The Coronavirus thread

Do you have Flu vs Covid-19 stats for China?

Stats ?

BWAhahahahahaha

You think the cases miraculously stopped on the OWN?

The Chinese sterilized that ******* city day and night for a MONTH and LOCKED up and SEALED IN all their people

Now, let's talk about Italy, Wuhan was only 11 million people

60 MILLION PEOPLE QUARANTINED IN ITALY

Italy has a massive debt problem, worst in EU, that needs a "crisis". Just sayin'

What of Iran? Shouldn't they all be infected and dying now?

How much of this is theater and special effects for the bored folks on FB?

Fuine enough, but do you really think a President Hildebeast is any better equipped to handle this crisis or would have done things any differently? Especially since she's taken millions of dollars from China over the last 25 years? Or would she just get less criticism since she's a Democrat?

Tibs is pushing the DNC narrative that the debunked cuts at CDC would have magically made a difference and that there would be millions of test kits available for a virus that has only existed a few months. It’s out of the DNC playbook to push this **** out to their base and let the base spread it everywhere.

The truth is Trump HAD to act calm because panic is the worst enemy. A mad rush to buy things, stop going to work, withdraw cash, et. al. would all be disastrous.

This is a LOT like influenza but the difference is we don't have any vaccine yet and won't until mid-2021.

Leadership in Italy did not cause there problems. Leadership here is not causing our problems. I'm not even sure China could have done much difference once the cat was out of the bag.

This is how viruses spread.

It sounds like what governments around the world are going to do is fight this thing tooth and nail. That means massive impact on the economy. Stock markets, profits, energy use, consumption - all down for the rest of the year.

We still don't know a couple things: will spring/summer help? Once you had it, can you get it again? Are we really counting all those infected or are many, many people have it and don't know it.

I don't know what to say. As long as the media runs with this story, Covid-19 will be front and center in everyone's mind. Every death, every case, every shut down, every event canceled. How long will they hyperfocus on these things?

It could have major impact on the 2020 election if it stays in the news until summer or later. If it blows over, Trump will get a solid bounce back. If it's worse, then it really makes things interesting.

“We are testing everyone who needs to be tested” -Trump.

The US federal public health response is beyond pathetic, 3rd world level incompetent, heads stuck in the sand, "its just the flu"

What would be disastrous is people with “mild symptoms” going about their everyday lives spreading the virus to the rest of the community. Containment is key.

Spring Break!!

Thousands of Canadian teachers, and their sniffly kids, headed to both FL coasts for a week or so, on rolling weeks for rest of month. They are very stressed due labor strikes for reduced class sizes, and the winter. And other families too, with that long planned trip south.

Spike, shut down the northern border, airports, DisneyWorld, Legoland, the Redneck Riviera, etc.

Whatever, this isn't a ******* debating society, all the jibber jabber isn't going to wish away what is happening in Italy when the wave breaks here. Get your heads out of the sand and stop trying to wish this away.

Italy is what happens when the disease overruns your medical capability to handle the massive surge in patients that can happen when the disease spikes, that's all I was saying. The capacity of our healthcare system to handle the surge can easily be overrun if you don't take measures to stop the spread NOW. Jacking around in delaying testing now to "make the numbers look good" is stupidity beyond belief.

The idea is to slow down the spread of the virus! Letting in more infected is just going to add to the problem, and the main wave hasn't even hit yet!

We are two weeks behind Italy, you keep ignoring Italy, pretend it can't happen, but that is exactly what can happen in a couple weeks and when you have a federal government with its head up its *** you end up behind the curve of the epidemic!

That's where we are today, less than a month away from total disaster.

Dude, you've gone deepend. Exclamation points everywhere OH MY! You've got more posts than Tibs in an anti-Trump thread...sort of like here LOL.

Relax. Calm down. You have a month of food. Sit in your bunker. Breathe. Just breathe.

Never thought I'd agree with a Cuomo, but listen to Governor Cuomo of New York. He should be pimping the hysteria the media's been spewing (that you've been drinking like Kool-aid). Instead, he's rational.

"People are reacting like this is the Ebola virus. It's not the ebola virus. This hysteria that you see, this fear that you see, the panic that you see...its unwarranted. We have dealt with worse viruses. This spreads like the flu. But most people will have it and they get on with their lives. Many people will have it and not know that they have it...It's not good that 3,800 people passed away. That's true, that is very true. By the way, 10 times that number will pass away from the flu this year. That's what the flu does...in a seasonal basis."

Some stats he displayed for New York:

Hospitalizations: 6 out of 142 cases (6% of cases)
(since you like big bold emphasis)

It's happening everywhere around the globe where COVID is. A large number of those infected go on about their lives not knowing they have it because the symptoms aren't severe for them.

This is why much of the "math" that's being reported isn't accurate.

One correction on that board - it isn't a viral pneumonia. It can cause viral pneumonia. So can the flu. So can a cold.

Also, I don't know what those contagion factors mean, but everything I've read says that it's much more contagious than SARS.

Tibsy, Tell us.. Please share details

Do you really think you can come on here and expect to have a normal conversation, about this or anything else? When you follow me around like a wet dog, insulting me post after post, thread after thread, month after month?

How bout this. Why don't you **** right off?

FOR THEM. You say that like it’s not terribly problematic. Your “accurate” math is speculation.

Wow. Chicken Little much? THE SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING! BWAAAAA! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!

A lot of these measures feel like just postponing the inevitable. It will be years, not months, before a vaccine is discovered, tested and widely distributed. So we're either going to all have to accept some level of risk of getting this or we just shut down modern life as we know it for a period of at least a couple of years.

The consequences of the latter seem far worse to me than the consequences of the former.

I'm done criticizing Trump and the gov's response to this. His shortcomings in leadership and ridiculous falsehoods were blatantly clear - at least to me - over the past month and half. We're slowly but surely getting into a 'wartime president' situation, where there's simply no reason to point fingers and lay blame. We should all focus on how things can stabilize asap, and hope the damage is mitigated as much as possible.

I will continue to argue with those on the board - and elsewhere - who for whatever reason and with whatever motive - continue to downplay this pandemic, try to sugarcoat it and pretend it's no big deal, claiming it's 'just like any other seasonal flu virus.' That is not helping anyone at this point, including your friends and family who may get caught up in it.

Hope everyone stays safe and healthy. Wishing you all the best, in particular those with older friends and family members, and those working in the medical & nursing fields.

that's a helluva statement, Tibs, considering Governor Nuisance is ******* PRAISING Trump's response and actions.

California's Democrat Governor Praises Trump's Coronavirus Response: 'Every Single Thing he Said They Followed Through On'
By Jason Lemon On 3/9/20 at 1:29 PM EDT

California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom praised president President Donald Trump on Monday for supporting his state as it combats the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Trump and his administration have faced criticism for their response to the coronavirus. But Newsom, who declared a state of emergency in California last Wednesday, shared positive remarks about the way the president has responded and supported the West Coast state.

"We had a private conversation, but he said, 'We're gonna do the right thing' and 'You have my support, all of our support, logistically and otherwise,'" Newsom told reporters at a Monday news conference.

"He said everything I could have hoped for," the governor asserted. "And we had a very long conversation and every single thing he said, they followed through on," he noted.

Newsom said that he has received "consistent" support from Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, who is leading the administration's response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Many have raised concerns and criticized the administration's handling of the pandemic, particularly after Trump dubbed coronavirus a "new hoax" from the Democrats during a rally at the end of February. The president also later questioned health experts on why the virus couldn't be treated with an ordinary flu shot, and suggested that people with COVID-19 could still go to work during an interview with Fox News.

Even some Republicans have urged Trump to follow the advice of health experts and avoid sharing information not supported by science.

"I listen to the scientists when it comes to the numbers, and I would encourage the president if he's going to report things to make sure the science is behind what he's saying," GOP Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who generally defends the president, told reporters on Thursday.

Trump himself has repeatedly pushed back against critics, arguing that the media and Democrats are unfairly attacking his administration's response to coronavirus.

"The Fake News Media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything within its semi-considerable power (it used to be greater!) to inflame the CoronaVirus situation, far beyond what the facts would warrant," he tweeted on Monday morning.

More than 100,000 people have been infected by coronavirus globally, with the majority of those cases being in China, where the virus was first discovered. The World Health Organization officially puts the death toll from confirmed cases at 3.4 percent.

But health experts have estimated that the overall death rate may be 2 percent or less, noting that many cases go untested and are not confirmed. Symptoms are mild for many individuals, meaning they may never even realize they've contracted COVID-19.

According to the available data, those under 30 have a significantly lower chance of dying from the virus, while the death rate increases among the elderly. Those with pre-existing health conditions – such as heart disease, diabetes and respiratory problems – appear to be at greater risk of facing serious complications from the virus.

The vast majority of people have no reason to panic about this. Why does hearing that bother you so much? Isn't needless panic a bad thing for a lot of reasons?

Coronavirus Patient Zero in Italy Was Pakistani Migrant Who Refused to Self-Isolate

The man believed to be coronavirus patient zero in Italy is a Pakistani migrant refused to self-isolate after testing positive for the virus and continued to deliver food.

Health authorities asked the man to quarantine himself at his home in the Pavia* area for two weeks, but he ignored the request and continued to work at a Chinese restaurant.

He then compounded the risk of spreading the virus by making home deliveries of Chinese food.

Authorities were alerted to the situation and the military intervened to return the man to his home.

“The Carabinieri have been busy reconstructing all the movements of the young man, in order to identify as many people as possible with whom he came into contact. In the meantime, the military has closed the Chinese restaurant,” reports Free West Media.

The migrant now faces up to 3 months in jail for failing to self-isolate under article 650 of the Italian penal code.

Italy has recorded a total of more than 3,000 cases of the coronavirus and 148 people have died. The country was the primary source of the virus spreading to numerous other European countries.

* Pavia is a suburb of Milan and one of my cousins lives there.
