Dulac reports Art growing impatient and frustrated

Many of The idiot social media Tomlin fan club would certainly play that card

Just remember for historical reference many of the same fans realizing Mike’s time should be expired were also ready to move on from Cowher near the end (prior to him finally breaking through, winning a SB and getting his franchise QB)…obviously cuz Cowher’s complexion 🤣

And Cowher was far more competitive through the stretch where people were ready for change…guess that was also racism???

Or maybe just maybe fans aren’t looking at race at all and just realize when a new voice is needed

The last thing that comes to my mind when analyzing Tomlin’s ineptitude is his skin color..
Yet you took the time to upvote a moron who clearly made it about race in assuming black people aren't able to come to the same conclusion rationally without bringing race into it.

Wait a minute are you saying Tomlin is black?

Naw, for me it doesnt have to do with race. If I see a coach struggling I just see a coach struggling. It doesnt matter to me if hes black or white, or Mexican or whatever.
Agree.
You're the one that brought up race so own it.
Fine enough. He was hired because of the Rooney Rule and he stays because of the Rooney Rule. At the time, the coaching search was narrowed down to Tomlin and Ron Rivera, both minorities, so it certainly looks that way. Although time has proven that Tomlin was the better choice of the two. Owned.
What evidence do you have that black people would have any more or less of an issue with Cowher or Noll even in their down years than they would with Tomlin that you would be able to "guarantee" how they feel??
Pretty much all of the Steelers fan Facebook groups.
Who cares about a Rooney Rule?
Art Rooney II.
If he would have been fired after his SB loss then it would look bad. Not almost 20 years after the fact. At the end of the day this is still a business. Most, if not all black people get that. As a business owner if im paying you 16 million a year then I expect to get a reasonable return on my investment. Being in conversation of making the playoffs is not good enough.
Exactly. Any other team would have fired him by now after 9 years with no playoff wins, and in fact getting his *** kicked in the playoffs. We're not the Browns for crying out loud, but still....
This alone will keep black people at bay with any "Rayciss" talk as you put it. The very fact you spelled it the way that you did is telling in itself, but go off and continue to expose yourself.
We've been doing that here for a long time to show that calling people "racist" is played out and meaningless, but do continue. If you want to find the racist go look in the mirror. You just don't like it when a white person is legitimately critical of a black person.

Let's see, the defense is I think dead last 32nd against the pass and 30th overall, that's pretty bad when you're The League's Highest Paid Defense. Most of the players on defense are black, the head coach is black, the DC is black, and 5 of the 6 defensive assistants are black.
So either:
1. The players and coaches listed above aren't very good at their jobs.
2. It's all T.J. Watt's fault since he's about the only white guy left to blame. In fairness, he's not playing up to the level of his paycheck.
3. Scoreboards are racist.
I'll go with #1.

Bummer when facts and statistics collide with your world view.

Clearly you havent been reading my posts if you think this is how I feel...either that or you have selective memory. I basically said everything you just said highlighted concerning Tomlin not even three posts ago so clearly youre assuming. In addition, No one has called for the firing of Teryl Austin more then I have. Check my posts. Stop assuming so much.

There are a lot of questions as to why Tomlin is still HC for the Steelers. We don't know, so people have to come up with reasons to explain it. Some say Rooney is just not a football guy, some say Rooney wants to give Tomlin some records, some say it is the race issue, others have said whatever. Either way, there is no real clear reason for this craziness. He is just not making it work these days, if he ever really was.

Those who think it is race, have lots of angles on it. The Rooney rule, a culture of DEI, Rooney being afraid of appearing racist, etc. These people are just looking for rational for Tomlin still being there. They choose the race issue to explain it. Sometimes, when these people are frustrated, it might come across poorly, or whatever, as a frustrated person commonly does.

I don't think it's race. I think Rooney just is not a football guy. I keep hoping he steps down and hands off the baton to others. That would be a time to send Tomlin on his way to the next era of his life. I think he would be a great talking head in studio. We'll see.

I don't think Burg is racist, but very frustrated. I don't think Kap is a target of any comments about race, but he is also frustrated, and not comfortable with the race angle. I hope you both - and any others - are good to each other going forward. I have learned to value both of you as posters here, and look forward to much more from both of you.

Go Steelers! Go away Tomlin!
Bingo.

Agree but firing Austin wouldn't do any good since Tomlin runs the defense. Keith Butler said as much when he retired. Three different DC's in the last ten years yet the D still has the same problems.

100% true. Firing Austin will just be another scapegoaty thingy.

99.9% of steeler fans didn't care Tomlinwas black when he was winning and 99 9% don't care he is black now that he is losing.
We just want to win. Championships not 9 games.
Sports is the great equalizer. Don't care what color or nationality you are, just win.

I still think the answer is simple. Rooney thinks Tomlin is the best guy for the job. He sees a guy that doesn't lose teams. He seems, overall, to relate well to players. Rooney looks around and sees hotshots get hired and a lot peter out.

I think he's wrong. I'm not quite sure how he balances the lack of success against that. But I don't think race or records or the Rooney rule have anything to do with it.

Nothing changes until Tomlin is gone
If he could build his own championship team he would have done it by now. He's had 15 years.

Weidl spotted scouting Carnell Tate today. They're gonna trade all their picks for WR2, not get a QB and run this garbage back in 2026 with Rodgers. I like Rodgers, but we need a franchise QB and a new coach. NE got both and is laughing at us.

The idea that it’s a racist thing or having to do with the Rooney Rule is a reach in my opinion.

Many black coaches have been fired and not a peep about race.
And that’s the way it should be.
Who knows how many were hired because of the Rooney Rule. Maybe none.
I wish we could just drop the race thing.

January and February 2025, several Black NFL coaches were fired, including :

Jerod Mayo (New England Patriots) and Antonio Pierce (Las Vegas Raiders). Mayo was fired after just one season, while Pierce was dismissed after a single full season.
Here are some of the other Black NFL head coaches who have been fired:
  • Brian Flores: Was fired by the Miami Dolphins in 2022 despite leading the team to back-to-back winning seasons.
  • Lovie Smith: The Houston Texans fired Smith after just one season in 2023. He previously coached the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
  • David Culley: The Texans also fired Culley in 2022 after one season.
  • Jim Caldwell: The Detroit Lions fired Caldwell in 2017 after four seasons and two playoff appearances.
  • Hue Jackson: Was fired by the Cleveland Browns in 2018 with a 3-36-1 record.
  • Todd Bowles: The New York Jets fired Bowles in 2019. He currently coaches the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
  • Vance Joseph: Was fired by the Denver Broncos in 2019.
  • Steve Wilks: The Arizona Cardinals fired Wilks after one season in 2019.
  • Marvin Lewis: Was fired by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019 after 16 seasons.
  • Romeo Crennel: Was fired twice after just one season.

My belief is that Art has the mindset of everyone else outside of Pittsburgh…that Mike is a damn good coach who maybe has been dealt a bad hand.

And that is all there is to it.

It’s not about reneging on the Rooney Rule.
It’s not about him being afraid to be labeled a racist.
It’s not about lining his pockets.

Hopefully this story about Art becoming impatient and frustrated is a sign.
I believe Art wants nothing more than to hold up the Lombardi in the locker room like his dad and grandfather did before him.

I think with Art it’s simple! We got our guy and we’re lucky to have him and you can’t have Mike.
I think Art is petrified of having to go through the process of interviewing and hiring the right coach again.
As far as the Rooney Rule…. That’s merely a rule put in place that makes it mandatory to interview a minority candidate. It does not state that the team must hire a minority candidate, just interview said candidate.
Art believes in his heart that he’s got the correct coach. He says as much by being satisfied enough by just not having losing seasons and being in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Although playoff spots in the NFL have become like the NHL. Seven out of sixteen teams qualify from each conference. Not that big a deal anymore.
Tim Rooney said as much last year when he said “as long as the team is above the mean”. There it is!
If Tomlin can win nine, ten games he’s just fine in Art’s eyes. They look around at the other teams that continue with losing seasons. What they fail to recognize are the up and coming teams every year.
The Lions have now become dominant, the Niners when not loaded with injuries are a force, the Rams have resurfaced, the Broncos and Pats have rebuilt, the Bucs have rebuilt, the Chargers have rebuilt.
The Steelers remain what they have been for the past dozen years. Stagnant, predictable, unimaginative, overrated, out coached, and really develop very few young players. Case in point, Benton, JPJ, Broderick Jones, Roman Wilson.
Tomlin to hide his inability to develop young players would prefer to ancquire aging veterans, castoffs easily traded for or signed.
Art I’m afraid just keeps buying in and signing the checks.
Hopefully the son Dan has a different approach and will want to forge his own path.

There’s no Drake Maye in the 2026 class. Also, don’t let Tomlin draft another QB.

Tate’s #1 on any other team in the country.

I do believe hes a good coach, but if his philosophy isnt going to change about the way he goes about doing things and he refuses to endorse the hiring of a motivated, fresh defensive mind who is well able to coordinate this defense on his own then he needs to be gone.

That being said im really tired of bigots like you constantly referring to Tomlins longevity as being falsely attributed to him being a "Rooney Rule" or "DEI" hire. You couldn't come off being more ignorant and biased. It wasnt a problem when two white coaches leaked into double digit years despite enduring periods of struggle especially in the latter part of their careers, but its a problem now.

The two white coaches were here a long time because the organization valued loyalty, stability, and family/team culture. Tomlin is around because he is a "Rooney Rule" or "DEI" hire. You dont see a problem with saying stuff like that?? Its the irony of claiming black people would scream "rayciss" all while spewing racist rhetoric throughout your own take.

I can agree with most of your points with the exception of the thing about the two white coaches.

It wasn’t a problem because he was Chuck Noll.
When you win four Super Bowls you can stay as long as you please.

Btw …Noll did win 2 playoff games during his last 10 seasons. Tomlin is approaching a 10 year drought not having won a playoff game since 2016.
Noll knew his coaching career had run its course . Tomlins career has also ran its course but unfortunately his ego is too big.

Cowher was very successful in the latter part of his career winning a Super Bowl. I don’t know how you came to the conclusion he wasn’t.
Strange that Tomlin won a Super Bowl with most of Cowhers players.

Both Noll and Cowher are in the HOF.
Will Tomlin make it?
I’ve heard arguments on why he shouldn’t.

And it isn’t because of race either.

Off the top of my head
All three Washington SBs in the 80s.
Dilfer with the Rats.
Hoestetler with Giants.
Brad Johnson with Bucs.
Nick Foles with Eagles.
And depending how you feel, I’d throw in
Russell Wilson with Seahawks.
I personally don’t think Warner is that great, either, but he’s HOF unlike any of the others above, so I’ll concede him for this argument.

I’d add Eli and maybe Flacco to that list. Peyton in 2015 was mid. McMahon wasn’t a star, and Brady was a glorified game manager in 2001.

Dealt a bad hand? By who? He gets everything and every player he wants.

Both Noll and Cowher are in the HOF.

Frankly I thought Cowher was marginal but apparently we're at a place where winning a Super Bowl gets you in the HOF.
If The Chin got in then Shades gets in. Although the sooner he retires the less tarnished his rep will be.
I've pointed out before that Marty Schottenheimer is the only eligible head coach with 200 wins not in the HOF due to his lack of playoff success.

I believe Art wants nothing more than to hold up the Lombardi in the locker room like his dad and grandfather did before him.
I'd like nothing better but I don't see it happening. They've got a LONG way to go to catch the likes of Detroit, KC, and Buffalo.

Maybe I’m wrong on this, but the Steelers may be the only organization that hasn’t fired a head coach.
And the two previous coaches with the Steelers were long tenured and eventually retired/mutually parted ways with Steelers.
I think Ron’s pointing out the obvious that if the Steelers, who have NEVER fired a head coach and were the genesis for The Rooney Rule, were to fire Tomlin, it would be the worst “look” possible from a PR standpoint. It probably would result in shouts of racism. Not from ALL people, but enough that it would be an issue.
Not trying to speak for Ron, or nose my way into this conversation. Just pointing out what we know from history with Steelers.
Pre-Noll the Steelers fired a few head coaches and longest serving head coach was eight years (they had 13 different coaches with 16 head coaching stints in just 36 years). In fact, maybe the success since is the reason they value stability nowadays, as the Steelers won nothing in the days when they turned over head coaches.

Which is ridiculous. Marty was obviously a great coach, despite the issues in the post season. He could motivate and develop talent with the best of them.

Not that the post season issues should be ignored, but the lack of post season/championship success was not held against Dan Marino when it came to the HOF.

Should a coach that won as much as Schottenheimer necessarily be held to a different standard than a great QB without a ring?

Marty built three different teams into contenders between the Browns, Chiefs and Chargers, and honestly had some bad luck in the post season with players fumbling at key points late in games.

Running into prime John Elway in the late 1980s didn't help either.

You missed my point. I dont think the longevity of any one of those three coaches had anything to do with race, but to hear/see some tell it on here the only reason why Tomlin got the job to begin with and the only reason hes been here all these years is because of his race and nothing else.

That's why I asked "why does the standard [for why he was hired and has been here this long] have to change for him because hes black [as opposed to the two long tenured white coaches before him]??" ....in other words why can't it be just because its the Rooney way like it was for the other two coaches? Meaning they vetted their coaches, they looked for the same things in each interview process, they valued what those coaches brought to the table and put on the field, they valued longevity, stability, strong leadership and a family/team culture.

When people make comments like Tomlin is a DEI/Rooney Rule hire the only reason someone makes a comment like that is because they believe race played a stronger part in Tomlins hiring and longevity rather then the Rooney way. They try and make it seem like its some white guilt thing...like they were obligated to hire him and keep him around therefore minimizing why hes was hired in the first place and why hes been around so long. I take issue with that.

No I didn’t miss your point.
In fact if you hadn’t noticed, I said I agree with most everything you said.

What I did was correct one claim you made I thought was unfair and the other inaccurate.

…and then went off subject a tad with the HOF thing.

Everyone outside of Pittsburgh does not think “that Mike is a damn good coach” as you state…some do, they are dumbasses, many don’t because they did not blink. Good lawd that’s a helluva stretch thinking his constant mediocrity is measured that well by “everyone”. Even the talking heads are turning on him…even his boot licker Ryan Clark is starting to see it.

“Dealt a band hand” lmfao
You GOTTA be kidding right???
I sure hope that is sarcasm cuz he built that hand he was dealt if we’re talking about the current Steelers.

In the past, the dumbass got dealt 3 Aces and 2 Kings in a game of 5 card draw and thought “hell I got an ace, lemme draw 4!”

Dealt a bad hand!!! He found a way to slide through having a future HOF QB, generational
RB, top WR in the league, Heath and a solid D and still not win a hand. Effing “dealt a bad hand” that dude just can’t play a hand

By belief is this is one of the most off based posts I’ll read in weeks, and that’s all there is to it.

It’s all about that $$$$
He’s a lawyer to the core
If he cares about Lombardis Mike wouldn’t be here

He either doesn’t care about championships valuing the $$$ as “winning” or he is a blubbering moron…guessing since he’s a lawyer it’s the former

I don't disagree but take it up with the HOF voters.
His style of football, strong defense and run the ball, followed by Cowher who coached under him and also by Tomlin, does not result in post-season success.
