LOL, The homerism is running wild on Pittsburgh Sports radio today,

With their pass rush he will have to make quick decisions. They have not been as good against the run. Hopefully with DK back and taking attention we can get the backs going.

The Texans are 4th in the league in rush defense in YPG, 6th in YPC. Nothing will come easy Monday, defense might have to score.

I firmly believe from 2007 thru 2010 Tomlin was not only the chief benefactor of a young franchise QB, and a veteran roster, but he had two outstanding coordinators.
He pretty much had the team on autopilot in that period and pretty much just had to stay out of the way.
He didn’t run the defense and he didn’t run the offense.
He was HC and of course had responsibilities but nowhere near how much influence that he has had in the past dozen years.

Oh, I’m right here with you. As The integrity of those players left, the coaching became more and more questionable.

Sub-Coaching became non-existent.

28 NFL head coaches have won a playoff game since the last time Tomlin won one, and all 28 didn't have a top tier QB.
The full list of coaches 20 playoff games coached winning % from highest to lowest:
Gibbs
Belicheat
Noll
Reid
Cowher
Landry
Reeves
Harbaugh
Holmgren
Shula
Carroll
McCarthy
Grant
Tomlin

Great post Coryea, appreciate it. A lot of the Tomlin apologists don’t know these little stats, brings thing into reality.

With the AFC North crown, we will have the tomlin for ‘26, add in a playoff win and it’s a 3 year extension.

Maybe the Tomlin might surprise us and relieve himself of duty …

It isn’t a non scoring drought, we put that to bed this season. It is a getting outscored issue.

I guess I should have worded that a little different, how many 1st quarters has it been since we scored more than 7 points ????

It wasn’t a flattering statistic.

The front 7 is up there. The oline has potential and us a work in progress. Im thinking the tune will turn Tuesday but I hope not.
The secondary improved. With a whole offseason we may have another star safety this last game not withstanding for Ramsey. I would draft a safety in the first couple rounds and maybe one more CB and DL. Other than that all offense.

Something to keep in mind and should be called in to Joe Starkey.
Last playoff game for Aaron Rodgers came as a Packer in 2022.
It was a 13-10 loss to the SF 49’ers.
Aaron was sacked five times. Had zero passing TDs.
The DC for for that 49’ers team was, drumroll please…. DeMeco Ryans.
DeMeco Ryans will be on the sidelines Monday night in the Steel City as HC.
Buckle up Aaron, they’re coming for ya!
Our OL better play their A game.
9ers special teams and turnovers cost the Pack that game. GOAT threw for about 300...Pack had around 100 yards of rushing. Now he did get hit in the arm and turned the ball over..that was on him.

That means almost nothing. The Chiefs are 10th(and suck) and there is only a 25 yard differential(YPG) between them and the Texans. Yet the Texans have allowed 35 TDs to the Chiefs 33....stats show a lot and not everything.

The Texans are good no doubt, but they are susceptible to the run between the tackles, guards and center (A and B gap) We have the personnel to push them off the ball...now will we? That remains to be seen.

The Chiefs were the 6th best scoring defense in the NFL, it was their 21st ranked offense that held them back.

Yeah, you can pull all kinds of stats out. They are not invincible.

How many times did the Steelers under Cowher have top ranked defenses and went on to lose in the playoffs...to teams that weren't even that great offensively. The 94 Chargers game comes to mind.

You might not matchup well...you might not play as well away from home, cold weather, etc. Don't give up before one snap has been played.

Baltimore doesn't have a single player the caliber of our front line. That is the biggest reason they were 8-9.
Yeah because he went out week 1, Madubuike would be an instant starter if were on our team, so you can't use the injury to Harmon as an excuse then.

The thing about that 94 game, everyone says that was a huge upset because the media was all in on the Steelers that game and gave SD no chance. Yes it was in Pittsburgh and the Steelers were favored, but the thing no one remembers is SD had a top 10 defense and a top 5 OFFENSE, they also played a tougher schedule than the Steelers did. That wasn't the upset everyone likes to make it out to be.

Yeah, but…
Stan Humphries?
One of the worst losses in Steeler history
Right up there with the Browns playoff loss and the Super Bowl losses

Neil Odonnell, lol. The loss absolutely sucked for sure, because it was our first home AFCCG since the 70's, but it wasn't the upset everyone thinks, SD wasn't some 8-8 team, they were a pretty good team.

That Steelers team should’ve kicked their ***, especially at home in bad weather to boot.
Coach Cowher screwed the pooch that day. Very disappointed.

It was fairly warm that day, if I remember correctly. Just out of curiosity how did Cowher screw the pooch? He did the exact opposite of what everyone always criticized him for.

IMO..
Because he was the head coach and heavily favored at home in an AFC championship game.
He had the much better squad and it was pretty evident to me while watching it, his team was not ready and prepared for what was coming at them.
The Chargers staff, led by Bobby Ross of all peoplemade them look silly.

That's just it, they weren't the much better squad. SD had the 5th ranked offense, and 9th ranked defense while playing a tougher schedule than we did. We were ranked like 17th in offense. The beat prime Marino the week before and were in a division with Montana and Elway, not saying we shouldn't have won, but they were a very good team, pretty much on par with us.
Not ready or prepared? we were up by 10 in the second half.

There just statistics Tom.
That Steelerteam was much better than the Chargers team that year. It was very evident in the Super Bowl that the Chargers advance to and played in, and got whooped and embarrassed.
We would’ve definitely gave San Francisco a much better contest.. and had the team to win that game.
As far as being prepared, we gave up 37 points at home in an AFC championship game to a mediocre charger offense led by Stan Humphries.
That’s just the way I see it buddy.. and actually did see it.

We gave up 17 points, we lost 17-13.
Their offense was much better than ours.
