Tomlin stepping down

Perhaps this story has legs and is about to become more public. It would become a huge distraction to this organization. You can't hide this stuff forever unless you have a fixer. The media and fans souring on Tomlin and forcing him out, doesn't add up. Tomlin's ego is too big to walk away from the haters and doubters. It's probably the allegedly personal and family stuff.

next season Tomlin would be free of his contract due to the option, or am I wrong?
The contract is for 2 more years regardless of when. So even if it's 5 years from now, the Steelers will still get compensated. However, the compensation will go down over time. This year or next, it could be a first round pick. Five years from now it could be a 5th rounder.

Incorrect. 2027 is an option year so that is voided. The Steelers only have his rights for 2026.

I think that is true if he had stayed. But steelers own his rights for another year even if he sits in a booth for 5 years.
At least that is how I interpret it

Local sports talk radio has reported several times that 2027 was an option year so since he resigned that is voided.

Agreed. Unless he comes back and coaches for 1 year. Pitt still owns his rights. Even if he doesn't coach for a few years. He did not fulfill the last year of his contract

It's all over FB this morning that the "family considerations" are a new addition to the Captain Cool Shades family.
Allegedly he got a 20 year-old bartender at Burn pregnant and paid her off so she could get outta Tahn and move to Florida.
Allegedly his below-the-waist productivity outweighed his above-the-neck thought process and things of that nature, obviously.
Apparently not playing prevent defense.
Allegedly.
Cowher allegedly knocked up his secretary.. a bunch of NFL coaches have such dalliances on their resume

I wouldn't cheat my wife in general, period. but definitely even less for that face.
Mrs. Burgundy is 60 and better looking.
I’m not saying that because I have to.
Supe and DBS will verify.
The standard is to not pull out
When I was between marriages I lost an otherwise great girlfriend because I had a vasectomy during my first marriage. Fun at first but at some point she decided I would be good father material and reversing it was non-negotiable. When you’re the age of me or Shades you get the ol’ snip-snip and you don’t have to worry about it.

The way it was reported, after 2026 he is free and clear. The Steelers are only owed compensation if he coaches somewhere else this year. This is because he resigned. Hairball is free to work for another team because he was fired.

Again, local sports radio are idiots.. the Steelers supposed position on Bill Cowher was that to this day they still have his coaching rights...

Its a gray area that has never been fleshed out.. the best guess is unless an escape clause was written in, he will retain right at least through 2027

When Arians retired from the Cards after 2017, he had one year left on his contract, he did the TV thing for a season, then in 2019 Tampa wanted him... Arizona may or may not have still had his rights, so Tampa traded a sixth to the Cards for a seventh and them to relinquish any claim to him just in case...

Its never been formally arbitrated so who knows...

For the record, the Media doesn't have access to coaches contracts. The NFL doesn't disclose them. Everything we know about them is hearsay from team or agent leaks...

Agents and teams have pushed various narratives about these rights throughout the years that didnt hold up legally when tested

Don Shula thought he could just resign and take the Dolphins job that paid better... thats when trading picks for coaches became a thing.. cause he could not just do that..

The Jets thought by naming Parcells GM and coach, it would invalidate New Englands rights to him, it did not

Sean Payton supposedly thought sitting out a few years would free his rights, but that wasnt a certain thing so he jumped right back in with Denver...

Again this isnt really defined by the NFL yet... coaches usually are fired, few resign and fewer yet coach again

There's a lot of misinformation going around then. The way I heard it explained they would still get compensated regardless if it was one year or two. The contract is dormant until he signs with another team. I don't think the one year expires unless he fulfills it with the Steelers or the Steelers let him out of the contract.

Doubt it matters if the allegations prove to be true, no one will pursue him until things become clear, obviously.

Think so ? I dunno. It might not sway a team… He should try to coach next year so we can find out.

😃

I would also kind of silently advertise Watt after June 1st (there are some cap advantages to trading him after that date). Even during the season would be fine.

If we can find a team desparate to trade us a 2027 first rounder for Watt, I might jump at that.

The 2027 QB draft class could be very special. 3 solid top-10 guys. Sounds familiar to how we got Ben.
Arch Manning
Julian Sayin?
Dante Moore?
