Holy cringe Batman!
Orwell was a classic liberal and finished his masterpiece in 1948 (juxtaposed the last two digits for the title). He wrote the book as a warning to what he saw occurring in the Soviet Union, and as a counterpoint to the burgeoning socialist mindset in the UK. If you have not read the book or have not read it recently, I STRONGLY encourage you to do so.
The line SIL cited is stunning in its accuracy, simplicity and depth. The process took a lot longer than Orwell feared, but he directly predicted exactly what we are seeing today: tearing down monuments that celebrate America's history, casting heroes as villains and villains as heroes, renaming buildings and streets, destroying great icons of Western art and literature, elevating rot and garbage as "art," and endlessly remaking everything - art, science, genders, marriage, religion, love, literature - into some grotesque parody that supports the vile, dishonest, corrupt millionaires whose only job seems to be destroying America to make themselves rich.
Holy cringe Batman!
It's been a long time, but Animal Farm is a must-read as well. Even if it's just Cliff's notes version or on audiobook. So relevant to what's happening today as well, about farm animals who revolt against their human owner, thinking they're going to create a utopia where everyone's 'equal'. They end up eating themselves and the farm ends up in total squalor, eventually under the dictatorship of one of the animals, a damn pig.
BTW, there's a character in the book named Benjamin, the Donkey. Wise beyond his years (and quite the looker they say), he was the most all-knowing of the group. Thems just the facts of the book.
There were several books written during the early to mid 20th century that conveyed a tyrannical big brother or the fall of the American culture because of technology. If you haven't read The Veldt by Bradbury you should. It's a short story warning people about the nature of luxury and technology. Even some songs like "The sound of silence" by Simon and Garfunkel have a similar warning. BTW if you haven't seen the cover song by Disturbed you're missing out. Great video and it express more passion than the original IMHO.
Yes, I've seen the live version. David was actually sick when he was on Conan. Still gives me chills when I watch it. Sadly I'm not sure how many people actually know what the song is about. I've watched some "reaction" videos and the people love the song but have no concept of what it is really saying. It's like watching a dog trying to contemplate algebraic topology.Did you ever see the live version on Conan O'Brien? Chills.
And I've heard of a couple, similar to the book you mentioned, and some recent ones like William of Ockham and The Path to Tyranny (I think that's the title).

The ratings of CNN’s “Reliable Sources” plunged to their lowest level of the year this weekend, even as host Brian Stelter continues to dedicate every episode to criticizing the credibility of Fox News.
In all, his show has lost 72% of its viewers since its high point on January 10.
The new nadir came one week after Stelter all but begged White House spokesperson Jen Psaki to tell him how his network could better conform its coverage to the Biden administration’s talking points.
The latest episode of Stelter’s show failed to attract 1 million viewers for the 11th week in a row. A mere 752,000 total viewers tuned in to watch Stelter critique the media — usually heavily focused on the more successful Fox News — on Sunday. That’s down from a peak of 2.7 million viewers following the January 6 Capitol riot. … Stelter’s numbers look worse when measured by audience members who belong to advertisers’ most coveted demographic, the 25-to-54-year-old viewer. Only 129,000 people among that cash-rich cohort watched.
He knows it's the latter. We all know it's the latter.
They are stupid and corrupt. He knows it's the latter. We all know it's the latter.
Check that, those who think it's the ladder, actually think it's the former, or the first thing he said.
Exactly. I take, "all of the above," Vladimir. They are stupid and corrupt.
S & G are very high pitched soft singers. It was really the only way for them to sing it. Draiman made it his own (with the help of the drummer who told him not to make it a hard aggressive song like they generally do). His version is more clear and powerful. The clear understanding is that people aren't communicating. They talk but don't listen and hear but aren't paying attention to the words of others. The neon god is the T.V. The song is actually more apropos today than it was in 63'. It's a great song but Draiman's version is so much better and conveys the spirit of the song better IMHO.The technique + the passion/soul = incredible. And how he did that vocal fry so effortlessly, also incredible. As for the meaning, yeah, it's a bit darker & deeper than I think some realize - but when Draiman did it, I think it helped a little with the message. Meaning IMO, Simon & Garfunkel's version is great, but it's a little confusing (I guess) when it sounds so pleasing to the ears.
I remember someone on a reaction video (who I think got it) that said S&G were warning us, while Draiman was more just pissed/raged about it
Almost all the institutions of government are corrupt. The FBI and DOJ are just the tip of the iceberg. There are entire agencies that should be abolished as well.We can add Faking Bogus Investigations and the DOJ to the enemy of the people list.

I like your interpretation but I interpreted it as being silenced and all the noise it takes to effectively make it happen.S & G are very high pitched soft singers.
