How can the head coach not assert his assets and recognize he was counting on:VERY TRUE Coolie, it all starts in the trenches both offense and defense. There is NO substitute for poor line play. You can only hide so much before it is out of control which is where we seem to be at. A new coach would not instantly fix the OL problem. The newbie Coach may change up the routine and get some spark but it's the actual players that make or break the OL.

How can the head coach not assert his assets and recognize he was counting on:
- a below the line LT in Chucks
- a 3rd round rookie to anchor the line, even if they valued him above rhe spot we are still talking about a rookie in a very difficult position
- a RT that hasn't started half a season due to injuries. Banner hasn't actually being a proven starter unfortunately.
- a Pro Bowl RG that was about to retire due to injuries and the coaches had not one clue
That was our Oline to protect a QB that has been more than 15 years in the league and should be better protected to give him a real chance to succeed given his current limitations. That falla on the coaching that didn't value talent correctly. If they knew this group wasn't enough they would have let it know to the FO to do their work at Free Agency. "Hey KC, our Oline sucks, pouncey retired, please bring a proven vet to anchor the group, a starting T to let the other two kids fight it out and let's also bring a couple of midrounders to develop correctly and not throw them to the fire and get the QB killed in the learning process.
They didn't see the 4th round LT as a starter, that was Chucks spot, banners injury changed that plan.FULLY agree Litos but I was trying to refer to the immediate and now.
also to add to your assessment I might add a 4th round LT rookie. Not much investment into the most important aspect of the game. OL was an after thought minus the fact Pouncy retired and Decastro injury waved to overcome. Still not an excuse as they choose to draft where and whom.
Definately Coach Tomlin is accountable to ALL THINGS you mention. I too can't believe what was done in the off season to think this season would be an improvement.
No matter what we say today won't change the fact of what we have currently. I think here is where the "NEW" coach would make the difference if inserted today, circumstances as is. He could immediately change practice habit and attitude with a no mess no off the hook type attitude. Talk to his assistant coaches, all of them and establish I am the chain of command, let the OC & DC do their job but I am the boss and here is my input. Players will know I'm the boos, I will help you / coach you (to my best and sub-coachs best to our ability) / be here to talk about anything personal or professional / establish physiclity and encourage it / other things as well. I would also implore the FO (colbert) to exhaust bringing in potential upgrades to OL / DBs / and anyone else I deem needed.
Although the players are grown men they are still adolesant in development. Social media would be near extinct while you are on my time. Player would be constantly questioned / shown / explained to / anything playbook, execution, footwork, diet, expectation etc etc while at the facility (not continuously but just in random).
That is how I think a new coach inserted into this environment right now could make a big difference.
I realize I don't know what the day to day is with Coach Tomlin but I also realize I see even the most basic things not executed during game day. I think it is the small details and consistency from staff that adds up and those things would make a difference.

Moore is still the better option at LT.Then why not put chukes at LT and play haeg?
