Here is how I see it:

Priority (Pay market Value): Ogunjobi., Sutto. ,

Try to Retain: Spillane, Watt, Edmunds, Kazee, Gentry

Walk or on the real cheap: Rudolph, (Bush), Davis, (Alulau), (Allen), (Wormley), Scott, Joseph, Boykin, Snell, (Reed)

* Bracketed I have no interest in retaining. I don't know anything about Davis or Scott

I like what you’re saying. I would add that keeping Edmunds and Kazee for me would be priorities.
Shouldn’t be too hard to keep Spillane,Watt and Gentry.
The rest of them can get on with their life’s work as far as I’m concerned.
We also need to try and do an extension with Highsmith even though he has another year left.

Sutton has to be top priority.
Ogunjobi might be too pricey
We need two of Kazee,Edmunds and Karl. Joseph to be retained…
spilane is almost going to have to be retained because of the lack of ilbs…
Gentry should get an average offer to stay as a blocking TE.
Boykin will get a meh offer to stay for sure… lack of wr size and his special team’s pedigree will have them try to keep him

I expect snell and rudolph to chase better opportunities elsewhere.
I wouldn’t keep Wormley or Allen but the coaches love them

You fill spots with Retaining your free agents, grabbing someone else's or drafting. I agree that Sutton is more of a priority then Ogunjobi. And he is a one year player with no big affiliation so he probably follows the $. I'm confident they keep at least one safety. One will view himself as odd man out and look to start somewhere.
Watt will be interesting. He was good in short and in most all of his limited opportunities. He is good on Specials though I cannot say I saw a ton of that. And his brother at this point is the most significant chess piece on the team. So what is the market for that?

Sutton, Kazee, Edmunds, Larry O and Gentry are my absolute top priorities. If DJ is gone as his actions today seem to indicate I add on one or two of the receivers to prove it deals.

I tried to read about this and there is something about Social Media ,but it was far from clear.

With a starting qb on a rookie contract hopefully we can resign most of our guys, and 1 or 2 outside guys

There are other guys we should watch to see if they get traded or just cut before the season too

Obviously Mitch Trabisky is by far the most likely to be moved. He seems to be a bit disappointed in his role here and as we famously say… we don’t want hostages…

And while I would certainly entertain 1st round offers for DJ, that is, admittedly, a long shot to happen… but it isn’t totally impossible…

But other low key guys that could be on the move:
Gunner… he has no place here with Sims on the roster. You save 2 million dollars by cutting or trading him.

Cam Heyward… he would instantly make my list of players I hold a grudge against the team for letting go, and imo they absolutely should not… but he has a 10 million cap savings if they did move him, and twice that the following year… it is an option, though a risky and unpopular one if they did it

William Jackson III… this guy has a roster bonus of a little over 3 million dollars, so if he is on the roster after that trips, they plan on keeping him… his cap savings is over 12 million dollars
His potential back issues wipes out any value he would have in a trade.. so he would be an outright cut

Ahkello Witherspoon… I like Witherspoons playmaking abilities, but he is basically a 2ndor 3rd boundry CB, and behind Levi Wallace and Perhaps Pierre for that role here now… he may well stay if we resign Sutton at a reasonable price and cut WJ3 but moving him saves 4 million. This guy fought hamstring injuries all year long… he only played in 4 games… the first two he played 100% of the snaps the first two games, then got banged up vs Cleveland… he spent 4 weeks inactive… came back for tge philly contest, but only played 30 snaps before he left with hamstring issues that ultimately never let him see the field again …
The Steelers viewed him as a better option than pierre or Wallace coming out of camp… he was their starter prior to the injuries…
Its a numbers game… if we are spending market value on Sutton and keeping WJ3… we cant afford two five million dollar cbs and I think the Injury let Wallace leapfrog him… the good news is that we should be able to recoup that fifth round pick we spent to get him, or at worse a sixth, if we go down that path…

And finally Chuks Okorafor. This move might be unimaginable right now, but it’s logical in the right scenario. First off, teams are in need of olinemen, so he would have mid round vale if we shopped him… but that would have to be during camp for sure…
The scenarios where we may look to do so go like this…
First we add a higher pick OT… preferably a LT… and the guy wins a starting spot, either knocking Moore from LT or Chuks from RT.. either way it’s likely that the staff doesn’t move Moore inside like we want, but rather moves him to RT… he had experience at both LT RT and guard in college…
A second though less likely route is that we add two Tackles in the draft, a LT and RT , and again Chuks ends up the odd man out.. while he would be a great backup option… at a 13 million dollar cap hit, trading him and freeing up 7 million dollars in space would certainly be on the table ..

DJ isnt a UFA. Or else i missed something.
People are reading stuff into a post he made on social media and because he isn’t following the Steelers on intagram.. though it is totally possible that when he unfollowed them during the contract negotiations he simply never remembered to re follow them afterwards

Some theories being thrown around are that he is demanding a contract renegotiation already somehow, that he gave a “me or Canada” ultimatum, or that, displeased with the team not getting him a touchdown pass ( that he didn’t drop) he has demanded a trade… other think the team told him that they are looking to shop him… others think that his tweet was related to him hinting that Matt Canada is going to be out shortly

Nobody knows… it’s probably nothing

I don't think we can cut/trade Chuks unless we sign a viable replacement in free agency. I personally go into the 2023 draft looking to find value and draft two tackles. In a perfect world Broderick Jones is sitting there at 17 and we draft him and then maybe grab a TJ Bass with our last pick. Of course if you can live with Dotson at LG maybe kick Moore to RT.

I'm not saying what should happen with Cam but I'm saying what will. They are kicking his salary down the road. Probably a 4 year deal where he will get paid to not play. Convert base to up front spread over 4. 10 million each. So he actually pockets the 40 but they mortgage it longer. Or maybe not 40nbut damn close. Great player leaders.

Exactly. only thing i'd say is Gentry can catch pretty damn well so if Canada gets axed maybe... otherwise Gentry might be a below average offer cause we rarely ever use him.

PS i wish we could just let Spillane saunter off. jesus.

Moore sucked major league **** at RT.

they tried. he looked like dogshit.

Yeah I was saying if he loses his starting position, which easily could happen, he just makes too much to be a backup.. i don’t think they would cut him… there is a shortage of linemen so they do have value… but they wouldn’t move him until they knew they had viable healthy starters in place…

Diontae Johnson is following the Steelers on IG. All is well in the world.

Cam Sutton - Top priority. They let Mike Hilton go and couldn't quite replace what he brought. Sutton is the best CB on the team and part of that terrific 2017 draft. KEEP.

Terrell Edmunds - Edmunds earned a mid-tier deal, thinking ideally 3 years, maybe 4. He's not a playmaker, but a steady presence in the secondary. I think he likes it here as well. KEEP.

Damontae Kazee - Sometimes you just get pieces that work together. I don't know if the Steelers will keep both safeties, but I'd sure try. They have a nice group working right now. KEEP

Robert Spillane - He is what he is and while his talent is limited, he works to improve and plays with a physical edge. Good role player and should be cheap. KEEP

Derek Watt - Solid on special teams and oddly enough has a role in Matt Canada's offense if he returns. That contract needs to represent his snaps and production. OFFER

Zach Gentry - He is what he is. Really developed from nothing in terms of experience. OFFER

Larry Ogunjobi - He did a nice job this year and would like to see him come back for another season. I think he'll get more money elsewhere so he'll have to come back because he wants to be here opposed to the contract. OFFER

Mason Rudolph - We all know Mason is on his way out. GOOD LUCK!

Benny Snell - Same as Mason. I wish he had more of an opportunity for snaps early on. GOOD LUCK!

Tyson Alualu - Age and injuries took over. GOOD LUCK!

Marcus Allen - I still can't believe he's on the roster. GOOD LUCK!

Chris Wormley - I am fine with him as depth, but he is coming off an ACL injury. GOOD LUCK!

Devin Bush - I would've strongly considered cutting him before the season when he said he'd still be in the NFL next year. SEE YA!

You guys had a very similar season to ours. We both fought back but came up short.

I think Moore is the problem at LT. I think he is depth and maybe a swing guy. He gets turnstiles once a game AND takes a penalty. Chuks is good enough. Your LT needs to have real talent.

I think he is hanging it up. What do you guys think we should do with him?
He is scheduled to make 40 million dollars and it costs 24 for the Packers to have him not play. What do you figure? That might be the team we could fleece for DJ. They need immediate help at Wr.
