What to do with Jarvis Jones if (by some miracle) he does not start.

Wingman, the comments you're referring to on Chickillo were in comparison to Dupree, not directed at Jarvis Jones, just fyi. I'd forewarn you not to get too caught up with camp reports. Year after year there are Cinderella stories of guys that are fun to root for. Hopefully Chickillo is for real and can maybe make the 53, provide something down the road. Heck, maybe he's so good he actually gets some PT this year, who knows. There's plenty of room for talent at all positions up and down the roster, be it on special teams or in base sets. The more talent the better. I hope all these guys are pushing each other. I hate to say this, but a big surge by a guy like Chickillo may be more damaging to a player like Deebo than anyone...as far as roster spots and playing time goes. But again, it's way too early in the process...

Article in the paper the other day says that if he makes the team (or any team) Chickillo will be only the third third-generation player in the NFL. He was what, 6th round? AB was 6th round.

You left out Moats. Gee I wonder why?. Depot said they think Moats will start. Oh, so now you said it.:poop: Okay, might save this quote.

I never said Chickillo is ahead, only that he has been making more plays. I do think Moats is ahead.

Look man, he has been a bust. He's slow, has not offered much in pass rush, and gets easily injured. Can't play special teams...and our first round pick is at his positions. These are the facts. And you know it. Use whatever little football acumen you have to put 2 and 2 together.

Okay, so he’s bigger….that means he’s also a little slower.

Everyone knows this is your stance on J.J. Hell. Most might even agree with to some degree or another. So please spare us another thread on this subject in the near and/or far future.

Well let me take the opportunity to say it looks like by early camp reports I was totally wrong about Chickillo. I was not a fan of that pick, and while I am fairly certain he isn't ahead of JJ by any means, it looks like a better pick than I thought regardless of him making the team or not

I read the draft reports on him since it sounded like he was doing well (but let's be honest how many times have we heard glowing first week reports on a UFA or low draft pick). It basically said he is a very good football player but only fits certain situations. Two slow for 4-3 DE to small for interior. Said he was a great scheme fit for Steelers.

Harrison was brought back because of injury not because Jones was playing bad. Injury. Who knows if he wasn't injured if James is on the team right now.. but everything happens for a reason and maybe it was meant for James to be here mentoring these guys..
You missed all of last seasons games? Old man Deebo was brought back because he was the best ROLB on the team last year and Jarvis sucks.

Let's hope Jarvis grows up this year or it will be Deebo time again.

If he keeps going like he has, Jones will become Willie Colon v.2.0. We won't miss him because he doesn't play much to begin with since he's always hurt.

Every camp there is that one "underdog" rookie that the yinzers all hang their hats on and hope they are the late draft selection of the league...This year it is Chickillo...

Is he for real...or I he just another yinzer camp favorite?

Thread: What to do with Jarvis Jones if he does not start.

start FIVE (5) more ************* threads about it!

Reminder about camp reports:

1. Usually focus on young guys because we know about the veterans.
2. Dupree and Chickillo are at LOLB, Jones is at ROLB.
3. Dupree gets to go against the second string. Chickillo gets to play against the third string. Most of these guys are out of the NFL in three weeks.
4. Jones is doing alright in 11 on 11 and has his moments against Beachum in 1 on 1, but many like to latch on his failures rather than his triumphs. He may not be an All-Pro player, but he'll be serviceable.

Like Beachum, or Foster, or McCullers, or Brown, just to name a few that have progressed nicely, turned into starters or become the best in the nfl, and those guys are fairly recent.

with him it is ....

1 Family NFL background - pedigree if you will obviously.
2 The U by their fans claims, say he wasn't utilized right - like the other players.
3 The draft showed that the U had some talent despite what their record reflected.
4 Chickillo admitted to liking to play at a lighter weight.
5 According to camp reports he is flashing.(no nudity involved /sorry any homos but you do have the new marriage law so there is that)
6 Preseason is on the doorstep, which will give coaches /fans another look
7 Here we go Steelers here we go!

So Harrison was brought back before Uncle Jarvis was injured??? I guess I missed that Smh

I had not problem with Chickillo, but I just worry he's limited to only one position on the field (LOLB) and that just happens to be where our supposed sack savior is going to hopefully play for the next 5 seasons (Dupree).

In my draft review I mentioned all the positive just like here. Comes from a family of football players. Started as a true FRESHMAN in a big-time college program. Never hurt. Might have been playing out of position and is a better fit standing up.

That's all true. And I will never complain about getting a good player, but he's not position versatile in my opinion and Dupree is going to be a big roadblock to him getting playing time. Just not sure I like his fit at ROLB at all.

Aren't Moats and Jones on the same side? If so, Moats will be the starter. He was better last year and has done nothing to lose that spot in camp. They will rotate just like Harrison will rotate with whomever is on his side. But, if Jones isn't performing, the rotation will slow to a screeching halt.

Moats will probably start at LOLB while Dupree gets up to speed. Jones has only played ROLB and is backed up by Harrison.

Same thing was said about Mike Vrabel and look where that ended up. The guy played everywhere in NE...DL, OLB and ILB. I can't make a statement like that until I see how he performs in game.

This was my understanding, too.

It seems like understanding is an issue with a few here. My question is if Jones does not start, what is his value to the team?

Not for long.

I'm one who would like to see Jarvis succeed. I'm not holding out hope that he excels, but I'd like to see him succeed for the obvious reason that it would help the team. That said, I think they've stacked the deck against Deebo this year. From J. Peezy's statements to the press about limiting Deebo's snaps, to how they held Deebo out of the first 8 practices "to protect him from himself". They are laying out the narrative that "James is a warrior, but maybe too old to help much and we have to place limitations on him to protect him." The deck has been stacked against Deebo as a starter since before camp.

Were you referring to the reports that had him being stoned by both Beachum and the back up or Labs and his report of being "underwhelmed" by Jones. There is give and take by all of the guys in camp in that they are looking good at times and bad at times but the thing that was stressed is to keep track of who puts up the most positives. Saying that Jarvis is doing as well as some rookie projects is not a plus for Jarvis who by the way is in the position he played in college and his 4th year. Bud and Chick are posting more positives than Jarvis so far and likely to be the future starters on the team and Jarvis is likely to be gone. So far his high point will be barely adequate. His prowess when being handed the job was so great it involved bringing back Harrison who the team released and was also released by the bengals. Jarvis was so good the steelers drafted two more outside linebackers this year!

If he does not start looking better than he has so far he is likely to be gone as the steelers will have better players to put on the field and would be foolish to save a spot for jarvis and stash better players on the practice squad to be taken by other teams.

Wingman is correct on all points. Our resident Al Bundy has his hand stuck in his pants.

and as usual, your head is up your ***.....

The fact that no one is offering a football debate on Jarvis Jones underscores what a bust he has been. Slow, injury prone, and unable to play special teams he is.

Jones was drafted to be a pass rusher. Jarvis Jones has played in 21 NFL game. Jones has but 3 sacks. And if you watch the film he gets blown off the line too often.

I do admire his effort, which begs the question if he’s trying this hard, why is the production so low?

He isn’t a rookie anymore and there is a reason the Steelers drafted two player at OLB, both of whom are getting more positive press than he is.
