Will Deshaun Watson get a Ben Roethlisberger-style Punishment, or a Pass?

Meh i mean if they wanted to stay consistent and deter the behavior they should just take his fully guaranteed contract, divide it by 85 and multiply it by the games he gets suspended for so a six game suspension would be 2.7 million or so per game

That or just factor his signing bonus into account and make him forfeit a bit of that… it was 45 million… that adds about a half mil per game to his suspension

On Browns message board, one guy said the difference is Rooney isn’t there erasing Roethlisberger’s 22 counts.

Another said this:

“Didn't rape anyone, didn't assault anyone, didn't get involved in a murder cover up (Hi, Ray!), he wanted the masseuses to touch his junk. I'm sure it happens all the time. And when you get an attorney with a vendetta that promises these young massage therapists that they can get paid, then the stories start pouring in”

I don’t know what Watson did or didn’t do. I will say that I actually read the police report & official statements in 2010—many of which directly contradicted what was “reported” in media because the Roethlisberger camp wasn’t going to talk & most of the more sensational stories just could not be true as there was no way for the accuser’s friends to see what happened.

Theses ******** are so desperate to win they won’t even take the time to look at what he’s accused of, which is pathetic

A poll was taken on a Browns board by those who to this day utter Ben "RapistBerger".
Below is the poll followed by one of the few honest answers.

Everybody has an opinion. And honestly none of us know what happened for sure. Do you believe:

A. all of these women are lying or exaggerating looking for a quick buck. No conviction equals no problem.

B. some of them are lying (enough to disqualify the whole case) and jumped on the bandwagon. No conviction but still troublesome.

C . he probably went over the line but it wasn't forcible rape so boys will be boys.

D. he did it and should face the consequences.

F. something else

Many either chose A or B and many didn't answer but rather deflected with **** like "I don't go to the NFL for my morals".

This poster exposed the hypocrisy and made known he was the first to give a D:

Let me be the first:

D

Which I believe would be everyone's choice had Watson gone to any one of the teams in the division, especially the Steelers...having replaced a retired sexual predator QB with another.

You guys know it would.

He doesn’t claim nothing happened, just that it was all between consenting adults…. At best he basically paid for sexual favors… if he sexually assaulted 22 women it should be a lifetime ban, but that will never be proven whether it happened or not, so instead we look at a base of what an athlete got for putting himself in a situation that embarrassed the league but wasn’t proven in court… that was six games by Ben… so he should get that with some amendments to make sure he doesn’t weasel out of the fines

The NFLPA will definitely have a hand in the punishment and fine incurred.

I do see BEN's punishment ONLY as a starting point but Watson's should be double at minimum. Watson's fine has to dig into more than his 1st year's salary as that was fixed in anticipation of this possible fine.

BROWNs fans seem to be far from the higher educational body in A'merica.

The Browns fan that answered "D" answered out of years of frustration and being owned by the STEELERS, most notably by BEN ROETHLISBERGER. No team in the history of the NFL has been dominated to the degree of Ben dominating the Browns.

One thing for sure, folks have to understand Goodell doesn’t have the czar title anymore when dishing out suspensions and fines to players. This was eliminated from the last CBA. Now, all punishment/suspension/fines are metered out by a group of three. Troy Vincent is the head of that group. The Commish isn’t involved in the issuance of fines or suspensions but he does have partial involvement. The primary issue he will be dealing with is how the franchise circumvented the $$ of fines by structuring his salary his first year. That is a violation of the NFL‘s team cap protocols. No doubt the NFL is waiting on the appeal from MLB’s 2 year suspension on Bauer’s DV accusation. If the suspension is upheld, NFL will have more latitude to issue a year‘s suspension.

Ike, what do you think the odds of Watson getting a full year suspension ?

I think it is slim, very slim. I think he gets 12 with 4 suspended but the $$$fine$$$ will be a little more creative. I think the fine will be more where Godell will have his thumbprint on it.

If the fine can not be greater than game checks then I think the suspension could go the full year just due to the money side.

If I were a Browns fan I would be prepared to not see Watson this year. Browns already signed another QB, so they have three that can play now even if Watson is suspended for the year and they pay Baker to sit at home. Baker has the cards now. He’s already moved on from Cleveland. Has said he won’t play for them, moved his football camp back to Oklahoma and I believe has already moved from his residence. So CLE better hope CAR or SEA bends over and trade for him, otherwise they are eating Baker‘s cap hit while he’s getting healthy in another state and improving his image (being the jilted QB, I might add).

Here is the main reason, why I wouldn't expect Watson to play this year; while the Browns FO and Haslam can all say they diligently researched the man, and says they feel confident in their decision, the fact is they didn’t do jack in investigating what happened. They interviewed none of the accusers, only held talks with Deshawn and his representation. However, the NFL is performing an in-depth investigation on the occurrences, INCLUDING speaking with already some of the accusers. They are not finished yet, but some are reporting Watson‘s claims of consensual acts are not what he interprets it to be. The league isn’t reviewing his situation as a crime, because he hasn’t been charged with one. What they are looking into very hard is the the NFL Shield personal conduct policy, which includes a morale clause. Watson being a QB, would be subject to more scrutiny than others.

GREAT post Ike, thank you.

The way they structured his 1st year of the contract also shows collaboration of protecting / preparing for a long term suspension. I think that in itself admits to a degree of guilt and the NFL big cheese will take it that way as well. The NFL will NOT be screwed out of money weather fair earned or fined from players ( I know it goes to charity but in the nfl name).

Time will tell and I'm thinking the more we find out the more F-ucked the Browns will be on this move, factor in the trade capital and you can see a big ****-show of a deal and not to mention the fiscal gaurantee with it.

no reason to let this slip off the first page...

Takes a lot of balls to do something like that.

I could care less and don't have the image ingrained but I wonder if t*mmyb*y had that problem with Gauraro (sp), his TB12 massause ?

Maybe it's a commen thing amongst these prime athletes.

I am sure Alex gave him some thorough rubdowns.

I still cant believe Cleveland mortgaged the farm for this guy. I dont see any way he skates free if any of the cases turn out to be true I dont see how he would get less than a year suspension. His attorney is also an idiot and certainly wont help his case. i think it would be difficult for some guys on the team to respect him and create some team chemistry problems.

He'll get a pass because happy endings are not illegal!

Yes, but if he is physically masturbating in front of the masseuse until the happy ending happens, that can be considered some form of sexual assault. This dude needs at least one year off and if we had a consistent commish, it would be more than that. He has the longest pattern of behavior of bad conduct that has come to light in the past 30 years that I can remember. Watson should be a statement piece and his suspension should be higher just for the amount of BS he apparently tried to get away with.

“Physically masturbating”. …..is there any other kind?

Well the one time we need our troll poster to answer a question................ he goes and gets banned yesterday.

Lawyer speak. His attorney was trying to say him getting a happy ending was just fine. I think most happy endings come with some form of physical touching.

This. So you see his pecker and he is rubbing one out. So you just stand there and watch or run out the room? Even if he is the road runner with it, has to be at least two minutes. So she stood there and watched him go at it for several minutes and if we believe shot it across the room like John homes?

Watson got an erection, but that he continued to masturbate in front of her and then ejaculated, getting some on her chest and face.

This is what I'm saying. She stopped the massage, yet watched him rub one out and stayed close enough for him to blow a nut on her chest and face? LOL. Ok.

What she couldn't have been disguised and froze up? Women react differently to every like situation. Some could be lying sure. But 24? I wouldn't count on a lot of them being dishonest. Even the lawyer isn't acting like his client is innocent.

1 or 2 cases I take more of the wait and see approach. As they increase the odds of innocence goes down dramatically...
