Final 4 QB Salary Cap Hits

2. Mahomes $36 million
18. Burrow $10 million
53. Hurts $1.6 million
80. Purdy $724 K (24. Lance $8 million, 16. Garrapolo $12 million)

Teams don't do well by overpaying "franchise" QBs.
Thats kind of a bullshit narrative… there are only a small handful of franchise qbs in the league to begin with… but like Purdy… the 49rs have over 20 million in cap space tied up in that position… they are just IR’d..
Looking back on the Super Bowl qb list, plenty of them were franchise qbs on their second or third contracts… or in bradys case like eighth lol..
Last year Matt stafford carried a 20 million dollar cap hit, by far the largest on the Rams.. they won.. this year his cap hit was half of that and they lost a lot.
The real problem comes when you overpay a non franchise qb franchise qb type money… aka Joe Flacco… that guy needs a really really good team around him to win…

Right now every team is going to “overpay” five or so guys, probably pay 15 or so average starter money and fill the roster out with guys getting less than 2 million dollars… you just better be damn sure those guys you are overpaying are serious playmakers and not just above average starters…

Action should enter that stage of super paid for good play and committed to a 5 year deal. IN 2 years, he will be hurt but still drawing on that committed deal, we all win !!!

Meh I don't put a lot of faith in Action Jackson in the playoffs. Not putting a lot of faith in him purposely sitting out. Don't put a lot of faith in him being a franchise QB. Writer is assuming a lot here. Seen that RB make his fair share of fumbles too.

Rats should let him go but not for anything he has done post injury. They should let him go because you win with a QB that scrambles to pass, not a RB that scrambles to run and occasionally throw a good pass.

Well "action " has been hurt for 10 games in the past two seasons. His body is already a train wreck at age 26. I agree with what you saying.

8 years… that’s typically how long these run first rbs playing qb last… guys like Mahomes, they eventually settle in as pocket passers… but jackson… once his reaction time goes and he loses a step… he is fish food

8 years sound about right but the more they run, the shorter the career.

Kordell / Randle / Griffith the 3rd are examples.

Kordell’s was kind of a special case though.

Why are you mentioning Mahomes? He's never been a run-first QB.

I know… im saying that guys like mahomes and elway who were mobile passers can convert into pocket passer later in their careers while the “RBs who can pass” really cant
Remember when Ben used to run?
