The Coronavirus thread

The Governor of New Jersey said in an interview with Tucker Carlson that he intended to keep the state closed until no new cases were presenting. Minutes later, when asked how long he thought it might be before the virus died down enough to present no new cases, he projected "The end of 2021."

His words. He is inclined to keep New Jersey closed until January 2022. There won't BE a New Jersey in January 2022.

Murphy is a flat out idiot . Being in NJ the odds I have already come in contact with the Rona are a hell of alot greater than the odds I haven't as I bet is the case for most in this state..Just the fact he would state that he would even consider keeping us locked down till the end of 2021..shows what a complete and udder idiot he is.

If restrictions are lifted NOW as OFTB, you, TIM, Steeltime and the protestors are demanding.

“As soon as they step outside”. Is that how the 800k cases happened? Offer a well thought reason that cases wouldn’t escalate? What changed in the last three weeks? A vaccine? Widespread access to testing? Increased ability to trace outbreaks?

Your frustration with the shutdown has nothing to do with our ability to mitigate the spread absent of existing measures.

Trog you know I have butted heads with some on this as well, BUT, if it is true that countrywide the virus is much more widespread than we guessed, it would be evidence of two things.
One we have acquired more herd immunity progress than previously thought and two it will not overwhelm our system as quickly as was feared. As long as we have enough PPE coming for our healthcare workers and maintain social distancing and more important go hygienic practices we should not see a big spike in cases that overwhelm us. That was my biggest fear all along and as long as it is in hand we need to start opening everywhere we can safely. Safely doesn't mean with zero risk as that is impossible but with reasonable mitigation of risks while allowing for the maximum freedoms possible.

ah, Dimly, you again avoided the direct question.

When do you think restrictions should be lifted? Give a precise date.

Am I the only one who is sick of the media lauding grocery store workers and food service workers as heroes?

The idea of a "hero" has definitely gotten watered down since WW2. Never a big fan of "brave" golf shots either.

No doubt. Operating a cash register and doling out stew like my grade school lunch lady are not chores I would describe as "heroic." Another report I saw last night described transit workers as "heroic" because they are around a lot of people, many of whom may be ill.

So Ralph Kramden is now a hero? Yeah, no.

What really grinds my gears is when they start talking about giving some kind of bonus or reward money for all the "heros" putting their lives on the line by continuing to work. Really? They get to work and earn a paycheck while countless others have $0 coming in? They are just lucky when the government was picking winners and losers they came out on top.

I don't get a bonus for being an "essential".

I can't call myself a hero though, because I don't work at a grocery store.

I'm just happy I haven't been furloughed.

I work part time at a store considered essential. I am not a hero. With no customers coming in, I get paid to stand around and talk, basically.. am I glad to have that job? Yes. Do I feel bad for doing nothing and getting paid? Yes. Am I heroic and do i expect hazard pay and bonuses? No.

Lol....DeBlasios social distancing snitch tipline had to be shut down due to a high volume of dick pics, hitler memes and middle finger pics.

That is freaking awesome.

Saw the thing on Tucker last night and sent in a mock "report." The dumbshits who came up with the idea deserved it. The best "report" I encountered was this:

That is also me, whether anyone believes it or not. I fear the thing. I fear big Government. I fear not being able to feed my family.

Choices have to be made. Hard ones.

Please explain how increased testing or tracking will prevent infections. All that would do is who is tell us who is already infected and how they possibly got infected. If they've come into contact with the virus in the past 14 days, then they haven't been quarantined, so by the time they test positive they would/could have infected too many people to trace. its all nonsense.

A vaccine? You want to keep this going until there is a vaccine? You wait in the house for the next 10-12 months, some of us have **** to do. By the way, we're not sending you any more money.

If you're old or sick (or young and too much of a *****, ie: Liberal), stay home and wait for us healthy folks to spread the immunity.

Healthcare is SLAMMED. Soooo

Tower Health will begin furloughing about 1,000 full time employees, the health system announced Tuesday.

The decision is in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health system. Employees impacted by the decision work in a range of support, administrative and technical areas.

As a result of the pandemic, Tower Health suspended nonurgent and elective services; closed many outpatient facilities, departments and clinics; and postponed many internal projects to allocate resources to response to patient and community needs related to the virus.

40% Say Immediate Family Member Out of Work Thanks to Coronavirus

Financial anxiety over the coronavirus has eased slightly, even as more Americans report a close family member out of work.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 40% of American Adults now say they or someone in their immediate family has lost their job because of the coronavirus outbreak. That’s up from 32% a month ago.

The survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted April 16 and 19, 2020 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

Again, stay at home....

3 million Americans are not paying their mortgages right now

The number of Americans struggling to pay their mortgages has skyrocketed as the economy reels from the coronavirus pandemic, with nearly 3 million Americans behind by at least one month on their mortgage payments in the week ending April 12, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Nearly 6% of all mortgages were in forbearance, the industry term for being behind on payments. The week before, 3.7% of home loans were past due by at least a month. The first week of March, just 0.25% of such loans were past due by a month.

This high a figure on a nationwide level is unprecedented, said Mike Fratantoni, MBA's chief economist.

"You might have seen this high of a share in Houston after Hurricane Harvey, but it was always a local phenomenon," he said. "What's different this time is it's national. To have 6% of mortgage loans in forbeareance, that's about 3 million homeowners saying they can't make their mortgage payments due to COVID-19."

Fratantoni expects that number to keep rising, citing an additional 1.8% of homeowners who called banks to request forbearance last week.

"As we get to the time when May payments are due, I expect to see those numbers going up again," he said. "We are hopeful that, now that some of the stimulus payents are arriving and unemployment benefits are expanded, that can provide some cushion to keep these numbers from going higher too fast."

More than 22 million Americans have filed for jobless benefits in the past month, and homeowners are taking advantage of a provision in the CARES Act that bars eviction of homeowners whose mortgages are backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. The law also lets homeowners ask for their payments to be reduced or deferred for 12 months with no penalties.

More than 8.2% of mortgages backed by Ginnie Mae were in forbearance, according to the MBA survey, compared with 4.64% of mortgages backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The CARES Act does not protect mortgages that are not backed by the government, which make up about half of all mortgages nationwide.
