The Olympics, how much do they matter?

I am liking the soccer matches in all honesty.
 
Women's beach volleyball is on now. All is good. The Olympics are great.

OK - got around to watching the opening ceremony, sound muted - I dvr EVERYTHING now, fast forward through all the commercials and anything I don't want to watch

Latvia, Poland and the Ukraine had the hottest chicks in their delegations, I think

NBC’s coverage of the opening ceremony for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on Friday scored a 16.5 rating in metered-market households, down 28 percent from London 2012 and marking the lowest overnight number since Barcelona 1992

So far the only there's been is in bicycling - two huge crashes in both men's and women's going downhill towards the finish with Gold in sight

The wife and I were watching when that happened and we both said, "Oooh, ****!"
 
I have been watching in the evening and usually try and catch my cousin swim. Beach Volleyball has been entertaining.

What the **** are you talking about, he was afraid she was dead! - so was I, she's lucky to be alive and not crippled for life.


Reports on Dutch television said Van Vleuten was being kept in intensive care overnight after suffering three cracks in her spine and concussion.

I am now in the hospital with some injuries and fractures, but will be fine. Most of all super disappointed after best race of my career.

I was just joking that she probably flew off the edge and was already at Copacabana beach since they hadn't shown her for awhile. My entire family cringed as soon as she went down. But I still can't believe the American lost it in the final 200 meters.

It was cringeworthy. Just not used to seeing that stuff live
 
I've been actually watching more than I thought I would. That Katie Ledecci was absolutely dominant last night.
 
Lost interest in London games because the results were always out before evening broadcast.
This year with the finals in the evening, it is pretty interesting.
 
Other than the hysterical rooting for the US teams I find some of the games pretty interesting too - I just DVR everything and FF through all the commercials and commentary.
Can watch 4hr of coverage in about 45 minutes. I never watch live tee-vee.

wow - the US men suck at gym, hope the women show them up again

Our girls can swim pretty good, men too. We own the clean blue waters.

The Olympic committee should be ashamed of themselves to have games in a place where too much negative stuff surfacing.
