WTF, maybe we're all just total idiots.

coach of the year usually goes to the coach of a team that everybody thought would suck, but then they make the playoffs. The steelers have been written off going back to Ben's last few years. Steelers make the playoffs as a wildcard and Tomlin is credited as doing a great job.
True. I could see how he got votes, so I wouldn’t call those that voted for him idiots and be in the state of shock as some here are.

But if I were voting, losing 5 straight to quality opponents would be a big turn off…for me it kind of wipes out the reasons you described.

If he had at least pulled off one convincing win out of those 5, I believe his vote tally would have shot up…. or at least be competitive in those games rather then receiving the azz kicking they got.

I think the talent is chronically undervalued at beginning of season. He gets in the discussion when they "outperform" expectations. Teams adjust and he is out of the running.
Yeah, I think this is accurate.

Austin may or not be terrible, but the defense is Tomlins. Tomlin is a defensive genius so if he was not happy with the way the D was being called or run he would fire Austin or take over duties. Crashing on Henry without the ball over and over should tell you all all you need to know about how smart the D is run. If it was not Tomlin's idea they could have switched up.
