Tomlin says Coaching/Defensive Starter changes could be coming

My take after watching his presser was this was just Tomlin's way to dodge the question. Not happening. Nothing meaningful anyway.
Maybe they'll be a firing but they'll just hire someone else from within. Hey lunch lady Doris, did you talk to Ben Roethlisburger last year about what he wanted to see happen with the offense and what he wanted on his burger? You're hired!!! Now go unleash hell!

In fairness lunch lady doris maybe better than what we got

The standard remains the standard. On to our worst season since 1989...maybe even before that time for Tomlin. What else will change.
The only reason you brought that year up is because the announcer said this is biggest loss since 1989. We made playoffs that year.

I'm not sure what coaching changes you can make mid-season that are going to have a dramatic impact on this team. I'm not a big Tomlin fan but it's becoming pretty obvious that Matt Canada is a problem as our OC and it's becoming apparent that Teryl Austin who had major problems as DC Under Marvin Lewis in Cincy is not doing anything to help our Steelers Defense either. If both those guys get canned I wouldn't be upset.....The sooner the better IMO. Let Mike Sullivan take over the Offense and Brian Flores over the Defense. They really can't be any worse.
Reading that Sullivan's offense in Tampa (the one year he called the plays) finished last in the league doesn't exactly inspire much confidence.

Unless you were referring to the Penguins' Mike Sullivan? He's an intelligent fellow...I honestly believe that he might be able to do a much better job than Canada. Of course, so could I.

He might change his undies.

Tomlin's MO is tho put the blame on people He seldom takes the blame for himself.

1988. Okay, so my point remains it was a long time ago.
After halftime said, "We just have to execute better."
IE: It ain't coachin' the players are just F'n up."

As for Art making changes, I heard today that the NFL is pulling down over 500 million a week, much of that split among teams for tv revenue.

He makes money either way. No freakin' problem.

I still believe that it is Tomlin’s philosophy that is stunting both sides of the ball… I think we overplay passive zones on D and on O I think we fear the center of the field… its all perimeter stuff in the pass game…

The entire defense has collapsed.

Yes, TJ Watt is an enormous influence on any game. But this team still has Cam Heyward and Minkah Fitzpatrick. It still has Alex Highsmith and Myles Jack. Ogunjobi has been a decent player for years. Eli Wallace was a starter on a very good Buffalo team last year. But after Week 1, this defense is a total mess. Can't stop the run, can't get pressure, can't cover.

Is the Steeler defense so easy to read and dissect? Are we to believe the entire defensive roster just forgot how to play defense? What happened to that Austin/Flores impact that we heard so much about?

And the offense. Is there a player other than Kenny Pickett and George Pickens who haven't regressed since arriving in Pittsburgh? How can the rookies show more promise than anyone else on that side of the ball???

Chase Claypuff was better as a rookie than he is now.
Dionte Johnson has never learned how to catch the catchable ball.
James Daniels was really good in Chicago. But now?
Mason Cole was good enough to start for Minnesota, a team that can run the ball effectively. But now?
Najee Harris suddenly looks like a 50 year old version of himself.
Has Dan Moore made any progress from last year?
Has anyone at Left Guard not fallen off the map since arriving in Pittsburgh?
Chuks Okorafor got a nice contract, for what? Has he made any progress in the 5 years he has occupied a roster spot?

Any player can have an off year now and then. Maybe even a couple of them. But an entire roster doesn't regress consistently without a common denominator.

How is this anything other than a complete failure at the coaching staff level?

So lets say you have a restaurant… and the Chef there tells all the cooks in order to save on the water bill, to use dirty dish water to cook with… it wont matter what brand of food you buy or how often you replace the staff, its never going to be a good product because the fundamental problem is being pushed from the top down… everything else that chef may do could be excellent and that one giant flawed philosophy sinks everything else

We need new coaching top to bottom. Nobody wants to work under Tomlin. In order to get new coordinators we need a new head coach. The minority owners want a coaching change a couple years ago. Perhaps Rooney will take notice now?

While Tampa Bay is in town, Rooney should invite their OC for an interview.

This team could beat Miami but realistically, they are sitting at 1-7 (2-6 at best) at their bye week. The 2nd half of the season is easier but even with Watt back, I don't see them doing any better than .500 in those games. Right now, they are staring at 6-11 or 7-10 as the very best they will do. That sucks. It certainly was mostly expected moving on from your franchise QB but the way they have done it was not. They are truly one of the very worst teams (in all aspects) in the NFL. Big changes must happen but it will take a couple years to build around Pickett. In 3 years, who do we have? Watt and Minkah for sure on D and probably Leal. Anyone else for sure? On O, we have Pickett and Pickens. I'm not sure right now there are any other definites, are you? The coaches must change. Tomlin should change but won't. We need the very best assistants with so much change happening on this team.

Unlikely to bench any starters because 1) We don't have anyone better and 2) Shades would be admitting he made a mistake, something he is incapable of.

You know what else needs fixed? Front office talent need wholesale re evaluation (yeah I know Colbert is gone). The last 5 first round picks we have....Edmunds, Bush, trade, Harris and Pickett. Too early on Pickett but those picks are not panning out. The cries over taking a RB in the first round are getting louder. Taking Freirmuth over Humphries also hurt.
We need wholesale regime change. The problem is the way that the Rooney's have operated since Noll was coach which is: If you are successful you have a job as long as you want it.
The thing is Noll built his dynasty teams, Cowher turned the roster completely over within a few years and built his own successful teams. Tomlin inherited a great team, had success early with that team then showed who he was when it became his show. I'm sure Rooney can see this, but you have to wonder that even if he wanted to make a change if the whole Rooney Rule and political climate in the country would keep him from doing it. It's quite a mess.

Team obviously got progressively worse as more and more of Cowher's players and staff retired or moved on. 3 playoff wins in 11 years and none in the last 6 years. Now the last of Cowher's players is gone and they are who we thought they are.
Shades' 2008 SB team had 37 players left from 2005 and his 2010 team still had 17 players from 2005 and pretty much the whole coaching staff.
