Would you rather?

Rudolph had no chance at beating Roethlisberger out. None. People still had a conniption. Pickett has a legitimate shot at starting. So you think people will just say it’s ok that Trubisky and Rudolph two punchline QB’s for us are ahead of Kenny?

Nah, there will be plenty of grumblings.
I'm just saying throwing a QB that was reached for in the draft to the wolves is down right dumb... Fans can grumble all they want it's just about being smart and not emotional over it. At this point Pickett is not even a punch line.

But paying your first round pick to sit behind two QBs that at one point the fan base mocked is just asking for ridicule from the fans and media.

I see what you are saying. That RPO system he ran was primarily one read and run. But he would have been a late 3rd pick. Could he pickup an nfl offense would definitely be something to evaluate. Hard to do without going over scenarios and seeing how much he understands progressions.

Is it any different than Pickett throwing all but 4 passes out of the shotgun? Is this formation it screams pass. Well your could run a draw. RPO or not he faced far better competition than Pickett. At least Corral threw passes under center last year. Down the filed ( 9.1 ) He was more accurate than Pickett and threw less picks, He ran the offense his coach called. Corral in round three is good value, Pickett in round one seems like a minor reach. And those fumbles for Pickett ( 26 lost ) and taking 3rd longest in the FBS per pass ( in the shotgun, he has extra time ) projects disaster with our line. Pickett must work on processing speed. I don't do character reports, which could explain Corrall's slide.

Yinz should love the Pickett selection now ol Johnny after the fact has his say. He put the thinner on Corral too. Stick a fork in him he is done.

Knowing what you know now. Would you rather have:
A) Kenny Pickett at #20
B) Desmond Ridder at #52
C) Malik Willis at #84
D) Matt Corral at #84
E) Sam Howell at #138
none of the above

From what I've read, Kiffin basically dumbed down the offense for Corral and that's why his numbers took off last year.

We already have a few posters that need dumbed down to explain **** to we definitely don't need a QB with the same issues.

This is the same group that had a first round grade on Rudy
Well now we got 2 Rudy’s…effin awesome
Two Rudys? They are nothing alike. Pickett will be light-years ahead of Rudolph in a short period of time, especially running Canada's offense. You'll discover this quickly in preseason.

Thanks for a taste of my "second" supper !!!

Salute the nation

The 2 Rudy comment is in regard to us putting higher grades (1st round) than the rest of the league (3rd round) on these QBs

We seem to think average (at best) QBs are first round talent as compared to the rest of the league.

Hopefully they got this one right! As far as preseason and KP showing out first round talent quickly I won’t hold my breath. Would love to be wrong, but I’ll believe he’s more than a backup when he shows out consistently and not until then no matter how many homers love the pick because he comes from Pitt.

Time will tell and hope I don’t have to say “told ya so”

You don't know necessarily where Pickett is drafted if the Steelers don't take him at #20 (no one does), and you certainly can't possibly say for sure that the rest of league had a third round grade on him. Totally different circumstances than Rudolph.

I hope so too. What we do know is that you don't have to hold your breath about Rudolph being anything better than a backup. He is what he is. We haven't seen Pickett take a snap for the Steelers yet, so he'll get his opportunity to show out. Let's wait and see.

And where KP attended college has nothing to do with my opinion of him -- I'm a Penn State fan.

Topseed you’ve gotta be the first non Pitt fan that I’ve chatted with that is really high on KP.

Sincerely hope he makes me eat a very large plate of crow…so far only one first round pick in the last 2-3 decades has done that to me though.

Can’t wait to see, and hope I’m reaching out for gravy recipes come this season for that plate of crow. I’m rooting for ya KP, but **** o root for em all after we call their names…even Jarvis!

I watch a lot of college football, and Pickett caught my eye early last season. Then I started watching Pitt more frequently, and I liked what I saw. Although I would say that I'm less high on KP than I am just happy that the Steelers didn't go with Willis. And I liked the Trubisky signing, too. I mentioned in another thread that I would have gone with Jermaine Johnson in round one, and taken a chance on Ridder later. They are razor-thin at OLB, in my opinion, and JJ would have been a perfect fit.

So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Pickett will turn out to be a good pro, like you and most everyone else here.
