The Coronavirus thread

Then why aren’t you criticizing Trump for today’s massive overreaction?

If the model proves to be true in NYC alone, it could be 100,000 dead. I don’t know where this thing is headed. If you’re so cocksure, why don’t you go on record as to what the final tally will be?
How freaking abyssmal are you?

Here are the words from a recent paper co-authored by a guy named Fauci:

the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%)*

yes, I just clipped part, so here is the website link:

I guess if you don't want to see the latest news, figures, stats and stories regarding this worldwide pandemic, maybe don't open the ******* thread. Or, should we be posting pictures of fields full of flowers, or butterflies, or something that's easier to stomach?

See, this irritated me and it wasn't even directed toward me. It's **** like this that make people think you're a self-important douchebag.

It's so nice you went out of your way the last few days to not blame Trump BTW. We must owe you a debt of gratitude! Whoopty-*******-do. You can't blame Trump because the man has finally taken the reins and is trying to steer this country back to normalcy in a time of serious crisis. He may not say all the best things, he may not do every little thing you like -- but he's trying, and he's had a hell of a lot of praise from prominent Democrats recently. This should be completely bipartisan, but I noticed that the Democrats are nixing a bill that provides stimulus to large & small corporations & their workers specifically. Nancy Pelosi belongs in a rubber room. Chuck Schumer was on CNN not even 24 hours ago talking about the great bipartisanship they are showing. Now at the 11th hour, this bullshit, while working class Americans wait.

I'll never vote for a Democrat for as long as I live.

And here it is, those nasty hyenas found their wounded gazelle:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">From a GOP perspective, I'm hearing this is the problem. Dems have figured out they can get Mnuchin to cave and so they naturally want to keep pushing for more and more of their pet projects to get codified in a "relief package." <a href="https://t.co/rYeSwEjPW8">https://t.co/rYeSwEjPW8</a></p>— Mollie (@MZHemingway) <a href="https://twitter.com/MZHemingway/status/1241913045967867907?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 23, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Uh oh, from the racist Washington Post just a couple months ago (there are so many other examples that it's actually funny, but):

ETvE8GgXYAAvkOE

Sickening:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Nothing in the Senate has shocked me, until today. Standing in the way of a critically needed rescue package is irresponsible and reckless. Dems say not enough money to states: nearly $200 billion isn’t chump change. Hospitals get at least $75 billion.</p>— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) <a href="https://twitter.com/MittRomney/status/1241921484320358400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 23, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

The NYT needed three tries before they got it right:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Everything good with Schumer and Pelosi's comms people now <a href="https://twitter.com/deanbaquet?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@deanbaquet</a>? The third time did it? <a href="https://t.co/XtSYfnPNK7">pic.twitter.com/XtSYfnPNK7</a></p>— Stephen L. Miller (@redsteeze) <a href="https://twitter.com/redsteeze/status/1241900585634299904?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 23, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

And I'm not going into work tomorrow for probably the first time in over a decade, so **** off and let me cluster post while I figure this brave new world out (& filling out an unemployment application).

You realize if the cure works there is going to be a metric **** ton of liberal mouthpieces with a lot of egg on their faces, and if the stock market climbs even close to where is was before he is going to win over 40 states easily...

Like they need to actively root that this cure fails or they are toast... heard 3 more dems today on chat bailing on the party...

**** just hit close to home. My brother-in-law's brother in Florida has it. He's about 70 and has other health issues anyway and is in a medically-induced coma.

This thing will last 4 weeks .....max. It has been one.....3 left.
After that, the societal unraveling starts.
Bet on it.

I like the way you think.

Future debate... in a couple weeks we rational folks are gonna be sayin "told ya so" while the lefties are gonna be sayin "it was short lived because of the precautions we took."
Bet on it.

Nope Trump is taking these precautions and will be Trumpeting it, and winning. He has managed to make nice with major left wing Governors and had them say good things about him. Dewine is taking these actions here in Ohio and he is Trump guy. This is pretty bipartisan in actions.

Not to sound crass JonBoy but do ya think the results might have been the same if he caught a case of the flu ? Even a common cold at that age, with certain conditions like COPD, can lead to serious issues.

I'm still thinkin' that politics are a big factor in this here diatribe.

At least we still have a modicum of irony and amusement.

Who is exaggerating and overstating the risks? Who is inciting panic?

Is it the daily live press conferences by the WH covid-19 response team? Is it the fact Trump shut down travel from China and Europe? Is it the call for 500 million facemasks by the WH? Or the involvement of FEMA in a nationwide response? Is it governors and mayors - in daily consultation with the WH - who are shutting down cities around the country? Is it the CDC posting their directives to try to limit the spread of the virus? Is it Trump reaching out to the private sector to involve them in the effort. Is it the media that is doing their jobs reporting on this?

I'm confused, if you don't think this is something to be taken seriously, why don't you blame the WH & the government for taking all these drastic steps and measures. If you think this whole covid-19 situation should be brushed away and dismissed?

three instances where you cite President Trump's actions, reactions and plan.
yet somehow he's got no idea what to do.

odd. very, very odd

This thread is exploding. I stay away for 20 hours and 5 more pages pop up of arguing.

I don't know. I said 50 pages ago, that the danger (without weather helping) is a "normal" flu season of 60 million people infected over the next 6 months.

The feedback I am hearing is that if 60 million people got this over the next 6 months, there will be WAY too many people needing extreme medical care (i.e. beds and ventilators) for our healthcare infrastructure to handle. Then we get into rationing, which scares the **** out of me.

My mother in law is fighting breast cancer right now. She is 73. Had a mastectomy in January and just now started up chemotherapy. Lost all her hair after one dose.

I mean, in our household, our whole focus is making sure she doesn't get it. But of course she still has to go for chemo treatments but other than that, house arrest.

My wife is a paraprofessional school teacher/helper. She and the kids have been off now for a week. She is still getting paid (although her salary is small, it provides health care).

I work in heavy/civil construction (in an office) and we are open, so I am very fortunate to be getting paychecks (good ones). It is a small, family owned business with 100 employees of which only about 15 are in an office. Half of them are now working at home. So I commute to an office with only 6-7 people in it now. I basically go into my office and hole up on the computer. Not a ton of interaction so I feel relatively safe, but I am very depending that the other 6-7 people here in the office are doing things correctly and staying safe.

That's part of the danger. Even if you LIMIT your interaction with people, you are very dependent that they are being as safe as you. If any piece breaks down, the virus can spread even among "safe acting" folks.

We stopped the kids from playing with the neighbors kids after their dad decided to go to the gym. My wife felt that was stupid, so "no more contact with them" although that might change in the next week or two if they shape up.

My daughter does have a congenital heart defect which could make her more "high risk" but thankfully this disease seems okay with the young. Again, it's all to prevent it somehow getting to my mother-in-law.

I'm very fortunate that it seems my company, that does heavy/highway work, will stay open because DELDOT and MDSHA are continuing construction and bidding activities. Even private construction seems to be continuing in some degree.

Abysmal? I referred to what numerous health and government officials speculated and welcomed people to contest it. If you can find instances where other officials have declared such speculation to be absolutely baseless, I will certainly welcome that as I haven’t seen it. And you’re cherry-picking Fauci. He’s made his share of alarming statements in the past couple weeks as well.

It's so obvious that the board libtards are rooting for this to be a disaster. They can't contain themselves. TDS is a hell of a thing.

It's like Tony Burton's character told Apollo in Rocky 2 in trying to steer him away from giving Balboa a rematch:

"I saw you beat that man like l never saw a man get beat before...and he kept coming at you. We don't need him in our lives, baby."

I mean, how much more can the Ministry of Propaganda and Six Ways to Sunday crowd throw at this POTUS?

Thank you for admitting this. It's a critical point I've had in debates elsewhere. Fauci has been all over the map at times with his statements, predictions, etc. He's not been a rock-solid point of reference.

I am shocked. Nothing on the Democrats blocking the passage of the CARE act?

BTW, could Liberals please STOP with this nonsense that Republicans are anti-healthcare? In a DESPERATE time when this act needed to pass, DemonRats blocked it. Why? Couldn't staple all their pork provisions to the bill (like funding abortion etc) so they backed out at the 13th hour. **** Democrats. Pure evil.

Futures markets dropped 5%.

Even the New York Times slammed the Dems:

ETwcG_VXkAAQ6l3

https://www.nationalreview.com/news/senate-democrats-block-massive-coronavirus-stimulus-bill/

"Democrats argue that the Republican stimulus bill favors corporations over working Americans, citing the $75 billion that would be allocated to bail out distressed companies, particularly in the travel in hospitality industries. Republicans have responded by slamming Democrats for standing in the way of the swift action needed to prevent more Americans from losing their jobs."

Even Mitt ******* Romney couldn't hold his tongue:
"Nothing in the Senate has shocked me, until today. Standing in the way of a critically needed rescue package is irresponsible and reckless. Dems say not enough money to states: nearly $200 billion isn’t chump change. Hospitals get at least $75 billion. As for funds for companies, it’s to keep entities that employ millions of Americans from folding—it’s to save jobs. Keep this up a little longer and we will go from social distancing to social destruction."

Trump just released 3 quarters of a million of his miracle drug to New York... liberals are melting down because they are “circumventing fda procedures”... so wait... they bitched at him for following cdc guidelines for testing, but are also made at him for skipping the fda rules for a cure that is already approved and is IN USE for this in the countries that have gotten it under control?

Sounds like bitching forcthe sake of bitching to me...

Pretty bad when even Pierre Dilecto can see what's going on. Maybe the earthquake knocking the trumpet out of the Angel Moroni's hand was an epiphany for Mitt of Tarsus.

These people are sick. Double pun intended.

Seventy five billion dollars is an average of over 12 million dollars per hospital in the usa... some of which are specialized and arent going to deal with this so wont be eligible for the funds... every hospital that needs it will get 15 to 20 million dollars...

I agree with some of the dems positions but every one of them was already agreed to in principle and the details were left to be ironed out at a later date after the vote

This was 100% political grandstanding
