Orwell was a classic liberal and finished his masterpiece in 1948 (juxtaposed the last two digits for the title). He wrote the book as a warning to what he saw occurring in the Soviet Union, and as a counterpoint to the burgeoning socialist mindset in the UK. If you have not read the book or have not read it recently, I STRONGLY encourage you to do so.
The line SIL cited is stunning in its accuracy, simplicity and depth. The process took a lot longer than Orwell feared, but he directly predicted exactly what we are seeing today: tearing down monuments that celebrate America's history, casting heroes as villains and villains as heroes, renaming buildings and streets, destroying great icons of Western art and literature, elevating rot and garbage as "art," and endlessly remaking everything - art, science, genders, marriage, religion, love, literature - into some grotesque parody that supports the vile, dishonest, corrupt millionaires whose only job seems to be destroying America to make themselves rich.
