Knowing what you know now. Would you rather have:
A) Kenny Pickett at #20
B) Desmond Ridder at #52
C) Malik Willis at #84
D) Matt Corral at #84
E) Sam Howell at #138

I was leary about Pickett's one good year. But I think he is the most pro ready. I think Corral brings excellent value.

But I think Pickett still might be the best of the bunch. Better to swing and miss than don't try and he turns into something special. It is a necessary evil when a club thinks a QB could be the one. You don't say oh my third favorite might bring good value.

No when you need a QB and he is available..

swing.

Pickett I think was the right choice at one. The others I don’t think will amount to much, maybe Ridder will. I think Liberty Biberty Malik is nothing more than a project that could take many seasons to develop and that’s if he develops. Kenny is almost and I say almost plug n play ready. I like his work ethic, attitude, maturity, and overall ability. He has a strong enough arm, can make all the throws, good decisions and goes through his reads well, and has sufficient mobility and he is a leader. Ridder I think can be a decent starter in a couple years but needs more work but could be a decent starter. Corral what would concern me is the stuff about suffering from depression and an issue in the past with drug abuse which I read yesterday. Don’t know the extent or details but sounds like why he slipped. Do think if he works hard and gets the depression combatted could turn out being a very good starter in a couple years.
Howell I think could make it as an ok backup.
I keep hearing that Kenny had one good season. So did Joe Burrow who was second string at OSU and didn’t breakout until he went to LSU and had a great senior year. Not comparing the two QBs but just saying you can’t say Kenny only had one great season and leave it that. The kid made himself better every year and watch him do the same here.

The Pickett selection makes a lot more sense when we see that the guys a lot of us really wanted at 20 (Jordan Davis, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Treylon Burks, Trevor Penning) were gone. If the Steelers had passed on Davis or Penning to get Pickett, I would be disappointed.

They didn't.

Once Davis and Penning were drafted, I was ok with Pickett (after about 15 minutes blowing steam).

Yeah, Pickett was fine after Penning went. Penning is who I wanted who I figured might be there. I would have been fine if they picked Pickett over Davis. Reading about the guy for some reason I think Dan Wilkinson from years ago. To me, any corner that would have a chance to be more shutdown in today's NFL would be gone way early, so passing on some of the corners that were there was fine. I know that fatso Madden was annoyed with that. And Dulac thought they should have traded down and they would have still gotten Pickett. Well, no one knows that.

Would've gladly taken either of the trade back scenarios right after us over KP at 20, it felt like a reach happening where we should be trading back.

29, 94 and 121 were had for pick 21 so we should've been all over that deal in my opinion, if KP still there at 29 (likely) then it doesn't feel like quite the reach with the addition of a late 3rd and 4th. If he was gone by 29 keep waiting (as I had suggested predraft) until the run starts in the 3rd round and grab whoever...Willis, Corral, Ridder

I’d still say Pickett. As others have said in other threads, in todays game, a badass corner is still at mercy of todays anti-defensive rules. The best tackles/WR’s were gone and no defensive 3-4 lineman was worth 1:20. If Bush is 1 more and done I wonder about the Utah LBer, but all in all I’m fine with how it broke now.

Pickett. Ridder is really the only other guy I had any hope for. Willis and Corral have ways to go as both are pretty much one-read QBs and Howell is nothing more than an NFL backup.

I 100% agree with this. I remember when we drafted Artie Burns right before the Broncos traded up to get Paxton Lynch. Colbert was so dead set to draft a CB come hell or high water that even though William Jackson was obviously their guy and was taken right ahead of them he couldn’t see past the need and made two mistakes. 1. Forced a position to be drafted and didn’t follow their board. 2. Didn’t reset and look at the more than fair offer the Broncos were offering to move up. “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” I personally am not upset at seeing Colbert go. I feel the game has passed him on too. We need someone who has the ability to adapt in charge. Not a rigid dinosaur who is too predictable. He had 3 QB’s rated as first round picks. We could have drafted any of them in the second and definitely 2 of 3 in the third. Thanks for the service Kevin but if Art the deuce knew anything about anything you’d have been gone after Jarvis Jones.

Meh, the Jarvis Jones pick wasn’t nearly as bad as some of the picks from the late 80s and early 90’s - John Reinstra, Tom Ricketts, Huey Richardson.

Not sure on that. Jarvis Jones spinal injury had him off many draft boards and his horrible workout numbers had him drop like a stone on the rest. I wouldn’t doubt he wasn’t on any teams top 50 besides ours.

How do we know the Steelers were offered a similar deal?

Problem is we married ourselves to Pickett when there are much better QBs coming out next year and in the future. We got a low ceiling guy that will not be in the same league as the Herbert's, Watson, Mahomes and Allens in the AFC .

Which much better QBs do you anticipate in next year's draft?

Whatever dude Pickett is a god among QBs. Funny thing is he is not as athletic or skilled as Trubisky who has made the Pro Bowl and has pretty good numbers with an awful Bears team. No need to draft Pickett when he is nothing but a guy.

We have no idea what Pickett will ultimately be. He might be great he might be nothing but a guy. It isn't whatever dude if you make a statement that there will be better QBs, you should be able to name atleast 1 who you think will support your claim.

Brice Young for just one genius. Every expert says next year's QB class is way better.

We know Pickett is not ultra athletic, we know Pickettt does not have a great arm . Funny most could see Baker Mayfield was not athletic, was not blessed with a great arm and was just a guy. It doesn't take a great deal of ability to see Pickett is a mediocre guy way over drafted as evidence by QB desperate teams passing over him. Exactly what traits do you think Pickett possesses to become a great QB. We have a better QB on the roster and now that Tolin has his guy you can damn sure bet he will play Pickett regardless if he is better than Trubisky. That is what happens when you pick a QB in the first round, he plays , especially an old , 24, rookie QB. If he is bad, do we draft a better QB in the 1st round next year and hurt the Pitt guys feelings, thought not.

Yeah, and at this time last year, many of those same "experts" were proclaiming that Sam Howell and Spencer Rattler were going to be top five overall picks in the 2022 draft. How'd that work out?
