Total Embarrassment

The team came out flat, they let their O pound us right down the field. We've been blitzing and spreading the ball around the last few weeks, this week we quit blitzing and tried to run against a stout front 7, instead of throw against a ****** secondary. We came out ultra conservative, as usual against a **** team

We basically did the only thing we could do to keep them in the game. On top of that, we turn the ball over four times when they've only forced three all season. Even with all of that going against us, there was still a chance to win and they blew every single one of them.

Something that got lost in the Ravens win is that the Steelers started out looking totally inept (again). Today they couldn't shake it. It's ******* bizarre!

Through all that, you havent said one damn thing about Ben or LeBeau...that defense that got pushed around, has been gettin pushed around all season....they arent very good and everyone knows that. WHich is why its up to Ben/Haley to tailor this offense to maximize output on the field and that includes, NOT TAKIN SACKS/SACKS IN THE RED ZONE, MOVIN THE CHAINS AND EATIN CLOCK TO PROTECT THE DEFENSE, SCORING POINTS AAAAND, NOT TURNING THE BALL OVER ...The last one is the sole reason we lost today...nobody wins games with a -4 turnover margin. Not even Peyton...........Ben **** the bed..Brown **** the bed..Suisham even pissed his crib....grown *** men that are capable and proven all-pros and you blame coach ..why blame him TODAY.?? Players earned this loss, not coaching

I agree the players played like ****. But where were the coaches to get them right. Changes and play execution can be managed some on the sidelines.
As for LeBeau and Haley. Agree. Compete ****. Ben was not, and is not, a good field general on the field. But, Mike Tomlin is the man in charge and he should be ultimately accountable. Leadership at any level is a reflection of the leadership at the top. Take that for what it is.

I hungout with Supe and another Steeler Fan friend today at a Steeler bar and watched the game. The first series of downs told me all I needed to know about the team playing down to their opponents level. I blame the players and the coaches. The players for looking past a bad Jets team and the coaches for allowing it.

The reality is we all sort of expected this... And it happened. AGAIN! This team is a mess. They play kick *** one week, then lay down and get utterly pushed around the next. That's not lack of talent, that's lack of focus and the inability to make in game corrections.

Ben did not help himself today. He gave the Jets a few points.

Maybe, instead of dickin' around with the Biebs, this team should FOCUS ON PLAYING FOOTBALL AND BEATING CRAPPY TEAMS LIKE THEY ARE S'POSED TO!

We needed a smack in the mouth. We got it. Let's see how they choose to respond.

/s 3 times in 2009
/s 3 times in 2012
/s 4 times in 2013
/s 2 times and counting in 2014.

Sorry, but I cannot accept the "oh well, every team loses one of these now and then" explanation.

And for the love of heavens, could Steelers fans stop citing Cowher's loss to the expansion Jaguars and a loss to the Raiders for comparison? Cowher's teams dropped 3 turds against garbage competition in 15 years.

Tomlin's teams drop 3 turds per season.

We had one of the hottest qb's in the nflNFL, and we put the handcuffs on him early, just come out and sling the ball around, we haven't run the ball real well the last couple weeks any ways.

The game plan sucked ***, this is mostly on Haley, but Tomlin shoulders some to because he approves the game plan. I told my son before the game started that we needed to score every time we got the ball, Vick ALWAYS has our number. Bryant had 4 catches for 148 yards and a td, EIGHTY coming on one play, where was that the first 56 minutes of the game? Our guys bought into Tomlins same bullshit about how good the other team was, we acted like we were **** house scared of their secondary instead of realizing they were the worst in the NFL, that goes for both players and coaches.

Shushy's missed field goal gets a total pass from me, first is because we should have gone for it instead of kicking a field goal in the first place, and second he is entitled to a miss without taking a **** ton of crap, especially when it had zero bearing on the outcome of this game.

Piss poor clock management AGAIN by Tomlin.we let almost 40 seconds tick off the clock before the jets punt the ball to us at the end of the half.Absolutly no sense of urgency down by 17 points in fourth quarter, we get the ball with over 13 minutes to play and we take six minutes to kick a field goal.

You do not put back to back games together like Ben did, or have the string of game AB has had, and not be great players. If the players are the ones being called out for the play on the field, " like so many here like to point out that Mike does not throw or catch, tackle or block" than it has to be on the coach to make sure his players are ready to play. It was painfully obvious today they were not.

This is on Tomlin as far as the coaches go, I'm done blaming Haley/Lebeau. I said it on Friday, we will come out super conservative on O and D, and we did. We were down 20-3 with just over 8 mins to go inside the 5, we haven't been able to run all day, short time and we line up and try to pound it. First down we run it and get no where, so between that play and huddling for the next we play we burned 40 seconds, then we run again and get lose 8 yards, and run another 40 seconds off the clock.

I distinctly remember talkin' about this during the week. This team has a habit of playing down to weaker teams and they tend to get a little "full of themselves"too. Anyone who thought this was a big surprise just isn't payin' attention or is in denial. I kinda believe they received some karma for all that showboat BS too but that's just my opinion. Just play football the best you can and quit tryin; to make the TV interview circuit.

.

The absurd amount of screens they ran early in the game may have been the worst aspect of the gameplan, as not only did they refuse to aggressively attack the Jets defenses' biggest weakness, they played into their greatest strength as their DL and LBs pursue and tackle extremely well. That was most evident on the quick screen to Brown where he was gang raped by three Jets defenders before he could gain a yard and fumbled.

I watched the game. The defense was hitting hard. Big hits on special teams. We were ready to play today.

How do you lose? Turn the ball over 4 times to a team with a ball control running offense.

Want to blame the coach, sorry. Want to blame the fact that we weren't ready to play. Sorry again.

Blame is solely at AB and Ben. They were believing their own press clippings. Thought they were good without working hard for it. We lost the game because of their turnovers.

Don't worry, they are both man enough to accept that blame and move on. We needed a smack in the mouth. We got it. Let's see how they choose to respond.

Thanks for making some sense. We are all upset by this loss, but THIS^^^^ is why we lost. Our team is not good enough to overcome this amount of screw up. Ben missed all kinds of open receivers. He threw to wrong guys, threw for losses instead of throwing it away. Brown looked aweful. When your two best play like your two worst, you'll loose most every time.

Spot on. I couldn't believe all the play calls that funneled the ball right to the strongest part of the Jets D.

Coreya and Puxitawny got it right, the game plan sucked. We should have been throwing downfield like crazy in the 1st quarter. Their secondary should've been exploited from the beginning of the game!

You know what... I don't think we are overlooking these teams... we are treating them with too much respect. Totally conservative gameplan for the first 30 minutes. we played scared. We don't bury these teams. we don't attack their weaknesses, we treat them like they are superbowl caliber teams and we need to play it safe and hope they screw up for us to win. Someone needs to tell tomlin to grow a set because everyone saw this loss coming...

I wonder how our coaches would do on the Wonderlic.

I was pleading with my television for the Steelers to not try and run the ball from the one yard line.

The Steelers got the ball back, down by 17, with 13:20 left in the 4th quarter. It took them 9 plays to get to the 1. There was one incompletion to stop the clock. They actually ran the ball twice, for a total of 2 yards, and had six completions. No real sense of urgency. Here's the time between plays:

:27
:33 (run for no gain)
:25
:30
:05 (incompletion)
:27
:33
:40 (run for 2 yards)
:37

Then, after the pass and defensive holding penalty took 7 seconds, the next two running plays took another whopping 1:24 off the clock, then an incompletion and the field goal at 7:25. So, down by 3 scores, they burned nearly 6 full minutes of clock, blew a 1st-and-goal from the half yard line, and came away with 3 points.

Amazing.

Damnit OL!! Stop giving Ben TOO MUCH time.

It was a 3 man rush and everyone else was in coverage. We had 6 people in blocking, there were four people out in routes and all were covered by the EIGHT guys they had in coverage. You wait that long (while not scrambling around), and the middle of the field is the LAST place you want to throw the ball. Wheaton was open when he first made his break, but he went right INTO the coverage. Ben should have seen that and he didn't. He wasn't rushed into a throw, he knew he had tons of time and the DL wouldn't get close. Sometimes too much time is just as bad as not enough time.

The players failed to execute the game plan there, no doubt.

And the coaches failed to put the players in a position to win by not going to a hurry up, no huddle offense when they are down 17 points with 13:20 left in the game.

Also can anybody tell if the Steelers are losing or winning by their tempo? I can't. They play the same way whether they are losing by 17 or winning by 17.

I get what you are saying- but our recent success on offense has used very little, if any, hurry up offense. The hurry up offense requires timing, precision and separation- something that Ben and the WR's struggled with. This had more to do with the players giving the ball away and not being able to convert in the RZ- and less to do with not having enough time on the clock

No, it requires snapping the ******* ball quickly. They can run the exact same plays... just quickly. This loss had a lot to do with coaches putting together a ****** game plan. The Jets have ONE good area of the team- the front 7. Their secondary sucks ***. So in order to beat them ALL the other teams that beat them hammered them in the air. The Steelers are smarter than that so they decide to run quick screens, bubble screens and short throws into the teeth of the defense. Yea, the players didn't do well but the coaches sure as hell didn't do them any favors.
