Why are the Steelers even considering Aaron Rogers?

I’d definitely agree they aren’t close to actually contending for what matters but I also see that Rodgers could very well be the key to a Tomlinship+1. If he gets them off the skid and brings that elusive WC round victory Art and Tomlin keep missing they will be dancing in the streets with all that winning just like it was a Lombardi.

Personally I’d rather just roll with Rudy and a draft pick for better or worse. But a possible WC victory with Rodgers followed by getting trounced in the divisional round wouldn’t make me put away my pitchfork.
The chance of even a WC victory is slim and none. Odds are we aren't gonna get a slop team in our position. We'd have to actually beat a good team. Not happening. Not with Clown-lin.

At this point I’m w either sign Russ or let Mason play…don’t think it matters as we are not as “close” as the FO/HC thinks we are.
The reason I take Russ over Rodger’s is he’s known quantity that will have better “harm aversion” and had a lower INT% and higher TD% on significantly less throws (200).
Imo, the ONLY positive of signing AR is that he will ignore the risk averse mandates and show us who we are (he’s likely to be openly critical as well). This MAY open some eyes?

I severely doubt it.

Serious question and not Russ-bashing.

Does anyone see a 37 year old Russell Wilson giving us anything significatly more than what Mason Rudolph brings to the table? I use "significantly" because Russ would cost significantly more to sign and thus eat up significantly more of the salary cap.

Do I think Russ is probably still the better QB for 2025 over Mason? Probably a little. But enough to warrant maybe $30 million in salary? I just can't see that be a worthwhile move.

At this point, I absolutely want no part of Rodgers for many different reasons. The Steelers obviously do not want Russ or they would have signed him already. So, just play Rudolph. Will he really be any worse than the other options when we still have not addressed our lack of run-stopping on the DL. I lived in Oklahoma City during Rudolph and Mayfield's college days and Rudolph was always good at launching deep balls. If they don't trade GP, just let Rudolph loose and stop living in Tomlin's fears. Let him throw it deep and lie in the bed Tomlin and Kahn have made this offseason. I actually might let Kahn off the hook on the QB fiasco as I am confident them wanting and waiting for Rodgers is his doing. He has always had a man-crush on Rodgers.

Well said.

What is the expected value of an extra $20M+ to sign RussTed vs any other vet?

Does he bring 4 more wins? 2?
And of what real value, other than picking later, does 10-7 bring vs 6-11?

Bad leadership got us here, and bad leadership is still here. So you do well to expect the dumber choice to happen. That's what bad leadership does.

Yeah, if I'm TJ or Pickens looking for a contract and a real plan for next year, I think I might prefer the extra cash buffer and the lesser expectation.

If I’m TJ Watt or even Minkah I have to be wondering where all this is going. I’d probably be asking to be traded to a real contender since their careers are starting to get a whole lot closer to the end.
Why should Watt and Minkah want to be part of this hodgepodge of nothingness. No QB1, no RB1, and an archaic offense that’s clueless.

On his podcast, Cam Heyward was very complimentary of Mason Rudolph. Said he is very popular in the locker room.

Now that he has come back, stick with Rudolph and drop the AR talk. Russ will probably sign elsewhere but so be it.

I think they're smoking crack and need to be drug tested. I'd just go with Mason at this point. The qb offseason soap opera is ridiculous. We had this stupid crap last year over the San Fran wideout, who ended up on ir anyway.

I’m wondering if Tomlin/Steelers have a sore *** about the no-audible story getting out.

The thing about Rudy and the3 draft p[ick, at least you are building for a future. Where as, Riogers is for the right now and we will be in the ****-ing boat next season

Now should the aged golden goose happen to win and advance to the promised land, I’ll gladly eat the BBQ’d crow, extra Habanero sauce !!!!!!

It’s all about the money, if the money is right they will stay.

I don't see Rodgers coming here with the understanding that it will be Smith and Tomlin calling the shots on offense. If the Steelers want him they will have to let him have the keys to the castle on offense. Rodgers ego would not accept anything less.
At this point I could see that scenario being a win win considering what we've been subjected to as fans for the last half decade plus on offense.
Get Rodgers, draft Jeanty or Hampton and try to boatrace everyone with the clan of misfits this offense would resemble.
What do we have to lose? In todays AFC North/ NFL you aren't winning playing conservative and trying to win on defense. We need all the firepower we can get. We got the WR, TE, We need a stud RB and a qb that gives us a punchers chance.
It would likely be a sh*tshow but man it would be fun to watch.
I would think Tomlin is ready to relinquish control to someone like A.R. He doesn't have a choice considering Rooney and the fans are fed up and going into the season with Mason as the starter does not inspire confidence...for me anyway, and I would think for most.

Kirk Cousins anyone?....LOL.

Rudy has a better record than Russ as a starter for the Steelers.

Why in the hell anyone would pine for OldeRuss?

The Steelers just need to move on from the geriatric QBs and give Rudy the true chance they should’ve years ago. If a Rookie draft pick comes in and steals his lunch, more power to the rook…that would be a great problem. Otherwise let the draft pick learn for a year.

Right there with ya

Just seems like Aaron at best has a ceiling of Tomlinship+1 which equals meaningless except to maybe Art and Shades

Rudy might be able to get ya one, not likely, but possible if Shades doesn’t turtle up again.

At any rate a Rudy bridge to a rookie at least shows some planning for a future. It sure would be great if we had someone on staff that was trustworthy of development of a young QB. Now that would be actual real planning for a future.

I agree on going with Rudy, and draft someone.

The fear I have is that Tomlin will let AR go do anything he wants to, but will hold Rudy back. So, what do we hope for?

Sorry, but for years I have felt that Tomlin is a mess, and it's getting thicker these past few years. I really believe he can only screw things up.

I feel like if they can protect Rudolph he’ll be just fine. Not gonna blow anyone away but he’ll at least be serviceable. I think you roll with him as the starter at this point considering how long this circus has gone on. Rodgers isn’t bringing a ring to Pittsburgh this year and neither is Rudolph so what’s the difference? This **** is dumb. How did a franchise as storied as the Pittsburgh Steelers end up here? I feel for the players that give themselves up for this group of snake oil salesmen.

Cuz they’re making bank, not everyone is in it for the chips. Easy gig, Wednesdays off for vets, good money, cool uncle for head coach.

Until they win anything, these guys are second tier below Deebo, Troy, Farrior, etc.

If A rod is out and with SF rebuilding maybe this would work

Pitt sends Pickens
future 2026 rnd 2 pick
2027 rnd 3 conditional it can become rnd 2

SF sends
RB Cmac
QB Purdy Pitt Extends 5 years 150 million 60 million guaranteed
This puts the team in a all win mode with a good QB, and you have 4 man rotation at RB of Warren C mac draft a banger like Mullings in the 4th and you have ur scat back gainwell for those swing and screen passes

Why would Purdy take less than DK? You'd have to bump that total number up to around 250, and the guarantee to 80. But that's still not enough draft capital for a young QB AND an all pro RB.

I doubt the Steelers will trade away next years 1st or 2nd round pick since the draft is in Pittsburgh. To not give the fans the opportunity to see their 1st round pick and then to have a Steelers legend present the 2nd round pick and rile up the fans will (and should) upset countless fans. The Steelers will never get a SB and the draft will only come around every few decades. They want this to be special for the city, the team, and especially the fans.

Why would Purdy take less than DK?
Because people are still under the delusion that the Pittsburgh Steelers are a preferred destination for high end talent and actually believe high caliber players will take less just to play here. Maybe at one point, but not anymore.
