Who would you take? Pick one.

If they really feel JPJ is a stud center then they should take him at 20. They absolutely should not move up to get him though... he is a center... stay put and draft a Tackle or CB..
As much as I'd like to see a center, having a lockdown set of CBs with the pass rush of Watt and Highsmith, that can elevate a defense. Add in a player like Jordan Whitehead to the defensive backfield and get your ILBs healthy, this defense is pretty good and the team can invest heavily into upgrading the offense.

I don't think anyone believes Bo Nix is a franchise QB.

I think he might be a franchise QB, but I don't think Kenny or Mason ever will be. Nix is a dice roll. He has all the tools. Big, tough, string arm, excellent runner. The problem is he played almost entirely in simplified offenses so he just takes the easy throws.

He reminds me of Justin Herbert. That's what i saw in Herbert in college. He had all the skills but always felt constrained. Then he got the the NFL and it was like the handcuffs were off. Can Nix do the same?

It's likely moot anyway. I'll be surprised if Steelers don't draft OL in the first after cutting Cole. They are sticking with the QBs they have. What worries me about that is Arthur Smith is a really good OC and either Kenny or Mason will be good enough in the offense to make the steelers a playoff team.

That could be a bad thing if it means you fool yourself into thinking you have a Super Bowl QB when you just have a wildcard QB. Like Cousins, or Carr.

As long as you don't pay one like a SB QB it can work out

First off, only us fans see that Kenny is average at best. Coach Tomlin thinks he is our QB of the future, so NO, we will not replace him unless a FRANCHISE QB falls in place. We may pick na project QB in mid to later rounds, but he will NOT take Kenny's job. Tomlin is to infatuated with his 1st round pick QB.

8-8-1 here we come, Ani-I-over............................

I’d wager that if a QB isn’t selected rounds 1-3 there will definitely be one selected in the later rounds as it just makes cap sense to have a cheap QB3

Pretty sure the Steelers won’t get bailed out by Rudy as their cheap QB3 option this year and it’s hard to find many veteran FA QBs to come in and be buried as the QB3…unless we do bring in a guy that is just recycle bin trash at vet min that you pray never sees the field when Lenny is out injured and his backup is starting

Probably will be the approach, not the right one. But the approach none the less.

QB position needs true competition in training camp...

I dont think Tomlin wants to take another o lineman with first pick. In going back, the Steelers would alternate first Rd picks . I think Tomlin goes defense the more I think about it. He won't have a Rooney in his ear pushing for a QB . If you believe what we are reading. They like Kenny. . I'm thinking they may roll with Daniels at center, or the rookie from last year. Unless they pick up a free agent.. sounds like Tomlin likes Wiggins or Trotter for first pick. Just based off articles I'm reading

If it has to be one of those two give me Wiggins easily. That right now is the Steelers biggest weakness outside of C ...

As long as you don't pay one like a SB QB it can work out

In the past 20 years, here are the QBs who have won the SB
Tom Brady
Big Ben
Peyton Manning
Eli Manning
Drew Brees
Aaron Rodgers
Joe Flacco
Russel WIlson
Nick Foles
Patrick Mahomes
Matt Stafford

Only Flacco and Foles are not future hall of famers. It can be done, but it's really tough. Everything has to go right. If I'm planning a team, I'm going with the franchise QB model, rather than the save money at QB and try to be great everywhere else model.

Assuming the following QBs as future HOF, Brady, Ben, Eli, Rodgers, Wilson, Mahomes, Stafford

There have been 58 Super Bowls. Only 6 involved no HOF QB
Plunket vs Jaworski
Theisman vs Woodley
Plunket vs Theisman
McMahon vs Eason
Dilfer vs Kerry Collins
Brad Johnson vs Rich Gannon

That leaves 52 Super Bowls involving at least 1 HOF QB

Only 5 times has a non-HOF QB beaten a HOF QB
1986 Simms over Elway
1987 Doug Williams over Elway
1990 Hostetler over Jim Kelly
1991 Rypien over Jim Kelly
2017 Foles over Tom Brady

So in the last 32 years, only 1 time has a non-HOF QB beaten a HOF QB.

They keep changing the rules to favor the pass. If you don't have one of the top QBs in the game, the odds are stacked against you.

Still you build up until you get the chance to get a franchise qb

I don't think you can sit back and wait for a QB to fall to you. The Steelers got Ben with a rare top 10 pick. Since that time, teams have gotten more aggressive with trades, especially for QBs. The rookie cap no longer means drafting a bust QB destroys your team's salary cap.

In 2018, Buffalo had the 21st overall pick. They had to trade up twice to get Josh Allen.

Ultimately to get Allen, Buffalo gave up
picks 21 and 185 plus starting LT Cordy Glenn to go up to 12
Then gave up pick 12, 53, and 56 to go up to 7 to get Josh Allen

That's a lot to give and was completely worth it,. Buffalo will probably be a contender for most of Allen's career.

If the steeler do their homework and they are sold that one of these QBs is a sure thing. Go get him. Price doesn't matter.

You just have to be right. Give up that haul and draft Sam Darnold and you're toast.

I don't follow baseball, but how many teams win the WS with crap pitching but a rock solid lineup?
Just makes too much sense that the guy that handles the ball EVERY play should always be priority 1
If you don't have one you NEED one...period

And imo we don't have one
I'd trade DJ and our first and say a 2nd or 3rd next year if it could get us up to a point where we could land a franchise QB this year

Nice research and post, thanks tape and for all your great ones along the way.

I might add that Plunket is the ONLY 2-time SB winning QB that is NOT in the HOF.

I just watched Rudolph do better than Kenny over the last 3 games, than anything Kenny has done over his 2 yrs. That said, I'm not sold that he's near the answer. Mix has great accuracy. He's want inch taller than Kenny. Why don't we double down on QB, and pick up the WVU center in round 2?
We've just proven we can get by with sub par center. Plus you know the Steelers won't go Into the draft In a needfully state. They will fill center with a FA first. Maybe it's not nix. Maybe it's some other round 1 QB. Just trying to gauge interest.
I wasn't far off

Steelers will possibly pick up a vet QB. None of which on your list are any better than Rudolph. Just more money most likely. . According to Donald rumsfeld circa 2003 we go to war with the army we have , not the army we wish we had. They're going to keep plugging in players where needed. They will back fill voids in FA and draft who they draft. So now , we have our fa center. And even picked up a tannehill type. Draft arrives and you're looking at a top tier QB pick or a top center.
I could see them signing a bunch of Wilson's. And trading for fields. Man this is easy doing it this way

I have always liked Rudolph, and would love to see him back, but I just don’t see him entertaining any offer from the Steelers.
It would be interesting to compare Justin Fields stats from his first 3 wins as a Steeler to Rudolfs stats in his last 3 wins as a Steeler.
