There are in fact gas shortages. Period. It's not an argument.

The cause is irrelevant. Whether the middle east oil fields were bombed, or all of OPECs tankers were sunk, or our gas station pumps were hacked, or aliens destroyed our gas stations, or hackers prevented pipelines pushing oil down the line is the cause, it does not change the fact that gas was not available at the pumps.

That is a shortage.

In 1978 and 1979, there wasn't a "gas shortage" by your definition either. An embargo kept the oil from getting to our refineries which led to gas not being available at the pumps.

Which...is...still...a...shortage.

So weird. I'm in MD. I went to get gas today while running errands. Went to an Exxon. EVERY pump said NO GAS except one where there was a line.

Went to a Gulf at a 7-11, found an open pump, get out...tiny sign says NO GAS. Found one that had gas.

There was a cyber security expert i saw on tv today who seemed very knowledgeable and reasonable. He said there were 3 steps Biden could take. Executive order to make it illegal to pay ransoms. Have a task force set up for quick restoration in case something like a hospital gets hit. Third one was fry the hackers PCs / network. He said it is simple to do and just need the go ahead.

The host added a 4th which was push Putin. The guy said Putin has the power to stop the attacks. He also believes some behind the scenes stuff was going on because the dark side and a few other hackers in russia kinda disappeared on the web.

To be fair, it is a Corporate problem but it's one of the reasons that Infraguard was set up. I've been a member of this group in the past and we, as corporate IT professionals interface with the FBI cyber teams and discuss trends and share what we're seeing with one another. Ransomware isn't new by any means and they should have had protections in place, including Disaster Recovery (Off line backups or Geo Region failover).

Where Sleepy Joe is wrong, is that the government should be auditing key businesses such as this one to ensure that all protections are in place. Audits can be automated and the infrastructure monitored 24/7. Time to be a leader and he pushes it off. We are doomed with this asshat.

There is a difference in oversight of critical assets and over-reaching regulations that give government too much power. The Government's key function is to provide security and in this case, it failed. Government policy isn't Binary, anarchy versus tyranny, there needs to be a balance but the issue with your party is that it want's Marxist control and that is NOT what I'm supporting with my statement.

National security IS something the government should be involved in. What kind of light bulb I use, how much water my toilet flushes, the gas mileage my car gets, and wearing facemasks, not so much.
About two years ago the local hospital system in my area had their computers hacked and held for ransom too. That could kill people.

For whatever it's worth, the DarkSide hacker group seems to have been shut down. There have been varying reports on this, that they lost their accounts & IT infrastructure. I'm sure they'll reconvene and be back under a different name. But it does seem something unseen went down right around the time they were paid the randsom.
