Watson to Browns

As a Steeler fan, I love this. They gutted their draft capital and will destroy their cap shortly. Plus Watson is overrated as a player.

As a human, I have yet to see anything that makes me think Watson is not a scumbag predator. I find it unconscionable that the same media that championed #metoo and wanted men fired for micro aggressions is totally fine with Watson being accused by over 20 women. Believe all women, except for these 20 apparently.
I can say the same thing about Ben...right?

Watson was not a big enough name, where Ben was a 2 time SB champion when his situation broke. Combine that with being in the middle of the pandemic, now a war and it's easy to see why there is not so much attention.

And before I get flamed for the Ben comment remember when the Ben accusations became more than one it was a case of gold digging....with Watson not so much. Funny.....

Brett Kavanaugh...also not a rapist..LOL. Funny how that works.

It shouldn't count, though. He was sitting because of Houston, not the league. If the league ever wants to get out of their showing favoritism, etc. and show even a little consistency, he has to be suspended for way more than Ben got. Ben had 2 accusations and it never made it past the police investigation. Watson had north of 20 accusations, I believe. Ben got 6 games reduced to 4. Even if you double Watson's (but should be more like 5 times what Ben got), he is sitting for half a year. Hopefully, Goddell shows some balls and some consistency.

I totally hear and support what you are saying but I was going on what I think the league (rog) is going to do. It's already known what the dicipline will be otherwise cleveland wouldn't have made such a high capital trade.

Little chest served his suspesion while not even being on a roster so anything is possible. Watson sat, Houston decided to pay him. Had Houston decided to play him the rog may have stepped in and put him on the commissioner's list but wasn't forced in that call.. The NFLPA may step in with the arguement of he already sat or smaller suspension due to time already searved.

Just a $.78 opionion so take it for what it's worth.

Salute the nation

He couldn't pass up 150 million guaranteed...He would play anywhere for that ..

especially with 22 civil cases pending..

EXACTLY

His no - trade clause allowed him to go to the highest bidder with his choice of landing. Believe me when I say this................... His choice was always meant for the highest money available because he went to cleveland (QB death camp) proves it was just about money not competative rosters.

I think you're right. It's total BS but probably will be what Rog does. He has no balls.

I put my money on them continuing on their historic fails within the factory of sadness. If those wheels aren't the same we know that can impact. So I am curious if he regains form. If he does they will be competitive. Buttttt I don't think they will be more than that like in the big dance more than that. Always could be wrong but not hard to see some handcuff possibilities.
And he is now playing in the AFC North. Tough D's and cold weather. Not the fluffy South.

what's going to happen next is Mayfield will go somewhere and do well. Stats between Watson and Mayfield will be very similar.

If I was the Titans, I'd be trying to get Mayfield. Though if Cleveland were *smart* they'd send trade him to Seattle or Atlanta.

(hint: they're not smart)

So the team that could have easily drafted Deshaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes,Justin Herbert or Josh Allen while still trading down in the draft to secure even more draft capital is now giving up on media darling Baker Mayfield and replacing him with the same Deshaun Watson (now dragging 20 plus civil actions and league suspensions along with him) to a fully guaranteed monster contract.....while giving away the future draft class ........ AND ...while deminishing Baker Mayfield's potential trade value.

What an ORGANIZATION ........ Good times ahead there Cleveland faithful ........ this team is going to be the first to field the new 7 on 11 in NFL Games ......... cause they are only going to have 7 guys on OFFENCE being paid 3/4 of their salary cap

22 women in Watsons case idiot.
Yeah funny how that works, and Bill Clintons 21 accusers were all god digging bimbos too.

I think you've been told once before to stop injecting political **** here.
Go over to the politics forum and get your nose rubbed in your own **** over there like everyone else.

3 #1s= Najee, TJ and Bush. . . sorry, but that's a lot for one QB. Not to mention making him the highest player.

I'm not sure Cleveland is that close to contending for a SB. Sure, they had to do something to compete with the North and the rest of the AFC, but it's a big gamble of money and picks that will boom or bust.

You should bet money on "bust" over "boom".

in my opinion the trade value fits, the 3 1st round picks, I would have made it too if he didn't have the off field legal **** as the image of my company will be represented by my franchise QB, a sex predator if not a rapist but at the minimun a sex offender. Then the salary, no way I pay that to a QB that sat a whole season, I think he is legit, a true elite talent, but the money the browns paid was stupid and they had to because he didnt want to go there (who does right?) so I think the Steelers could have signed him to a more decent contract with less guaranteed money as he wanted to go there.

deals like this are why Cleveland can't have nice things. when he was drafted by texans they were loaded he had great weapons. he's average at best but they aint paying for average are they lol ... good luck Cleveland!

contracts are getting so blown up and some of these dumbass franchises continue to lead the way to crippling the organization for years to come to satisfy the need to win now.

Sometimes enjoy watching these financial blunders made in desperation.

Rams just extended Stafford for a miniscal $160 million.......... at least that signing achieved a Superbowl in a cinderella storyline.

Green Bay and Cleveland may have a difficult time surviving the aftermath of their QB deals for many years to come

Damn Joe Flacco ain't got **** on Watson. Welcome to salary cap hell. All that young talent is going to want there payday.
Was gonna say, remember when the Ratbirds gave Flacco a ton of money and then couldn't afford to put a good team around him.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make. Ben is in no way comparable. He was accused by 1 woman who was crazy. Then he was accused by another girl and her friends on a bar crawl and their stories contradicted so Ben was never charged. It seemed like Ben maybe acted like a jerk but there was no assault. Despite that Ben paid a heavy price in a suspension and also got a lot of media heat. He even still got some heat over it when he announced his retirement.

That is far different than Watson being accused by over 20 women. And barely a peep about it.

Bringing up Ben and Cavanaugh only proves the point that Watson is being given an exemption from scrutiny for some reason.

There is no political forum..and I was responding to someone mentioning #metoo and other political ****....moron.

It's not about numbers... it's about behavior.

I think Watson is a bit over-rated and not very mentally tough. He sat for over a year and who knows how the whole situation will effect him mentally. It will be tough for the Browns to put a team around him and it is the Browns.....Mayfield had a bad year, but he was injured most of it. I would have gave him another chance before sacrificing the future on Watson.

While I find it hard to stick up for Mayfield I was going to say the same thing. The guy was playing hurt most of the year. It will be interesting to see how he performs with another team.

Look like ive been trying to say, if youbwant to compete long term with superstars you have to play the percentages… Teams with contracts over 15% of the cap rarely win… i cant even think of an example .. 12.5% is a normal number you can move a star to and still win… 12.5% of a 208 million dollar cap is still 26 million …

For the record the Watson contract has been announced to have a 1 million dollar salary next year and a 45 million dollar signing bonus, so he will count ten million this year and ******* 220 million over the next four years… 55 million a season… so we are talking a contract that will eat almost a quarter of the cap next season

Ben wasnt in his rookie contract when the Steelers beat Arizona

I heard a GM (forget which one) once talking about big QB contracts and whether it hurts a team. He said that if he's a star player it never hurts the team. Star players make others better. So you can get by with cheaper players at other positions. Not just for QB but any big contract.

TJ Watt's salary doesn't matter so long as he produces at this level. It means the other pass rushers don't have to be studs to be productive because Watt demands extra attention. If you have a lockdown CB it means you can give more help to your lesser CBs.

Manning and Brady's contracts never hurt their teams.

The problem isn't paying star player. The problem is paying above average guys as if they are stars. Particularly at QB. That's why so many teams go downhill after paying a big contract to the QB, because he doesn't lift those around him enough. They still need to surround him with other stars and that's when the money runs out.

The league is suffering from group think on QBs. It all started with Flacco. Until then only great QBs were getting huge contracts. Then Flacco won a SB and the ravens were in a bind. How could they not keep their SB winning QB? Especially after they cut losse their last SB winner Trent Dilfer in favor of a high priced free agent Elvis Grbak.

Once Flacco got that big payday it was as if every team and even the media decided that the position of QB gets paid a shitload of money almost regardless of the player.

The Cowboys were smart to wait and see on Dak. The media was practically having a riot demanding they pay him whatever he wants. The cowboys ultimately caved and paid Dak a huge contract. They made the offense more pass heavy and Dak was up and down.

Cousins keeps getting big paydays and nobody bats an eye.

The Browns were smart to not pay Baker a huge contract. He's been mostly good. Sometimes flashing his potential but never taking that next step. But going all in on Watson is a huge gamble. He's had his moments but he's also gotten to play in lots of garbage time where you can rack up stats.

Browns are all in now. Watson needs to be a star and not just pretty good or his contract will sink this team.
