Tomlin had nothing to do with Arians Leaving

None of Cowher's assistants amounted to much. Tomlin is 1 for 1...

So if Tomlin fired Bruce does he get credit for hiring Haley and some credit for this offense. Or since its a successful offense it's all Haley and the Rooney's made the hire for him?

Haley's father Dick played college in Pittsburgh and was Director of Player Personnel for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1971–1990 candidate.

I think the family ties had something to do with the hire

His son Todd did not play football in college, he went to the University of Florida to play golf. As a head coach, the players hated Todd Haley in Kansas City.

I think he's adequate as an OC and took two years to figure out our strengths.

When Ben went down, Haley looked lost at sea.

could have had something to do with the huge drop off between Ben and Landry.................

Why leave Bell on the sidelines on 3rd down when Ben is out? That could have something to do with it too. Haley has his share of bone-headed calls, we just quickly forget them if we win or as time passes.

Ben covers for him. Haley is an average jockey on a championship grade race horse.

he's better than many out there and he finally made Ben understand he had to play the short pass if he wanted to be succesful And healthy

Steelers have a championship caliber O, and Haley deserves his share of the credit for improving this unit.

As a O coordinator he is easily better than average. But you go ahead and continue to point to a play here and a play there to think that justifies your stance.

(It doesn't)

The Bruce with and without Palmer in 2014...

2014 Carson played 6 games. They won all 6, averaging over 25 ppg. They finished 11-5 that year. That leaves 5-5 without Palmer. In those 10 games, they averaged 15.5 ppg. They scored more 20 or more points 3 times out of those 10 games.

The teams they beat? 6-10 giants, 8-8 49ers, 11-5 Lions, 9-7 Chiefs, 6-10 Rams. they lost to 12-4 Broncos, 12-4 Seahawks (x2) and 6-10 Falcons and 8-8 49ers.

What is Arians without Carson?

The only problem is this is not happening. Ben had a record amount of pass attempts in 2015, and got hurt in 2016. The old news that Haley was brought in here to protect Ben is bunk. Ben's pass attempts are up and so is his injury time.

I don't see Ben throwing less deep balls when Bryant is playing. What Haley has that Airans did not is a peak Brown, and a Bell for shorter pass options.

Obviously you missed the obvious sarcasm of my post

Then proceeded to post a whole bunch of miscellaneous stuff that have nothing to do with anything.

Didn't Haley beat Arians with a backup QB last year with his team having the superior defense.. His offense going against our defense.

Such a complicated issue boiled down to one stat "# games missed"

A good indication of how a QB might get hurt is to look at sacks per pass attempted. Another to add to that would be QB Hits, but I don't see that listed by QB. QB hits might be reasonably correlated with sacks, but might not.

So, let's look at Ben's sack totals over the last few years. I stopped at 2010 because we all know before that date it was Cowher's players and irrelevant. 2007-2010 might produce less of a difference, but also may be inappropriate due to player's etc. I think part of what you see in 2014 and 2015 is the solidification of the OL along with overall better players and experience than in 2010-2012. Presumably, the coaches ought to get some credit for O improvement...

I don't think it is a myth that the O has been changed and designed to protect Ben more. Whether this is more the result of him finally listening to the OC or more the result of a better OL could be up for debate. It could very well be that the OL has been playing better because Ben is where they expect him to be on more plays rather than who-the-****-knows-where-he-is and Ben is more likely to get rid of the ball?

Ben would be on a casket already if Arians was still here, check ark's sack chart. Believe whatever you want, the difference in the playcalling and Ben's commitment to the short passing is clearly obvious towards a more efficient offense and a less sacked Ben, go look for a 4 minutes tape to analyze it

Now that is some funny **** right there....

Only thing, the red zone scoring under Mrs. Haley's husband isn't a heck of a lot better than it was under The Bruce. This pisses me off.

Mike Tomlin Named Most Underrated Coach In NFL

BY ALEX KOZORA JUNE 29, 2016 AT 11:30 AM
NFL.com’s Brian Baldinger ranked his top three underrated coaches in the NFL and Mike Tomlin was ranked at the top. In this video on NFL.com, here’s his rationale.

“All the injuries he suffered last year. Maurkice Pouncey to Le’Veon Bell to all three quarterbacks at some time that got hurt. You look at all the injuries sustained, including Antonio Brown, and all they did was get to the Divisional Championship game in Denver and came close to winning that game. That man Mike Tomlin knows how to motivate players. Knows how to keep away from injuries and talking about them and never making excuses for his style of play.”

That may not be the most iron-clad, or even coherent (Divisional Championship?) explanation in the world but Steelers’ fans can probably relate to the sentiment. While Tomlin’s reputation is well-known around here, he’s not often talked about in league circles.

Heck, the Steelers themselves aren’t referred to often. Not a splashy team, not a huge media market, they’re just doing their thing out here in Western Pennsylvania. All Tomlin’s done is compete and win since coming Pittsburgh hired him in 2007, winning one Super Bowl and going to another.

His career winning percentage of .639 tops Bill Cowher (.623) and Chuck Noll (.556). Tomlin’s percentage is the 5th best for active, qualified coaches, and 21st all-time. If you’re curious, the best win percentage in NFL history belongs to Guy Chamberlin, who owns a .784 record from 1922-1927. He won four NFL titles, three with the Canton Bulldogs and one with the Frankford Yellow Jackets.

Tomlin’s coaching style, though divisive in moments, is liked by the majority. He’s someone his players love, the type of coach guys will run through a wall for. His confidence is unwavering, his “next man up” mentality not just words but a standard that you see on the field. That’s probably what Baldinger was getting at with all his injury comments.

Tomlin is also one of the league’s more aggressive coaches. His willingness to go for two could make him a pioneer in that regard and the Steelers seem certain to again lead the league in that category this season.

Finishing behind Tomlin was a former Steeler, Bruce Arians, at #2, and John Fox at #3 on Baldinger’s list.

Underrated? It always seems that Tomlin is ranked as a top 5 coach and the media LOVES Bruce Arians. Maybe Fox after Denver got rid of him, but I have a hard timing Tomlin and BA as "underrated."

This post is useless without pictures.

As I mentioned last season, pics of Mrs. Haley have been mostly scrubbed from the internets.

"Not a splashy team?" What games has this fool been watching. The Steelers can light up yards and scoring faster than any team out there. Not splashy?

They dropped 43, 45, 33, 30 (in Seattle), 34 (on the best D in the NFL). Not splashy? Compared to who? This dude has zero credibility after making that claim.

The Steelers are more "splashy" than any team I can think of. No, we don't have douche bags like Dez Bryant acting a fool, but that is a good thing.

Tomlin actually preaches splash splays................

Cheap and tired assertion. Coach fully explained the 4 minutes of tape was condensed video of play after play after play - not merely "4 minutes of video."

By you clumsily trying to offer intellectual dishonesty, it invalidates you across the board. Coach explained this in the context of logic and reason, and you try to pretend that he hadn't. Intellectual dishonesty.

It doesn't hurt that they have the best receiver, a top 2 RB and QB in the game either along with Harrison on defense.

well he can look for a condensed play by play 4 minutes tape of Ben before Haley and Ben after him. And then he might be able to see with his own eyes how our QB improved his decision making thanks to better playcalling and a different philosophy.

it's great that the media keeps their focus on the "splashy teams", those on the bigger markets and those that expend their whole cap on free agency because they can't build a team through the draft. The farther their lenses are away from the Steelers, the better
