Tomlin had nothing to do with Arians Leaving

It's just crazy. It goes all the way back to the talk of LT's and how Denver would be lost without Clady. At least, he let that go, but why make the statement without even verifying that he, at least, played a couple of games during the season?

f you are going to comment that Tomlin would be a .500 coach without Ben and that Arians is a better coach, shouldn't you know what Arians record is without Palmer? If it is close to .500, maybe your point isn't so solid?

Or you could just argue that Arians is a good HC, although he left something to be desired as OC. Or, for the love of God, STOP saying what a great job he did in Indianapolis.

Polamalu's head...too big...BUST

Everyone must've forgot how ****** Arians offense was inside the red zone. Field Goal after field goal after field goal. First and goal? Ya let's run it.. second Down?? Sweep right.. third down? Pass incomplete and kick.. repeat.

In all honesty, I believe that "run, run, incomplete" mode was forced on him. Rooney wanted more run, run, run, and that was his way of "complying" with it.

It wasn't a good match.

BA lives to pass. Although, as a head coach, he seems to value the rush a little more, even though he isn't loaded at RB in AZ.

(1917 yards rushing, 4.2 apc, Steelers only rushed for 1724.)

Funny that BA's team out rushed the Steelers.

It wasn't that he wanted them to run the ball more, but rather more effectively.

"We have to get back to being able to run the football when we need to run the football, and being able to run more consistently than we have in the past season," Rooney said.

Yah, Rooney was certainly talking about every single goal line situation.

Let's not forget the sweep left with Ben against JAX in the playoffs..

You know when people just go through the motions when they are forced to do something they don't want to do?

That's what our rushing game looked like under BA.

Same with Ben when forced to throw endless bubble screens.

Tomlin promised he would "get him his bread" and then called and said no contract offer at all.

Obviously, it wasn't MT's call.

I don't think you do either, but I think a few posters certainly have rose colored glasses when it comes to Tomlin.

The facts are Tomlin inherited a stacked super bowl team with veteran leadership, a franchise QB in his prime, and a talented staff. He also has the most patient owner in the NFL, who hired him in a rule named for himself.

Is there a more comfortable landing spot for any head coach?

Tomlin won one super bowl with Cowher's players and staff. Switzer did the same.

I posted a poll to predict the Steelers 2016 record. Most fans think we will be 12-4! Those are the expectations. Every year it seems the Steelers underachieved a bit by our expectations. Coaching and GM moves are reasons as to why.

HBO Real Sports has a current profile on Bruce Arians. I'm thinking many Tomlin fans, who also might be liberal when it comes to politics, or for him due to their ethnicity will enjoy it.

Bruce was a PA boy who grew up in a black neighborhood during a time of troubled race relations of the 60's and gangs. Bruce's ability to work with troubled black players in the NFL ( A weakness of Tomlin ) is amazing. His own players will tell you that. You'll have to watch the Real Sports Segment. I don't want to spoil it for you. The Cardinals drafted DT Robert Nkemdiche, a player I wanted no part of early due to his shady background, but I do think he went to the right team.

As for Tomlin the man, he didn't fight to keep Bruce Arians and his short explanation that I can't get you a new contract without offering the truth or details makes me think a bit less of him.

I think some posters wear glasses, much darker than our coach wears, that they can't see anything positive Tomlin does.

I doubt a 5th year QB is in his "prime", personally I feel Ben is in his prime now and has been for 2 years.

Seifert is a better comparison to Tomlin. Switz only won 1 playoff game after his SB win.

You really came around on BA after he left the team. IIRC, you couldn't wait to kick him off the team in 2010...

What is there to cover?? Pretty sure this thread was started as a knock against Tomlin. Now it's he did fire and he was stupid for doing so SMH. The usual

Outside of having a few just admit Steelers say Mike Tomlin made the decision to fire Bruce Arians, not much at all unless you want to give Arians credit after he left the team. He worked with Peyton Manning, Ben, and Luck.

I just think Tomlin failed to man up and tell Arians the truth about letting him go.

So what I don't get is, if it wasn't MT decision, why do the Arians' (obvious joke there but seriously, Mr & Mrs) have it out for him?

IDK, it appears obvious to me.

Mike told him he was gonna "get him his bread" and then came back and said he can't even get him a new contract. It wasn't MT's call. He wanted him back, and Rooneys said no dice.

They were pissed at him for never figuring out how to run the ball even to a so so degree. It pissed Art off.

Some have suggested that they may have felt MT could have fought harder to keep BA. Like, "If he is gone so am I" sort of thing.

Whether or not that is reasonable, I do not know.

Even Shades knew that The Bruce wasn't THAT good.

This thread.... espn..... the nfl channel..... sports talk radio ... everyone is talking about this all of a sudden. who cares? who cares.... who cares.... everyone is happy Bruce is a successful head coach Tomlin got paid. todd haley is successful. ben is setting records........ so who really cares? to paraphrase Hildabeast at this point what does it matter.......

Your right, it REALLY doesn't matter.........UNLESS your Bruce Arians crying in pity or ESPN trying to shock jock the world.

Salute the nation

Not good enough to stake his own job for him anyways.

As I recall it was strongly speculated at the time that Shades told the Rooneys he wanted to keep The Bruce and they said "Okay but if the offense doesn't get better, it's your *** too." At which point he rethought his commitment to hitching his wagon with the $100 million QB to The Bruce.

Ben has said he still talks to The Bruce every week. Guaranteed when Ben decides to hang 'em up, I don't care if he's 45, there WILL be an offer from Arizona.

So if Tomlin fired Bruce does he get credit for hiring Haley and some credit for this offense. Or since its a successful offense it's all Haley and the Rooney's made the hire for him?

I don't think the ultimate decision in either case was up to Coach Shades.

*EDIT*
It wouldn't be the first time. NFL teams generally change assistants a lot. I don't think Dick Hoak was the RB coach from 1968 to 2007 just because he was good-looking.

Tomlin didn't fire Bruce nor did he hire Haley.

That's kind of the main point of this.

Of course and if the defense returns to its old glory it's all Butler and the Rooney's made that hire too

Tomlin hired Butler just like he hired Dick....LOL

Arians posted good numbers while OC. With the players he had, should have been great. Ben was getting killed and his situational callings were terrible. See Arizona.
