According to Tomlin. If anybody heard his end of year press conference, it's clear Tomlin thinks Shazier had minor injuries that he could have played with, but chose not to.

This whole team could use some toughening up. That was the main takeaway from the ravens game. The ravens are tough, the Steelers are soft.

keep draft finesse players and that's what you get ..

Is it a reflection of the team and players or of society in general? Tons of people tell me young people today are all soft. It's just how it is. Then there is this.

I read back in November about the coaching staff thinking that Shazier is soft.

Where did Tomlin say that?

His last press conference. He didn't outright say that but his message was clear when Shazier's name came up. If somebody can find a transcript of it, I believe Tomlin referred to Shaziers injuries as Boo Boos. He strongly implied he thought Shazier should have been able to pay through most of them.

It's a common problem with fast players. If they aren't 100%, they don't want to play.

Well when toughness isn't a quality you draft for anymore, that's what happens

On that note, what I read was in a chat with Fittipaldo or Bouchette (can't remember which). No quotes from the coaches, but indicated they were not happy with it.

Give me a group of guys with the mentality and heart of Lambert,Greene,Lloyd,Shell,Harrison,Webster,Ward,Bettis,Bleier all on one team i will win more championships then you could fathom. They really need to stop drafting cupcakes.

The entire team is soft and it is the coaches fault. I said this back when they picked up that free agent (can't recall his name) and he got in a fight in his first practice. He was going hard and the OL was not. The one lineman (can't recall who since it was weeks ago) said they don't practice hard during the week because they just played in a game and are tired. Sorry but with the lack of practice in the offseason, camp (less than 2 hours per day) and even during the season, they must go full speed at all times. That is why they were getting beat on Sundays. Sure, they came out and said they don't take their Monday off and hit the weights but that means squat if you don't practice hard. Practice is what leads to your performance on the field. This is totally on the coaches.

I watched the whole presser (it's up on the official site). The only time I recall him mentioning Shazier, was when he was talking about how they do these year end exit interviews, how it's a time for reflection, of gleaning things from the season that players can learn from. He mentioned that he thinks some players can learn from the experiences of other players, of things that they may not be aware of, of what type of struggles some of them have gone through. Here he points out that for instance Shazier may not be aware of the journey that Sean Spence went through. I'm presuming how Spence faced a dire future, maybe never being able to play again, and how far he's battled back from that devastating injury to continue his playing career. I reckon this is for a young player like Shazier to see how hard others have had to work to get to where they are.

My understanding of the context of this discussion is not along the lines of the original post in this thread, that this was meant to reference Shazier being a *****, or having to do with his bumps and bruises et al. I didn't hear or see anything that was a condemnation of Shazier.

Maybe Tomlin should have drafted the bigger, better Moseley instead of the pumped up safety.

THIS /\ /\ /\ CJ played like a beast as a rookie and he was taken 2 spots after Shazier. The Steelers did it again: They tried to be tricky and cute and draft no one thought should be taken that high. The guy looked back around 212 by season's end. And he himself said that the NFL was tougher than he thought. I think he played scared out there. Every player is a beast out there and Shazier wasn't prepared for that. Now the only question will be: Who is the bigger bust, JJ or Shazier?

It was Wolf on Tunch and Wold today that said Tomlin called Shazier's injury a "boo boo." Not sure when and where he said that, they didn't elaborate. But that caused Tunch to say that whenever a coach uses the word boo boo, he's questioning your toughness or your manhood.

Man watched shazier in camp and his first preseason game looked like he was a sure hall of famer. Weird how his seaon went. That said Vince Williams was a nice surprise. That boy ain't no *****!

Are you saying no one thought Shazier shouldve been taken that high? I'm pretty sure EVERYONE thought he was going that high. Especially Dallas. Shazier will be fine. I' m alot less concerned about him than Jones.

Shazier is a kid yet. He came out early, right? He still has to learn what it is to be a pro football player. This is one of the downsides to drafting younger kids. He probably thinks he works hard and is tough. I think we all learn that. when we are young, we think we are hard workers and so on, only to realize that we can work harder, or better or smarter or whatever. I am a hell of a lot better at my job than I was many years ago when I began.

Let it play out. Maybe he remains a *****. But if he figures it out, I contend in a few years he will be a better pick than CJ Moseley.

Not saying he is the next Troy but I'd love to be able to go back and see what so many on here said about Troy when he didn't start or play much until his third year. He turned out to be a lock for the HOF.

i heard that. Nobody sticks up for players more than Tunch and Wolf and when they brought up that Tomlin was calling him soft and they did not dispute that at all, it said a lot.

They also seemed almost annoyed when they talked about how small Jarvis was. Not only has he not added weight, he's smaller than ever. I think it was Dulac who said he thought Jarvis looked like he weighed about 180. He then added that when he brought it up to Jarvis, that he gets testy about it, saying that he's better when he's lighter and that he never gets pushed back at that weight.

That is disturbing. It shows that Jarvis doesn't get it at all. This guy thinks he's doing a great job out there and apparently he doesn't have to add weight like the coaches have told him. He knows best.

Shazier is a rookie so i'm not worried yet. I still think he was the right pick over Mosely, who i view as a limited player. I don't think Mosely is much better than Vince Williams. Shazier is a special athlete and was worth the pick. I'd still draft Shazier over Mosely today. Actually, today i would have sent the 3rd rounder to somebody to move ahead of Chicago and draft Fuller.

This is why they should bring Deebo back for another year if he wants to play.
