Welcome to Draft day 2025

Carson Bruener is an OK player. Backup ILB and special teamer. The new Dirty red. But i don't think they had to draft him. I think a WR like Prather would have been better.

The DB Kent? Don't know much about him but they needed another DB

Kurtis Roarke is a great pick for SF. Very much like Purdy. Roarke is hurt and may not be able to play early but he can learn the system and be a backup. Will the 49ers give Purdy a big contract?

The draft was just kinda meh to me. Nothing to get too excited about either way. I get fortifying the DL, but if we do not play the proper base D it is not going to matter. i dont know much about the RB, but I think we could have found someone via FA or undrafted. Getting Howard as late as we did was solid and the other picks were just OK.

What do you think it should be?

I switched over to ESPn after the Ewers pick. Riddick was saying he just didn;t see it on tape. He questioned his arm strength. So did Mel, saying Ewers is a backup only. How can you be frothing at the mouth demanding Shedur get picked in rd 1 with his chicken arm and then write off Ewers who played against actual good opponents and brought his team close to a championship.

Enthusiastic after what seemed to be a good start with only 2 picks in the first 3 rounds but netting Harmon and Johnson (along with DK in essence) but day 3 had a lot of WTF moments.

A luxury pick in the 4th- hope their board is correct cuz this team has holes and there were a lotta need fillers available there

A double dip in the 5th for a meh space eater that’s got as much chance to be ps bait as a 53 man spot.

Will Howard, of all the dang guys we hit that one?

And two 7th rounders that are jags that will be lucky to make the ps. Just keep drafting guys with family ties cuz that’s cute and never gets old.

For a team with a lot of depth needs, and day 3 is where that is built, I came away thoroughly unimpressed with their “haul”. If more than 1-2 of those 5 guys makes the 53 I’d be surprised. Hope my assessment is way off and wish them all well.

At least the first 2 guys didn’t include Sanders and actually look like ballers.

Ewers and Shedur are showing loud and clear, if you are making millions in NIL money, unless you get a firm 1st round grade, you should stay in college until they kick you out.

I'm wondering if Ewers had a medical red flag. Ewers could have made big money. I bet Notre Dame would have taken him.

I think we don't like bidding for UDFAs. And would rather take guys we like late.

I don't think there's really all that much that separates guys at the end of the draft from at least the higher UDFAs.

the only difference is the last name

I basically meant putting guys in position to succeed. If we use 2 DL against the ravens we will get gashed no matter who we have up there. We needed a replacement for Cam so I am fine w/ the pick, but it is not going to solve the DL issues.

Personally, I think the draft went fairly well. They squeezed a lot out of it. I wouldn't have minded taking a shot on Sanders but at least they got Howard. He has good accuracy and touch and he is a winner. That's his "it" factor. Now, let's hope Harmon's injury isn't what it appears and he doesn't need surgery.

1. Harmon - probably the most popular pick in mock drafts for the Steelers, he fills a position of future need and will be the primary rotational DL this year.
2. TRADED - in this draft, DK Metcalf>>>>>>any 2nd round prospect, excellent use of this draft pick.
3. Johnson - some Steelers analysts had him as the best option (assuming Jeanty was gone), perfect fit for this team.
4. Sawyer - added much-needed depth at OLB, the Steelers had been bringing in old veterans to fill this role in recent years
5. Black - plays a position that sees very limited snaps, but maybe he can see those snaps early.
6. Howard - backup capable QB drafted late.
7a. Bruener - only drafted because of his name, will compete to be a special teams ace.
7b. Kent - off-the-radar DB, but likely drafted for special teams...at least has blazing speed.

Not a spectacular draft, but a good draft. I don't really see any stars, but they got players who will help the team be tougher and stronger up front.

A change in scheme could go a long way. We have talent. They just are not being put in positions to succeed.

you think they'd have to bid on Bruener?

Tough to have a great draft with just 1 pick in the first 82. Draft experts constantly worship teams that have 3 of the top 35 picks, never asking how they accumulated such draft capital, i.e., by sucking donkey dong.

So we need like some type of hybrid base D, one that is fluid and changes depending on the opponent. 3-4 when needed and 4-2-5 when needed.

I wish they too Kaden Prather over Bruener. Prather is a big WR that can run and does not shy away from contact.

Austin, Roman Wilson and Scotty Miller are small. Skowronek has size but he can't run. I really think they need another big WR in the mix.

you think they'd have to bid on Bruener?
I think they don't want to take the chance.

It also seems like we use these late round picks to get guys who have a good chance to be good ST-ers vs taking big swings at position players.

I think both strategies are reasonable.

Ultimately, I try not to get too upset about late round picks. I think there are way too many reasonable options that late in the process.

Edited to add: I'm kind of impressed that we waited until the 7th on Bruener. :ROFLMAO:

My free agent list

Nick Nash WR San Jose State 6'3 203 - played QB for 3 years before moving to WR.
Bru McCoy WR Tenn 6'3 209
DaQuon Felton WR Va Tech 6'5 213
Isaiah Neyor WR Neb 6'4 218

They could use a physical TE. I don't understand what Connor Heyward brings to the team
Luke Lachey TE Iowa 6'6 251 - he's an Iowa TE, always worth a look
CJ Dippre TE Alabama 6'5 256 - one of strongest players in the draft

Sebastian Castro S Iowa 5'11 203 very smart, played slot CB and S.
Cobee Bryant CB Kansas 6'0 180 - long arms, played mostly zone but is athletic.

I like the idea of taking swings at WR.

I think it's best to think of Heyward as a special teams ace. Bringing in another TE wouldn't hurt my feelings.
