This is key to me. If you find the right offensive mind you could be set for a decade. If you get a defensive coach and then get a good OC he's gone. Traditionally, I'd prefer a Defensive HC but the game has changed.

GM may be better suited for the chin, but then again, it's time to focus on an offensive mind.
I'm not getting into any of that bullshit. It has no purpose. When Cowher got in the HOF.....Tomlin became a lock. And we can all spin his success 15 ways. Fact is he will be a HOF coach who has been a great ambassador of this franchise. But his time should have been done when Ben was done. If not before.

Mike Tomlin is like a loved relative or good friend from out of town that came to visit for a vacation or the holiday, and overstayed his welcome because he couldn’t read the tea leaves, and the host allowed him to stay rather than jeopardize a long time relationship and risk being seen as an ungrateful friend or relative.

I wouldn't say just because Cowher got in, Tomlin was a lock. Cowher won playoff games with 5 different QB's, I wonder how many, if any other Coaches have done that. Coached teams with two different QB's to a Super Bowl, 3 different QB's in conference title games.

Whoever the next coach is he better be the reincarnation of Chuck Noll. This thing has to be completely torn down and rebuilt.

From the college ranks, of course I would love the young man from Notre Dame to move his family to Pittsburgh and become the next head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but I might have a better chance of winning mega millions tonight.

Both men have outstanding old school leadership characteristics and a proven record of turning around poorly run programs, which is what we’re living through right now.

Assuming the unassumable, and Mike is gone, maybe gamble on a young guy like Brian Hartline. Although I think he could’ve on PSUs list as they don’t seem to be in a hurry.

Pittsburgh born and bred.
However, I did live in North Central Ohio up on Lake Erie for 20 years.
The winters up there felt like I was a Canadian.
I also made many trips to Montreal on business as part of a project team to move manufacturing equipment from a Johnson & Johnson plant to a Playtex facility here in Delaware back in the day.
Do those things count to be considered an honorary Canuck?

Does anyone remember Tomlin’s contract situation was like in Ben's sunset years. To me that was the logical breakpoint. Someone else should have led the rebuild and they'd be 4 years in, min. Now, statistically it's going to be another 3-5 when Shades is gone.

Tomlin signed a 3-year extension in April of 2021. Roethlisberger retired after the season.
That was the biggest mistake and the team did not initially plan to bring Ben back. They knew he was pretty much cooked. They should have told them both their time in the burgh was over.

Ben's retirement game has been the most exciting moment for the Steelers since 2021. I'm glad he came back for one more year.
I really like Randle El as an offensive coordinator. Let him earn his stripes there. I’m not feeling Joe Brady but I can see it.
I really like Kelvin Sheppard DC of the Lions. There is just something about him and watching that defense. He has Bill Cowher energy and he seems to feed off of Dan Campbell.

I don’t know why people are offended by this. Did the Rooney Rule force them to hire Tomlin? Of course not. If they hired the white guy four years after the Rooney Rule was implemented, would it have been a bad look and would they have been lambasted as hypocrites by the media?

Look at those three and Russ Grimm. None of them did **** really as head coaches. That was a weak crop for the job to begin with. If it's a close call, the best interview gets the job. That's just my opinion, but he's been here a long *** time for being given the job based on something as intangible as that nonsense. I'm not a Tomlin fan myself, but I can see the difference between a young guy who had a great interview getting a chance and hiring some retread or a guy with just as little experience who didn't have that interview.
We all know there are folks who are what they are when it comes to the race conversation. You are not one of those, to be clear. But when some of them comment, it's embarrassingly clear. That's who I was specifically addressing. It's time for Mike Tomlin to move on, I just hope there's someone like Ben Johnson .out there after the season who can coach offense. You won't win without it in this league
