Yep. Oh the irony. If I'm not mistaken wasn't that the case also with Kenny? His senior year.

Yep. Oh the irony.
Very much so. Which was one of his questions marks. One of the reasons he wasn't picked higher. If I'm not mistaken wasn't that the case also with Kenny? His senior year.
Except Kenny wasn't picked second overall. He lasted a decent amount of time in the 1st due to his concerns. Which he still has...Yep. Oh the irony.
Rudy had inflated system concerns , athletic concerns, pocket awareness concerns but was known to have good touch on those long passes.Hmmmm...So the only one not a one-year wonder was Rudolph.
Apparently he did quite well throughout his college career.

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2023 season has been one to remember and one to forget at the same time. Although they’ve struggled offensively, they’ve won games thanks to strong defense and good coaching. However, a part of those offensive issues has been the quarterback.
The Steelers will play their third QB of the season in Week 16 when Mason Rudolph starts. Before he got his shot in the NFL, Rudolph was a college star with some impressive stats.
Mason Rudolph’s College Stats
Rudolph was born July 17, 1995, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He attended Westminster Catawba Christian School before transferring to Northwestern High School.
In his high school career, Rudolph passed for 10,986 yards and 132 touchdowns. He accounted for 80 total touchdowns in just his senior season.
After his dominant high school career, Rudolph was ranked as a four-star recruit according to Rivals.com. He went on to commit to and play for Oklahoma State University, where he spent four seasons.
During his four years, he passed for 13,618 yards, 92 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. In his senior season, he passed for 4,904 yards, 37 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. On top of that, he added 17 career rushing touchdowns.
During his time at Oklahoma State, he was named second-team All-Big 12 in 2017 and also won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Sammy Baugh Trophy, and Camping World Bowl MVP.
After his successful time in college, Rudolph was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Steelers. Pittsburgh moved up three spots in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to select him, and he’s been with the Steelers ever since, playing in 18 career games. Rudolph was the sixth quarterback selected in the 2018 draft.

In his 18 career games, Rudolph has passed for 2,369 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He’s also started 10 games, going 5-4-1. Most of his starts came in 2019, when he started eight games, passing for 1,765 yards, 13 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
Rudolph’s start in Week 16 will be his first since 2021, when he started one game, resulting in a tie against the Detroit Lions 16-16. In that game, he was 30 of 50 passing for 242 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Well, we're just gonna have to wait and see what Ford has to say about that. lolRudy had inflated system concerns , athletic concerns, pocket awareness concerns but was known to have good touch on those long passes.
Steelers were high on both prospects but obviously took more stock in Kenny.
I’ve always said, 20 other players on the field and no one else from either team heard a N-bomb.Now I'm convinced that he did not use these derogatory words towards Myles Garrett during that terrible incident.

Myles Garrett is a liar and came up with that a couple days later to try and reduce his suspension.
I’m not ready to anoint him as starter yet based on one good game against a team with a bad defense.

Yeah those one game samples are really hard to final decide. I just think on all the QBs we know their plus and minuses. Pickens really helped Rudolph's stats with that juking of the CB then S in route to that long run.I’ve always said, 20 other players on the field and no one else from either team heard a N-bomb.

Yep, Kenny was Jake Browning except Kenny had his one phenomenal season as a Senior while Jake was a sophomore. Now what happened in Jake's Sophomore year? He had John Ross a top ten pick at WR. What happened to Kenny in his Senior season? Oh, he had Jordan Addison a first round pick at WR. Kenny never was worth a first round pick. There's a reason an entire round and 54 picks went by until the next QB came off the board in 2022. And this is a year with no clear cut top QB. Some said Kenny, but just as many said Ridder, Willis, Corral or Howell. I figured QB might be overdrafted because of it being such a coveted position but it seems like most teams stuck by their board and waited. Not the Steelers. We reached. If I'm not mistaken wasn't that the case also with Kenny? His senior year.
Steelers did nobody dirty.
If Mason gets a chance to start next season it won't be with the Steelers.
Christmas will not roadblock agenda.
As far as this season Rudy has earned a start over Mitch.
I think we will see Kenny back under center Sunday. Just depends on if he is 100 percent healthy. Which he shouldn't see the field if he isn't.
Skills that can be objectively measured. You don’t get drafted #2 overall if you don’t check the boxes. Mitch has the best athletic ability among the Steelers QB’s and is the only one to make a Pro Bowl.“Great skill set” not imo
I value accuracy, anticipation, ability to read a field/D, leadership and being clutch
I’d say he may score an above average in 1 of those areas
What are the “great skills” he possesses?
Being drafted 2 don’t mean shut, and means even less if the Bears are the ones drafting and less yet if that player is a QB
I know I commented on that. I had mentioned that Rudolph's success would have been more gratifying if he had played against another team. What's interesting, and it may have already been mentioned, is that both Rudolph's and Pickett's best game of the year came against the same team.
Rudolph still might get a shot to shine. If Kenny isn't 100 percent he will probably get the start. Like every Steelers player I always wish the best for them as if they play well they help the team.I know I commented on that. I had mentioned that Rudolph's success would have been more gratifying if he had played against another team.
If Kenny Pickett would have been in the 2018 draft he would have been a 6th round pick. Somewhere in that Mike White to Luke Falk range. See, the Quarterbacks job is to get the ball in the hands of the playmakers first and foremost. Rudolph did play in a system that helped him statistically which is probably why he dropped in the draft. Of course in 2017 I said Pat Mahomes was the best player in the draft but Mitch Trubisky went #2 because his numbers weren't inflated like Mahomes in that Red Raiders offense. How did that work out. Rudolph might not be as quick as Kenny but in the scheme of things a 6-5 235lb QB typically isn't going to be quick. He has some straight line speed and is big enough to lower he shoulder like Ben used to and put a lick on the defender. Good enough to get it done I guess. But what you want from a QB is to know where to throw the ball, stand strong in the pocket, and deliver an accurate pass. Not run out of a clean pocket and miss the wide open receiver. Which you can look at my old posts where I show this from Kenny time and time again. Slashsteel has an elementary school knowledge about football. When I say that I mean my eight year old would talk circles around him and have his eyes glazed over. And I am not being mean I am being honest. My eight year old can identify a dig route and Slashsteel can't.Well, we're just gonna have to wait and see what Ford has to say about that. lol

True that any convincing win is a good day in Steelerland.I dont know how the last 2 games are going to unfold. but I can tell you this without a doubt. Rudy had the best game a Steelers QB has had in a long time. It was exciting tio watch. and if nothing else we had a couple of days that we all could watch NFL channel or something else without hearing how the Steelers suck. It has been a few good days.
IMO, Pickett's biggest issues is every weakness he had coming out of the draft has been glaring in the NFL and his biggest strengths in his final year at Pitt have been non-existent. It's a bad combination and the biggest reason for lack of production. If Kenny Pickett would have been in the 2018 draft he would have been a 6th round pick. Somewhere in that Mike White to Luke Falk range..
The whole "eat crow" bullshit is comical to me. Rudolph played very well, indeed, at home against the 28th ranked pass defense in the league. Pickett also played well, on the road, against the Bengals a month prior, with a 97.8 passer rating. This rating would have (and should have) been 112.3 had Tomlin challenged the 15-yard incompletion to DJ where the ball was thrown perfectly and Johnson got three feet down in the end zone before losing possession.I’m not ready to anoint him as starter yet based on one good game against a team with a bad defense.
Spot on. I forgot about that should have been TD. Very good points. The whole "eat crow" bullshit is comical to me. Lots of career backup quarterbacks come in for a game or two and perform admirably. Like Josh Dobbs. Then a month later, after reality sets in, he's on the inactive list on game day. They're career backups for a reason -- they can come in and win a few games for your team, but that's about it.
That being said, I'd expect Tomlin to stick with Rudolph this week against Seattle. There's no reason to force Pickett back into the starting lineup at this point.
EDIT: I see that Rudolph has been named the starter. No surprise.
The Steeler coaches have done a very poor job this season in getting their best QB ready for games.
Hopefully Rudy can continue his performance next game, but Steeler fans cannot even be sure that he will start with an injured Kenny and over-rated/over-paid Mitch somehow in the mix.
The coaching staff needs a huge reset; that is job 1.
