The Steelers are under dogs against Cleveland this week. What else needs to be said. Everyone stroking the Steelers last week because they won , this tells you where we rate. Tomlin, if your this great motivator what else do you need to know.

1.) No one has remotely 'stroked' the Steelers after our victory last Sunday
2.) The Browns being favorites has much more to do with the upstart Browns (and home field advantage). In fact, the lines opened up EVEN, but the betting population shifted the chips to -2.5 Browns. Which is still not all the impressive considering the usual 3 for HF.

So lets not act like as if we are expected to get blown out. Its just that for the first time, after a decade of top 10 picks, the Browns finally have a respectable team.

Theres more and more evidence this year that the league has parity. Its still early yet but there are no undefeated teams. There are currently 7 1-loss teams, 13 2-loss teams, 6 3-loss teams, 5 4 loss teams and 1 winless team. 60 % of the league falls about where we sit or a game/half game back.

This isnt college (where talent earns you blowouts and shoulds in fact turn to factual)...........on any given Sunday the best can lose to the worst. The Steelers arent title contenders. Lets not fool ourselves.........they are about avg or just above in my book. But we arent a finished product and although we finished hot at the tail end of last season, we still have 22 new players to integrate into the roster.

Bottom line, if we had a defense anywhere similar to what we had 3-4 yrs ago, we'd be 4-1 and projected a division title contender. We arent that far off. We just have to mesh these new parts with the old and hope it bonds substantially. If we hit our stride defensively and the offense clears up half its red zone deficiencies by the time the seasons end approaches we will be a force. Lets see if we can get hot. I do see positive signs defensively though (improvement). Although we get gashed when they run at Worilds side (most of the big gains in the run game happen there)

Jeebus, I wish we had something to "stroke" about.

How does this year compare to the previous years in terms of win/ loss % in week 5?

Also how do you get 22 new players?

There you go again with facts. Sorry it would not let me give you Karma.

He is right- far more parity this year

Last year after week 5:

5-win teams: 3
4 win teams: 3
3 win teams: 9
2 win teams: 9 (3 teams 2-2)
1 win teams: 4
Winless: 4

Last year around this time the standings were far more top/bottom heavy

I was talking more in "years" which is why I said "previous years". Parity over a 4-5 game span doesn't mean much (some teams have only played 4 games).

Can we agree that week 5 is quite early to have no undefeated teams? Or to only have 2 winless teams?

True. But can we also agree 5 (or 4 for some teams) is too early to declare this year of great parity? Since there has only ever been one undefeated team and one win less team I think a 5 (or 4) game stretch is too small a sample size. Does it really matter if they get beat in week 5 or in week 6 like a couple of years ago?

It's flippin' impossible to predict what they'll do each week. This is why I don't bet real money.

You know somebody who will take "not real" money???? ..... I just sold board walk and am now ready to place my bet...!!!

Salute the nation

It just seems like the Steelers are doing the same thing, playing the same way every week.
It's the level of play of the competition that has been the variable.

From opponents view point:
Wk1: Browns had bad first half, couldn't make up score in second half so they lost.
Wk2: Ravens played very well and won in blowout.
Wk3: Panthers played a terrible game in every phase and lost in blowout.
Wk4: Buccaneers played a decent steady game given their talent level and managed to sneek out with a last second win.
Wk3: Jaguars defense played a little better and Bortles made enough plays they almost won.
