks on the homeland could have been prevented if more subject matter experts in the Department of Homeland Security had been allowed to do our jobs back in late 2009.

'It is demoralizing - and infuriating - that today, those elusive dots are even harder to find, and harder to connect, than they were during the winter of 2009.'

At the time of Haney's testimony, Republicans questioned former Obama-era DHS Secretary Jet Johnson about the allegations.

Senator Ted Cruz asked: 'Was Mr Haney's testimony that the Department of Homeland Security order over 800 documents... altered or deleted accurate?'

Johnson replied he had 'no idea' and denied knowing who Haney was.

'I don't know who Mr Haney is. I wouldn't know him if he walked into the room,' he said.

firearm found at the scene was a Glock 19

holes fired through his head were from a .45 at odd angles for suicide.

bet?

"The "special" Glock 19, also sometimes referred to as the "Glock 1911," has a safety and an adjustable barrel, capable of handling a .45 round if another person holds the firearm as it is discharged. Therefore, consistent with suicide."

I read that he was also getting married in a month. Arkanacide is a thing.

I find it very odd that an author of multiple books and someone who worked for the DHS for over 15 years (and who just died - very suspiciously) doesn't even have a Wikipedia page.

And Hillary shakes her head in disgust as she quietly says "Rookies."
