Ben Roethlisberger: Don't plan on Mason Rudolph replacing me for a while

Ben being irritated might not be such a bad thing.

Rudolph will try to show, Ben will show and have a little more motivation to do so.

I really see this situation as a win win when it goes to the Steelers and to Big Ben.

You will probably get less of the Brett Favre year to year retirement banter now too.

We aren't going to go from Ben retiring right to us being AFC contenders.
I'd rather drafted someone to help us win in 2018. Bells last season, AB turns 30 this July, Heyward and Pouncey will be 30 next year. The window on this group is closing.

If they don't win with the current team then there's a problem beyond roster talent (obviously) because it's loaded with skilled players in critical positions. Getting Haden and Burnett, two proven leaders and talented guys, keeping Bell with the tag, investing in a top 3 WR in the draft this year, investing another 2nd round in a WR last year (and what a player Juju is!), keeping the whole Oline under contract to protect Ben.... I mean, how can anyone say that they are not making an effort to win Now?

This team is loaded with talent, if they can't win it with what they have I doubt a 3rd round player could help them win it this very year.

Rudolph not being picked in the first or second is just a testament to the team saying they want to win Now and did all they thought was best to accomplish it, but once they got an starting Defensive player and a top WR that can help immediately And saw that their 1st round talented QB was still there they felt they had their "Win Now" homework done and invested in top talent for the future at a small cost.

And hey, who could be sure that Ben isn't gonna miss a game or two this coming seasons? Aging is a *****

Ben tells the team he will consider retirement every year until the end. He is 36 and has taken a tremendous amount of punishment. The team had a chance to draft a high-potential player and did the right thing. Are they supposed to wait until Ben retires and hope a good QB falls to them again? Hell no.

I can't defend Ben on the comments. Total douchebaggy. Sounds more like Jeff George than a 2-time SB champion. I hope he acts differently in private with Rudolph. Everything I hear in the local media about the kid is positive.

Exactly. The dumbest thing they could have done would be to try and appease Ben's wishes and say, "Oh hell if something happens to Ben, who is 36 and talks about retiring every single year, let's do nothing and ride with Landry Jones into the future." Yeah that should ******* work great.

Ben is acting like a big baby and not a team player. Almost sounds like Bell is rubbing off on him.
 
IMO---the underlying reason for Ben's latest attention ***** moment is that his *** is chapped that he now the 12th highest paid QB in the league...

I can understand Ben standing up for his colleagues, Landry and Dobbs, saying that he feels bad for them, likely to be replaced by a new draft pick, but on the other hand, does he feel that all the players who didn't retire shouldn't be pushed out by better and younger draft picks? We shouldn't draft a DL because that means someone is (Big Dan) going to lose his job? Or does he only like QBs (who can't push him for the starting job)?
 
Gentlemen (and ladies)...c’mon are you not surprised about this? We are talking about Ben here. There is always something Ben throws in the hat to get his word in.

Yep, they are off to a great start for again leading the league in drama, selfishness, and negative headlines this season. It will lead to their downfall, no leadership to be found to put a stop to this ****.

Need a stronger, diciplined coaching staff that shows by example. They fired one **** head and still have Joey, you know the one who cat called his boy's coache's durring a game......... The one who thinks he's still great......................

They had to draft Rudolph where they did since there was way to much value to have passed on him.
This was a very pro active pick looking towards Ben’s eventual replacement whenever that occurs.
Ben has been inconsistent the last two off seasons going from needing time to think about if he wanted to play another year to I may play 3-5 years, to let’s take it year by year to see how I feel. That to me says it all which explains the pick of the talented Rudolph.
And what third round pick was going to immediately help now anyway? Hell, if Rudolph is as good as most think, he may push the elite Landry Jones for the backup job.

Rudolph was questioned about Ben's interview and he answered with "I'd probably would have said the same".

This kid keeps saying the right things. Very mature and professional

I hope Ben gets at least two more years at the helm, with at least one SB win and then ride off in to the sunset with Rudolph making a smooth transition.

Yep, same here. Doesn't mean the Rudolp pick was a waste though. It would be a freaking tragedy to do as Ben apparently wants and wait until he retires to bring on the "heir apparent".
 
The point at which Rudolph can outperform Ben for less will be the end of Bens time here. I like Ben. I believe he is capable of winning one more SB. But time moves on. The pick was easy and smart. They will likely dump Dobbs. Part of the business.

I don't think Ben has missed a game due to injury in the last two years. The problem is that you never know which Landry Jones you're going to get on a given day, Ben v2.0 or Johnny Manziel. Rudolph I think was just too good to pass up where they drafted him. If Jones is the future then we're in a world of trouble.
 
I wonder what Ben's response would of been if we drafted a QB in the first round....

I get that Ben is on the back 9 of his career but when you score 42 points in a playoff game and lose, the offense shouldn't be your priority in the draft.
