if they hire Marrone, nothing will change. he's nothing more than another no name typical browns coach. Wont have the stones to push the owners to win. I want Tom Coughlin all day long if Im a clowns fan
 
Coughlin would be a great fit there. Quite why he'd accept it though I have no idea.
 
I wonder how many of the posters here are constant bitchers about the Steeler organization, FO, and coaching?
 
I just heard that the Clowns are going to hire a HC first then a GM. This may be the most incompetent,dysfunctional team in the history of professional sports. Although you can hardly call them a professional sports team. Maybe the strategy is a 5 year tank (to go along with their present 17 year tank) to accumulate first overall draft picks.

What difference does it make? The Steelers have a franchise QB and a stable organization. There is no reason they aren't contending every year. The clowns are a clusterfuck and have no business in the NFL at all. But they have nothing to do with the Steelers other than giving them 2 easy wins a year.

I think putting a lawyer in charge of player personnel until they hire a new GM (after a HC) and having the owner's wife on the search committee for the new HC and GM just might do the trick.

I thought Jones was smarter than that. But hey, he likes to run his freak show there in Dallas. Anything is possible.
 
Good Lord....Browns owner Jimmy Haslams wife Dee is on the 4 person committee to find a new head coach.

I wouldn't offer anything more than a 4th for Johnny Headache. CLE should be happy with that. Jerry is an idiot, so he may overpay.
 
For those that don't know...the Brown's committee to find a new coach consist of a lawyer, a business man, the business mans wife and a guy in charge of football ops that was most recently running the Jacksonville Housing Authority in 2012 (true story).

You can't make this stuff up.

I sat next to a Cleveland fan in a bar yesterday. Nice guy, totally deflated as a Fan. He knew the Browns had no chance, and said you have no idea what a playoff game would mean to a Browns fan. As Cowher used to say, that puts things in perspective.
 
Too bad there's not a corporate "headhunter" trying to poach Tomlin from the Steelers.

I watched the post game presser for Pettine, and I have to say, the Browns were stupid to dump him. He cared for his players. He didn't throw them under the bus. He praised their effort and the young core of players that were doing some good things. The guy had a passion for his team and the city of Cleveland. He was not the problem. I wouldn't be surprised if he succeeds as a head coach elsewhere.

I also watched that the hiring committee, as mentioned above, is made up of 4 people without football backgrounds in their previous jobs. This is a ******* circus in cleveland. They have zero chance of getting the football operations part right. Not only do they lack experience, but they want to hire the HC before the ******* GM, because they want the coach to help with the GM's hiring? WTF is that about? The coach is in charge of the team, the GM is in charge of the roster and personnel moves. I want my GM hired first, each and every time. I never want to be in a position where the GM feels he can't make a call over the HC. The GM and the ownership should be tightest. The GM and the Coach need to work together, but friendship is not necessary. For a GM to have to second guess his duties because a HC holds some degree of influence over him, is non-productive.

We will have another Haslet presser in 3-4 years about rebuilding in Cleveland when they fire this round of hires. That is if Haslet is still out of jail...

He was part of the decision to pick Johnny Rehab when there was all kinds of red flags. He bears some responsibility.
 
Farmer was fired as GM as well, even though he NEVER had a chance to shape the staff in his own image. Remember, Pettine was hired as a coach before Farmer was hired as a GM... so Farmer was fired after only two years even though he was never in a position to actually do his job. Now Cleveland is going to repeat that mistake, yet again.

Except this time, I think it's going to be even worse. From what I'm hearing in reports, Sashi Brown is the GM in every way but name. He is going to go out and find the new coach. Then the new coach and Sashi Brown will work together to find the next GM. However, the next GM will fall organizationally under Brown, and will take his direction from Brown, while the new head coach will report directly to Haslam.

So you'll have a GM, who's not really a GM, who will take his direction from the lawyer analytics guy, and who has no authority over the coach who hired him, and a head coach who won't answer directly to the GM or the analytics guy, but to the owner directly. You can't make this stuff up.

With as many coaching positions that are projected to be open this year, if you were any kind of legitimate coaching prospect would you even want to go anywhere near this dumpster fire of a team?

If he was available he'd be the first choice for almost every vacancy. Glad I'm not in that half.
