Tomlin....he's driving a proud organization straight in to the ground.

Difficult to say because they interviewed so few people. Whiz had already left for AZ. They already knew Grimm. The only outside person I remember is Rivera. Best I remember they took 17 days between Cowher stepping down and Tomlin being announced. So take away the day he retired and the day they announced him means they spent 15 days looking... They spend more time trying to find their first draft pick every year than the coach. IMHO they wanted a minority coach. Rooney wasn't going to hire a white coach after spending a decade lecturing other teams to give more minorities job opportunities.

One other thing they may have been trying to do is get a guy they could mold into the coach they wanted. Tomlin's resume was thin and if one looks objectively still is. He might have had potential in the eyes of the Rooneys. They had an ideal situation to try the experiment ( no not the minority coach experiment ) the untried and undeveloped coach. He might have had additional appeal because of minority status or might not. They set him in place with a team one season from the super bowl a staff of experienced coaches that could groom him and help him develop. Right now there are three former head coaches on this team, plus MT. Last week he looked like he was finally starting to get it, this week he had that wtf look on his face as did most of the rest of the team. They have had a history of being unprepared on a short week and MT is continuing with no sign of improving.

The only things in his defense are the facts he did not fumble, throw behind receivers, get knocked on his back, forget to tackle, make bad calls from the officials possible and play with no energy or purpose. I am sure he had a hand in picking these guys and many of them are not good and some are bad. For example Jarvis Jones is improving, I saw three or four decent plays from him. He has now gone from god awful to just bad. Gilbert looked like an upside down turtle on the field after Dumerville dumped him and sacked ben. Lots more in the same venue to talk about. It brings back that old joke about execution "yeah that's a good idea but do you think we could get away with it?" It is fitting that ***** slapping was the topic with the ravens on thursday cause thats what they did to the steelers on Thursday.

I see the future... It can change, but we must fight and delivery this change from the wicked bonds of Art Rooney 2. The prophecy goes that... "If we remain on the same course with MT at the helm, whose coaching tool bag is empty, (see what I did there?) we will face the same fate the Raiders are living through". (Magic 8 Ball slowly fades to only deep blue goo.) I must rest now.

Best interview???? So that's all you need? **** on the field/sideline accomplishment.

Tomlin didn't have the resume to even get a big DC position, let alone this job.

He also came with a huge endorsement from Tony Dungy.

1. What have the Steelers done well since Tomlin took over as head coach? What are his strengths as a head coach? In what areas are the team better since he took over?

2. Who is on your list to replace him?

You can't forget the Ben factor when Tomlin was hired. Whiz was never going to get the job because Ben and he didn't see eye to eye. Consequently, I don't think Whiz wanted the gig, maybe because of the strained relationship with Ben, so he took himself out of the equation. Rivera was in the SB that year and the Steelers didn't want to wait for him, think that would have put them back two weeks or so. As for Grimm, he would have been old school. I don't know for certain if Ben poo pooed that idea. Maybe, maybe not. There's also the point that Grimm never got a chance from anybody else to be HC, maybe he's just not HC material. But after Tomlin came on board, Ben's buddy Arians was promoted to OC.

Frankly I blame equal parts age, Tombert, and NFL rules changes.

I like Mike Tomlin and think he'll be our coach for a long time coming. This team isn't that far away from a quick turnaround. New players have to gel, rookies need to get their feet wet. We're 1-1 guys, with the whole season still ahead of us. Sure we've seen some ugly football on both sides of the ball, but you guys really ready to jump off the ledge already? Geez. Why not call for Roethlisberger's head, he's as much responsible for these six ****** quarters as anyone. I wanna see this team play 4-5 more games (at least) before I start making any type of broad generalizations on the direction of the team. I hope this thing starts heading in the right direction next Sunday, let's go Steelers!

I'd like to agree with you but the Tomlin/Colbert combo has shown relatively little ability to make productive draft picks. The can't-miss guys they've taken are fine but there have been more misses than hits, so to speak.

nope not buying it. They did the minority moving forward it will be the best candidate. And hopefully it will be sooner or later For the record officially off the Tomlin bandwagon..............
The NFL and media take notice every winter of black coaching hires. If no other team hires one and/or Rooney Rule Rooney fires one, you'd have to be naive to think it wouldn't be a major priority. This country has twice elected a black man president, and it's still very much obsessed with race and percieved discrimination.

Pump the brakes Coach Toonces! I can assume some people would want to hang this one on 'the cat', but from where I was sitting in M&T Bank Stadium, I saw too many turnovers and too many penalties screw our chances to be competitive.

Penalties and turnovers are a result of undisciplined football. You play undisciplined football, you probably won't win much.

Any chance we can get some input on this ridiculous post after a win?

Well you are as good as any to get the "input" started !!! What say ye?

Salute the nation

The men had a good practice in the game of situational football, obviously, and the arrow is pointing up if you will, which is significant when you have players with pedigree, obviously.

I feel the same way I've felt the last few seasons. The Steelers held on too long to their core guys and tried to stretch out their window and had it not been for a few Ben Roethlisberger injuries in 2011 and 2012 it may have paid off. They have restocked this roster pretty well but it is going to take time for these guys to get up to speed. I could understand the bitching if the Steelers had been 4-12 the last few years but 8-8 seasons aren't the end of the world and to be honest the last losing season the Steelers had gave them the chance to draft Ben Roethlisberger. Sometimes you have to have some perspective.

Hopefully they have found an identity with their running game and it will go a long way in aiding the defense and keeping them off the field for long stretches. The offensive line had one of the best nights they've have in a loooooooong time in Carolina and hopefully it will carry over. It's going to take time for this team to mature together but I like what I see.

the one thing that is going to be an issue scheme wise is that the Steelers have obviously been drafting players with sub package football in mind on defense and haven't been able to use it so far this season because the players aren't comfortable enough yet. They may need to do some of that they did when Timmons was playing a sub package role and Larry Foote was starting in 2007-2009. It's also going to be interesting to see what happens with the lack of depth and experience (and size) at corner.

As far as Tomlin ruining this franchise. Give me a ****** break. Look around the league right now at how a lot of these teams have started out. It's hard to win in this league and like it or not the guy hasn't had a losing season.

My opinion on Tomlin is not based on 1 game so why would 1 game change my opinion?

This is the make or break year for Tomlin. I never said he should have been fired until this year and that is conditional on the steelers not making the playoffs.

I predicted the steelers making the playoffs this year. You have Ben, an improved OL, Bell and Antonio as playmakers. That coupled with the easy schedule means if the steelers don't make the playoffs, Tomlin has to go unless there is a plague of key injuries. Injuries and ****** coaching are the only things that can stop the steelers from making the playoffs this year when there are no truly great teams.

I keep hearing this ... yet not from the Rooneys.

The time for fireing him was after the loss to green bay in the superbowl. At this point you have stuck with him as he develops see what he has developed into. We may be witnessing the development of a good head coach from very modest beginnings he gets this season, at the end of it if he is still getting better regardless of record of the team you keep him, if he has plateaued he should be gone. the folks that will be able to evaluate this the best will be the Rooneys and they may be the only ones able to accurately gauge his development. The thing I do not want to do is throw a guy out when he starts to become good.

Lets see how we do with 3 starters down on Defense. This is where coaching will be tested. Position coaches, and D coordinators need to get their players ready. Tomlin reached out and we acquired Harrison. If he pans out, that would be an excellent move. Whereas we didn't make a move at CB. Will that come back to bite us, or is this CB crew as good as LeBeau thinks they can be? Looks like we'll start finding out on Sunday.

We have improved in clock management (scoring last in all 3 halves of this season, scoring on the last play of the game week 1, and running out the clock in the 4th last game, ending in victory formation). I'd like to see that continue. That alone could be a 2 game swing in our final record.

Please tell me why the Steelers should of fired him after the Packers Super Bowl.
