Federal agency pegs $4M for Arctic refuge infrastructure

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Interior Department plans to spend $4 million in the section of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge where petroleum drilling may be allowed.

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke in a release Thursday said the spending will be part of nearly $5.9 million approved in Alaska for critical U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service infrastructure.

The wilderness area has little infrastructure. The department says money will be spent to improve existing facilities, construct outbuildings and support "heightened levels of activity."

The Trump administration in April announced a 60-day environmental review for a refuge lease sale.

Ontario’s next premier, Doug Ford

Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford capped an improbable rise to power Thursday, winning the Ontario election with a majority government and banishing Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals into political oblivion after almost 15 years in office.

“This is incredible. My friends, this victory belongs to you. Tonight the people of Ontario have spoken. You have come together around one common vision of Ontario,” Ford, 53, told cheering supporters in Etobicoke.

Wynne’s party, in power since her predecessor Dalton McGuinty defeated the Tories in 2003, was reduced to a tiny rump, falling short of the eight seats required for official status in the legislature.

Ontario’s first female premier, who succeeded McGuinty in February 2013, took the unusual step of conceding defeat last Saturday in a desperate attempt to salvage Liberal seats.“ This is a difficult night,” said Wynne, 65, who is stepping down as Liberal leader

Italy PM: President Trump Is Right, ‘Russia Should Be Back in G8

“I am in agreement with President Trump,” Mr. Conte tweeted Friday. “Russia should reenter the G8. It is in everyone’s best interests.”

Conte’s comment followed remarks by President Trump earlier on Friday regarding Russia’s role in the group of leading industrialized nations (G7).

“With that being said, Russia should be in this meeting,” Trump said of the G7 summit, which begins Friday in Quebec. “Why are we having a meeting without Russia being in the meeting?”

“Whether you like it or not, and it may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run,” Trump said. “And in the G-7, which used be the G-8, they threw Russia out. They should let Russia come back in because we should have Russia at the negotiating table.”

Obama and U.S. allies ousted Russia from the G8 in March of 2014

President Trump says he is likely to support ending federal ban on marijuana

President Trump said he likely will support a congressional effort to end the federal ban on marijuana, a major step that would reshape the pot industry and end the threat of a Justice Department crackdown.

Trump’s remarks put him sharply at odds with Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions on the issue. The bill in question, pushed by a bipartisan coalition, would allow states to go forward with legalization unencumbered by threats of federal prosecution.

Trump made his comments to a gaggle of reporters Friday morning just before he boarded a helicopter on his way to the G-7 summit in Canada. His remarks came the day after the bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed their measure.

One of the lead sponsors is Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who is aligned with Trump on several issues but recently has tangled with the administration over the Justice Department’s threatened crackdowns on marijuana.

“I support Sen. Gardner,” Trump said when asked about the bill. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”

Austrian Chancellor Kicks Out Imams and Shuts Down Mosques

On Friday, the Austrian government announced that it plans to close down seven mosques and potentially expel about 60 imams from the country.

The announcement, which was made by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, is rooted in a 2015 law that requires Muslim organizations to express a “positive fundamental view towards [the] state and society” of Austria, and bans foreign funding of religious institutions.

“Political Islam’s parallel societies and radicalizing tendencies have no place in our country,” said Kurz at a press conference.

The coalition government, led by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, said that this is "just the beginning" of its fight against what it sees as "radical Islam," Reuters reported on Friday.

House GOP blocks Obama-era rules on cost of climate change

The House GOP on Friday took a step forward in reining in the Obama administration's method of assessing the cost of carbon dioxide pollution when developing regulations.

The House voted 212-201, along party lines, to include a rider blocking the use of the climate change cost metric to an energy and water spending bill.

The amendment offered by Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert bars any and all funds from being used under the bill to "prepare, propose, or promulgate any regulation that relies on the Social Carbon analysis" devised under the Obama administration on how to value the cost of carbo

Repealing the Clean Power Plan, and other parts of Obama's climate action plan, is central to President Trump's deregulatory strategy to cut costs and expand the economy.

"Many have complained that the previous administration inflated the benefits and underestimated the costs of its regulations through questionable cost-benefit analysis," Pruitt said. "This action is the next step toward providing clarity and real-world accuracy with respect to the impact of the agency's decisions on the economy and the regulated community

President Trump (at G7): America Will No Longer Be the ‘Piggy Bank that Everyone is Robbing’

“We’re like the piggy bank that everybody’s robbing and that ends,” Trump said.

Trump praised the G7 nations for what he described as their efforts to “take advantage” of weak U.S. leadership

“I blame our leaders and I congratulate leaders of other countries for taking advantage of our leaders,” Trump said. “It’s going to stop. Or we’ll stop trading with them. And that’s a very profitable answer, if we have to do it.”

Yeah, I'd have to agree Indy but his controversial methods will still need some refining. He sometimes reminds me of a high school outcast, the way he presents himself.

Kudlow: Trudeau ‘stabbed us in the back’

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow repeatedly accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of “betrayal” and saying he “stabbed us in the back” for standing up to President Donald Trump after the G-7 meeting.

Speaking hours after Trump ordered the U.S. not to endorse the G-7 communique, Kudlow slammed Trudeau for a “sophomoric play” in holding a press conference after the G-7 meetings and saying Canadians “will not be pushed around.” Soon afterward, Trump tweeted that the U.S. would not participate in the G-7 communique agreed to earlier on Saturday.

“He really kind of stabbed us in the back,” said Kudlow, the White House National Economic Council director, speaking on CNN‘s “State of the Union.“

Kudlow, who said he was in the bilateral meeting with Trudeau and Trump, said the two leaders “were getting along famously.”

“We were very close to making a deal with Canada on NAFTA, bilaterally perhaps, and then we leave and Trudeau pulls this sophomoric, political stunt for domestic consumption.”

Putin says G7 criticism is 'babbling,' happy to hold talks with US

Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed criticism of Moscow at the G7 meeting as “babbling” and confirmed he would be happy to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Speaking at a press conference in China following a regional summit Sunday, Putin refused to comment on the G7 final statement but said that its criticism of Russia’s “so-called destabilizing efforts” in the West was “unfounded,” and that “this creative babbling” by other world leaders had so far “led to nothing.”

Confirming previous reports that a U.S.-Russia summit could take place, possibly in Vienna, Putin said he would welcome a meeting with his U.S. counterpart and he shared Trump’s concern about the possibility of a new arms race.

Now why would he need to declare Flag Day is June 14? It's not like it hasn't already been Flag day for years.

Kim Jong Un commits to 'complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula'

SINGAPORE (AP) -- President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have signed a joint document in which they commit to working "toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."

The document signed by the leaders at their historic summit Tuesday also says they will join efforts "to build a lasting and stable peace regime" on the Korean Peninsula.

The document lays out four broad commitments. It says the sides "commit to establish new U.S.-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity."

And it says they will commit to recovering the remains of prisoners of war and those missing in action.
